Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Second Baptist Church with Dana Moore, pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Born July 27, 1956, in Amarillo, Mrs. Groomer spent most of her life in Amarillo. After graduating from Palo Duro High School in 1974, Groomer worked for the Amarillo Globe-News and was active in the Republican Party. In 1987, she won the first of four elections to the office of Potter County district clerk, where she served through December 2000. She made significant contributions to the County and District Clerks' Association of Texas, where she served in many offices and was voted outstanding District Clerk of Texas in 1993. She also accepted numerous positions on statewide committees and task forces for the Texas Attorney General, the Texas Supreme Court and the Texas State Legislature. She was a Founding Team Member, University of Texas School of Law, CLE, Seminar for Clerks and was a member of the National Association of Court Managers. Groomer earned her associate of science degree in criminal justice, Amarillo College; her bachelor of science degree in liberal studies, Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y.; and in 1998, became a Graduate Fellow of the Institute for Court Management of the National Center for State Courts, Willamsburg, Va. Survivors include her husband, Richard Warner; her parents, Leroy and Doris Carroll of Amarillo; a brother, Guy Carroll and wife, Sherri, of Amarillo; a sister, Sally Mitchell and husband, Gary, of Panhandle; a daughter, Jessica Groomer of Lubbock; a son, Jon Wayne Groomer and wife, Torie, of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Macie Groomer. The family suggests memorials be to the Cindy Groomer Scholarship Fund, West Texas A&M University Foundation, WTAMU Box 60766, Canyon, TX 79016. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alvin Dayle Tipton Sr. Alvin Dayle Tipton Sr., 77, of Amarillo died Friday, July 1, 2005. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Southwest Church of Christ with Dayle Tipton Jr. and Russell Bailey officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Tipton, 77, of Amarillo died Friday, July 1, with his family at his bedside. Mr. Tipton was born April 18, 1928, to Claude and Leona Hoover Tipton in Grandfield, Okla. He attended schools in Grandfield and Westview, Okla., and in Dodson. In December 1945, he joined the Navy and was stationed on Guam. He was called back into service in September 1950 for the Korean War and was assigned to a minesweeper. After discharge, he began farming in Childress County. On June 11, 1949, he married Jimmie Wynn. In 1957, Mr. Tipton sustained severe injuries in a farming accident near Levelland. Despite the permanent limitations, Mr. Tipton exceeded doctors' expectations for recovery by his strong will, determination and work ethic. The family moved to Amarillo in January 1960, where Mr. Tipton worked for the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation for 27 years. He will be remembered as a hard worker who loved his family and friends and served his fellow man. In 1961, Mr. Tipton confessed his faith in Jesus and was baptized for the remission of his sins. He was a member of Church of Christ. The family wishes to especially thank the staff of the VA Nursing Home and hospital for their excellent care of Mr. Tipton over the last three years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cathy Bailey and husband, Russell, of Amarillo; a son, Dayle Tipton Jr. and wife, Joe Ellen, of Amarillo; two sisters, Peggy Riedel and husband, Glenn, of Burleson and Nancy Robinson and husband, Dan, of Mead, Okla.; an uncle, Sam Hoover and wife, Chris, of Marble Falls; an aunt, Mildred Kerr of Temple, Okla.; five grandchildren, Claire Bailey, Reid Bailey, Sam Tipton, Joe Tipton and Austin Tipton all of Amarillo; three nephews; two nieces; and in-laws whom he loved and respected. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Galilee Church of God in Christ with the Rev. John Bowser officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Lamar was born and raised in Amarillo. He attended Horace Mann Middle School and played on the City Championship Football Team. He loved riding his bike and spending time with his dog, Coco. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Henrietta Jones; his grandfathers, George Phillips and Tenza Jones; and a brother, Gregory. Survivors include his parents, Mitchell and Sandy Jones and his mother, Tabitha Baker, all of Amarillo; five brothers, Mitch, Anthony and DeQuaius "DQ", all of Amarillo, Cornilieus of Rotan and Marcus of El Paso; nine sisters, Tiara, Erica, Monisha, Ashley, Kindra and Jamise, all of Amarillo, Monacia of Denver City, Miesha of Houston and Ebony Mitchell of San Bernadino, Calif.; his grandparents, Mary Phillips and Kay Burnett, both of Amarillo, and Lloyd and Donna Burnett of Burleson; and lots of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Claude Joe Pate Claude Joe Pate, 84, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 29, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with the Rev. Robert Field, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum. Mr. Pate married Leetece Downs in 1969. He served in the Army during World War II and also served in the National Guard. He was a longtime employee of First National Bank. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Amarillo No. 731 and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Survivors include his wife; a nephew, Jerral Downs of Joplin Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Etna Thompson of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Angie Riley BOVINA - Angie Riley, 35, died Friday, July 1, 2005, in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Aaron Reed, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Ms. Riley was a lifetime resident of Bovina. She was born Dec. 29, 1969, to R.B. and Cathy Sikes Riley in Clovis, N.M. She worked as a caretaker in the home health industry. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bovina and was a volunteer on the Bovina EMS for many years. Survivors include her parents of Bovina; a son, Dusty Riley of Bovina; her grandmother, Barbarette Sikes of Bovina; two sisters, Casey Prather of Mount Pleasant and Penny Dutton of Bovina; a brother, Scotty Riley of Bovina; and a grandson, Andrew Scott DeLaCruz. The family suggests memorials be to the Bovina EMS. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shawn O'Neal PANHANDLE - Shawn O'Neal, 57, died Thursday, June 30, 2005. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Panhandle with the Rev. Mike Martin, pastor of First Baptist Church in Morse, officiating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Mr. O'Neal was born March 26, 1948, in Borger, and had been a lifetime resident of Panhandle. He was a farmer/rancher and served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of First Christian Church in Panhandle and was a graduate of Texas Christian University in the ranch management program. He raised Black Angus cattle and enjoyed music and art. He married Susan Garcia on Aug. 9, 1981, in Panhandle. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deborah Ann O'Neal, and his father, Harold V. O'Neal. Survivors include his wife, Susan; a son, Chad O'Neal and wife, Carrie, of Plano; a daughter, Elizabeth Kate O'Neal of Panhandle; his mother, Norma O'Neal of Amarillo; three sisters, Sharon Loerwald and husband, Jeff, and Mary Mjolhus and husband, Knut, all of Amarillo, and Patrice Shadid and husband, Tick, of Panhandle; and a grandson, Stephen Robert O'Neal of Plano. Casket bearers will be Jerry Biggs, Gary Beddingfield, Kim McAskill, Jeff Loerwald, Dan Gray and John Paul Dauer. Honorary casket bearers will be J.M. Poling, Jack Martin, Bill Gray and Steve Sherrill. The family suggests memorials be to the Amarillo Symphony Youth Orchestra or a favorite charity. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- George Arthur Philpott MIAMI - George Arthur Philpott, 97, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in Pampa. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Miami with the Rev. Lance Wood, pastor, officiating. Mr. Philpott was born Sept. 6, 1907, in Gray County. He was a 1927 graduate of Miami High School. He married Reba Johnson on Dec. 22, 1929, and she preceded him in death. He was a farmer in the Miami and Pampa areas. He was a co- partner in Philpott Farm Equipment and Philpott Elevators. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the building committee. He was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts in Miami. Survivors include a son, Dr. Bill Philpott and wife, Loralee, of Miami; a brother: Kint Philpott and wife, Helen, of Pampa; two grandchildren, Charles Arthur Philpott and wife, Joann, of Houston and Pamela Philpott Human and husband, David, of Richmond, Va.; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren Philpott, Henry Philpott, Juliet Philpott, Travis Human, Mitchell Human and Anna Blair Human. Since flowers and memorials were sent after Mr. Philpott's death, the family respectfully requests that no more flowers or memorials be sent. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Earl Simpson Jr. TULIA - John Earl Simpson Jr., 82, died Friday, July 1, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Simpson went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1. Mr. Simpson was born July 26, 1922, to John Earl Simpson Sr. and Lottie Mae Simpson in Silverton. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1940. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a 50-year member of the Silverton Lodge 754, a 32nd degree Mason and Scottish Rite Shriner. Mr. Simpson owned and operated the Chevrolet Dealership in Silverton and Tulia for 24 years. His many accomplishments include area director of Texas Automobile Dealers Association, city councilman in Silverton, on the board of United Supply in Lubbock, Tulia School Board, First State Bank, Tulia Chamber of Commerce, Tulia Industrial Foundation, manager of Tulia Wheat Growers and manager of Mackenzie Municipal Water Authority. He farmed and ranched in Briscoe and Swisher counties for many years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Samantha Simpson Powell Allison in 2004. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Voncille Atchley Simpson; two daughters, Celia Simpson-Bragg of San Angelo and Olivia Adamson and husband, Keith, of San Antonio; a son, John Earl Simpson III and wife, Nita, of Tulia; a sister, Eddie Graham of Arlington; and eight grandchildren. Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born June 7, 1930, in Bessemer, Ala., to James C. Jones Sr. and Nelle Walton Miles Jones. He married Hazel Glick on July 15, 1955, in Carlsbad, N.M. He had lived in Friona since February 1986, moving from Roswell. He was retired from the New Mexico Highway Department. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Clay Jones on Oct. 5, 2002. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Katherine Lynn Graham and husband, Wesley, of Clovis; a daughter-in-law, Donice Jones of Friona; a sister, Anne S. Parfet of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren. Mr. McGregor was born March 22, 1931, to Thomas Bernard McGregor and Viola Garrett McGregor in Long Beach, Calif. He married Kathy Gwaltney on July 14, 1957, at Cannon AFB. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jay McGregor of Dallas and Shane McGregor of Clovis; his mother of Clovis; two brothers, Doug McGregor of Clovis and Marshall McGregor of Grass Valley, Calif.; and a grandson.
