Amarillo Globe-News http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ============================================================== Amarillo Globe-News Obituaries Wednesday, July 13, 2005 Amarillo Anna Chavez Lopez Anna Chavez Lopez, 93, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 10, 2005. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Lopez, widow of J.R. Lopez and lifetime resident of Amarillo, died late Sunday evening. J.R. preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2002. Anna was born Oct. 25, 1912, to Don Benito and Carlotta Chavez. After receiving her formal education and graduating from Amarillo High School, she began a courtship with a charismatic gentleman who would later propose and take her as an equal life partner. J.R. and Anna married May 24, 1933, in Canyon, and quickly began building a home and starting a family. Anna dedicated her entire life to God and her family. The most important objective in her life was creating happiness for her family. After raising four children of her own, her duties as a mother were not over. She voluntarily took in her first set of grandchildren, Mikall and Sherri, and helped raise them. Later she would take on the challenge of taking in three more grandchildren, Teresa, Paula and Spinner, and raising them after the untimely death of their mother. Anna loved having her home filled with the joyful laughter of children young and old. She created a home out of nothing into a showplace of love and happiness. Together with her husband, J.R., they inspired and molded their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren into compassionate and giving individuals, offering encouragement to reach out for the attainable and the seemingly impossible goals in life. Anna was an active volunteer and lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the oldest alumni of the Catholic Parochial School. After living nearly a century, she witnessed constant changes around her. From the paving of the dirt road in front of her home to a man walking on the moon, the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, women gaining the right to vote, the bicentennial of America and the emergence of all kinds of new technologies, she held steadfast to her faith and beliefs, and indoctrinated those high morals and standards onto her family. Anna always practiced the definitive definition of unconditional love, freely giving hugs and kisses or a subtle smile to everyone she knew and even beyond to total strangers in need. Her warm beautiful smile, trademark loving winks and zeal for life will be greatly missed by all, but forever in our hearts as she joins her late husband, J.R., in heaven where they will begin anew, building a showplace of love and happiness for their families to join them. The family wishes to expressly thank the staff of BSA Hospice, most notably Olivia and Alma for their excellent care of Grammy in the last few months of her life.
