Services will be in Dubuque, Iowa. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Erickson was born in Marquette, Iowa, to Clifford Hanover Erickson and Edith McCain Erickson, was raised in Dubuque and served in the Navy during World War II. He married Dorothy Maxine Schwartz in May 1945, and they returned to Dubuque. He attended Grandview United Methodist Church and enjoyed numerous aspects of life including bowling, fishing, baseball, country life, working on the farm, camping, raising horses, reunions with veterans he served with, traveling, people and golf. He had worked with John Deere assembling tractors for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Mary Elizabeth Backes Erickson; and two grandsons, James Hall Jr. and Steven Hall. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Kay Hall and husband, James, of Amarillo; a son, Michael Lee Erickson of Dubuque; a brother, John "Jack" Erickson of Dubuque; a stepbrother, Lenord Backes of Deerfield, Fla.; three grandchildren, Terrie and Annette, both of Amarillo, and Sarah of Minnesota; and five great-grandchildren, Nicole, Danny Ray Jr., Connor, Abigail and Caleb. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home in Dubuque. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Andrew Knight James Andrew Knight, 94, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 22, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church Chapel with Jeff Raines, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Knight of Amarillo died June 22. Mr. Knight was born in Dallas, the son of William Buford Knight and Ella Minta Thurmond Knight. He was the great- grandson of Obadiah Knight, an early settler of Dallas. At the age of 8, his family moved to Newark, where he grew up. He graduated from Denton High School, then Draughons Business College before coming to Amarillo in 1930. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. until he entered the Navy to serve in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He served on the destroyer escort Ulvert M. Moore No. 442, under the command of Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. James married Dorothye Kilcrease in 1940. When he came home to Amarillo after the war, he studied accounting and had his own practice until retiring in 1981. He was saved at the age of 13 and served his Lord as long as he was physically able. He was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and song leader. He loved his Lord, his family and his country. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel; a brother, William B. Knight; and a sister, Alice Knight. Survivors include his wife of 65 years; a daughter, Ella Jane Tracy and husband, Lynn, of Amarillo; a son, J. Stanley Knight and wife, Elizabeth, of Dallas; a sister, Mary Tyrrell of Houston; a grandson, Andrew R. Knight and wife, Cynthia, of Mesquite; a granddaughter, Beth Houston and husband, Richard, of Houston; and three great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to City Church, 205 Polk St., Amarillo, TX 79101. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gladyes Martin Gladyes Martin, 73, of Amarillo died Tuesday, June 21, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Martin was born in Coolidge, Ariz., and lived in Amarillo most of her life. She was a homemaker. She loved her family and was proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Baptist. Survivors include four sons, Steve Alvie Martin and Billey Wayne Martin, both of Amarillo, Bryan Martin of Arlington and Carl Wade Martin of California; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area William L. "Bill" Davis Jr. HEREFORD - William L. "Bill" Davis Jr., 80, died Thursday, June 23, 2005. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in West Park Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Shultz officiating. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Davis was born March 22, 1925, in Howe, the son of Gwen and William Davis Sr. He moved to Hereford in 1930 and graduated from Hereford High School in 1942. Bill graduated from Texas A&M College in 1946 with a degree in agricultural economics. On April 6, 1946, Bill married Ada Lou Pearce in Bryan and returned to Hereford to work with his father at Davis Implement Co. Bill retired from Davis Implement Co. after 40 years of service. Mr. Davis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hereford, where he served on the official board and was the treasurer of the board of trustees. Bill was a past president of the Hereford Camp Fire Board, the treasurer of the Hereford Christmas Stocking Fund, a member of the Texas A&M Century Club, a Hereford city commissioner, a member of the Hereford Rotary Club, a member of the Hereford Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 849, a member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Hereford Oasis Shrine Club and a member of the Khiva Shriners. Mr. Davis also served on the Kings Manor Methodist Retirement Home Founders board of directors and on the board of directors of the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame. Bill served on the board of directors of the Hereford Country Club, was an avid golfer and helped start the Hereford Golf Course. Bill was also an umpire for the Hereford Little League for many years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Edith Davis Goodman and husband, Steve, of Kansas City, Mo., and Julia Laing and husband, Randy, of Hereford; a grandson, Seth Davis Laing of Lubbock; a stepgrandson, Brian Laing of College Station; a stepgranddaughter, Jill Rains of Hereford; and a stepgreat- granddaughter, Hallie Rains of Hereford. Mrs. Deel was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Pirtle, Okla., to M.A. and Rosie Belle Mooneyham Pirtle. She married Gaines Alvin Deel on June 30, 1930, in Durant, Okla. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Payne and Dorothy Deel, both of Quanah; a son, Richard Deel of Pecos; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Jones CHILDRESS - Fred S. Jones, 81, died Friday, June 24, 2005. Private memorial services will be held Monday. Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born March 4, 1924. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; and two brothers. Survivors include a son, Randy Jones and wife, Sharon, of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- O.L. "Monk" Bowerman WHEELER - O.L. "Monk" Bowerman, 91, died Thursday, June 23, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery with Dr. Shawn Johnson, minister of Wheeler Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Bowerman was born July 28, 1913, to David Edward Bowerman and Pearl Ruth Bowerman in Nocona in Montague County. Mr. Bowerman, his mother and two brothers moved to Wheeler in 1922. He married Norma Aline Harris in 1933. He worked as a mechanic for Ware Chevrolet for 20 years. Mr. Bowerman was a member of Wheeler Masonic Lodge No. 1099 A.F. & A.M. and had received the 50- year pin. He had been a member of Wheeler Church of Christ since 1933. He was preceded in death by a son, Denny Bowerman in 1994. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dale Bowerman of Austin and David Bowerman of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Betty Wainright of Pampa; and 10 grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Samantha Paulette Alvarez GUYMON, OKLA. - Samantha Paulette Alvarez, 15, died Thursday, June 23, 2005, north of Liberal, Kan. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Samantha attended the Guymon school system and had just completed ninth grade. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Survivors include her parents, Diana and Felipe Martinez of Guymon; three brothers, Christopher Lambert of Guymon and Justin Lambert and Mason Lambert, both of Liberal; two sisters, Vanessa Lambert and Jessica Lambert, both of Liberal; and her grandparents, Miguel and Rosa Aguilar of Amarillo, Texas, and Ruben and Giscla Martinez of Chihuahua, Mexico.
