Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Kay went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 15, just one day after her 59th birthday. Kay LaVonne Lyons (1946-2005) was a creative artist, a faithful friend, a restaurant operator, an institutional dietitian, a member at Trinity Baptist Church, a quick wit, loved to redo the inside of her home, loved to cook and was a wonderful sister and daughter.She was a role model from childhood for how to fight multiple diseases inone's ownbody without complaining. She graduated from Tascosa High School, across the street from the church her father, Howard Lyons,pastored in the early 1960's.She attended Wayland Baptist University. She was preceded in death by her father and virtually all of her mother's family, Martha Gordon Lyons. Survivors include her mother, Martha Lyons; a brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Charlotte Lyons; and a nephew, Charles Howard Lyons, all of San Antonio. There are numerous Oklahoma aunts, uncles andcousins ontheLyons sideof the family.Shewas blessed and survived also by four faithful friends who were her caregivers in the last 10-15 years.These friends are Marsha Bunn (adopted sister), Susan Hinrichs, BonnieKarnitzand Geraldine Owens. Mr. Pena was born in Dumas and graduated from Dumas High School. He retired from Phillips Petroleum in 1991. He was on the board of directors for Friends Helping Friends (Amarillo Area Incorporated). Survivors include his mother, Alicia Pena and father, Felix Pena Sr., of Dumas; a sister, Rosemary Herrera of Orange; a brother, Ruben Pena of Orange; three daughters, Rachel Rooney and husband, Brian, Angela Romero and husband, Isidro, and Caressa Pena, all of Amarillo; and three granddaughters, Tiffany Rooney, Brittany Rooney and Bethany Rodriquez, all of Amarillo. Noel Ferguson C. Noel Ferguson, 83, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 16, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Chester O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Ferguson was born June 2, 1922, in Aubrey. He graduated high school there and began at North Texas University until being called to service. Mr. Ferguson served in the Army from 1942 to 1946. He graduated from North Texas University in 1948 and began to work for Employers Insurance of Texas, from which he retired after 38 years. He married Mildred Thompson in 1949. Survivors include his wife; a son, Curtis; a daughter, Susanne; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lila Irene Sewell Lila Irene Sewell, 75, of Amarillo died Saturday, July 16, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Coy Wylie of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Sewell was born May 31, 1930, in Walnut Springs. On Nov. 13, 1948, she married James R. Sewell in Glen Rose. She moved to Amarillo in 1964. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and taking care of her family. She loved being "Mom" and "Grandmother" more than anything else. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Michael and Lonnie Sewell; and a grandson, Christopher Sewell. Survivors include a son, Richard Sewell of Amarillo; three daughters, Yvonnede Curtis of Liberty and Michelle Stickrod and Carla McDaniels, both of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Bass DALHART - Opal H. Bass, 88, died Saturday, July 16, 2005. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dalhart Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Clifford Dane, minister to senior adults of First Baptist Church of Dalhart, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Bass was born Oct. 7, 1916, in Belveder, Kan., to Nellie Bly Van Noss Hoeffliger and John Mikel Hoeffliger. While still a young girl, her family moved to the Texas Panhandle and lived in the Perico area. She met her future husband, James Lollie Bass Sr. while she was attending school in Perico. She and Lollie were married in Clayton, N.M., in 1931, and they continued to live in the Perico area. They had only one child, a son, J.L. Bass Jr. Her family moved to Dalhart in 1939, where she continued to live until Aug. 26, 2003, when Opal fell and broke her hip. She was transferred to Amarillo for surgery and was then in rehab and assisted living at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home in Amarillo. At the end of March 2003, she moved into Cooper Villa, an assisted living community in Arlington. Opal was called home July 16. Opal was a member of "The Greatest Generation," living through the Great Depression and World War II. She had a good spirit and a genuine love for people and life. She found great joy being close to her grandchildren as they were growing up. She was preceded in death by her father; her mother; four sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include a brother, Roy John Hoeffliger, who is a resident of Coon Memorial Home in Dalhart; a son, J.L. Bass Jr. of Arlington; three grandchildren, Stewart Bass of Haltom City, Brenda Wiemann and husband, Keith, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Sherman Bass and wife, Patricia, of Amarillo; and four great-grandsons, Taylor and Trevor Wiemann and Brandon and James Sherman Bass. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gerald Reinhardt KRESS - Gerald Reinhardt, 62, died Friday, July 15, 2005. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Reynolds, pastor, officiating and Jay Simpson, chaplain of Area Community Hospice, assisting. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Reinhardt was born Nov. 21, 1942, in Bristow, Okla. He married Jean Purdy on July 23, 1965, in Kress. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Pamela Quintanilla of Arlington, Angela Stanford of Amarillo and Carla Reinhardt of Kress; two brothers, Charles Reinhardt of Montgomery and Ronald Reinhardt of Humble; two sisters, Thelma Damron and Kay Simpson, both of Tulia; six grandchildren; and a great- grandchild. Burnett PORTALES, N.M. - Edna E. Burnett, 103, died Thursday, July 14, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Huber officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mrs. Burnett was born April 9, 1902, in Waco, Texas, to Charles and Mary Belle Wortham. She married Arther Edward Burnett on May 5, 1928, in Portales, where they made their home. Survivors include three daughters, Jessie Whitehead of Grady, Wanda Hendrix of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Vera Thompson of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two sons, Alton Burnett of Sun Down, Texas, and LeRoy Burnett of Rock Springs, Wyo.; two brothers, Ralph Wortham of Andrews, Texas, and Hugh Wortham of California; 29 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and 46 great-great-grandchildren. "Bill" Dodd, 82, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, in Clovis. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Melrose Church of Christ. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis. Mr. Dodd was born July 30, 1922, in Crowell County, Texas, to R.E. and Helen May Dodd. He married Mary Doyle on Dec. 13, 1941, in Portales. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lyndal Fahrlender of Clovis; two sons, Deon Dodd and Dennis Dodd, both of Melrose; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Dr. William Franklin Hudson BUFFALO, OKLA. - Dr. William Franklin Hudson, 75, died Saturday, July 16, 2005. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery by Myatt Funeral Home. Dr. Hudson was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Duncan. He married Betty Jean Shimanek on Aug. 28, 1952, in Oklahoma City. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Foster Hudson and Neil Hudson, both of Buffalo, and Scott Hudson of Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Paula Lauer and Heidi Ragen, both of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
