"Terri" Shuman Ora M. "Terri" Shuman, 78, of Amarillo died Wednesday, July 20, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in the former San Jacinto United Methodist Church at Sixth Avenue and Tennessee Street with the Rev. Steve Gains and the Rev. Don Travis officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Shuman was born June 10, 1927, in Argonia, Summner County, Kan., to Evelyn and Franklin Crites. She married J. Walter Carter on Jan. 22, 1948. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1961. She married Walter Shuman Nov. 1, 1962, in Amarillo. Her friends knew her to be a devoted mother and wife who loved her church, flower garden, crafts and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. The family would like to thank the Amarillo firemen at station No. 5 and the Amarillo Medical Services for their fast response. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Marsha Mauldin and husband, Bill, of Fort Smith, Ark., and Mrs. Claudette Bagot and husband, Dick, of Amarillo; a son, Bruce Carter of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mrs. Hayes was born in Princeton. She graduated from East Texas Teachers College. She married Robert E. Hayes in Greenville on Sept. 7, 1938. She was a homemaker, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was a dearly loved wife, mother and grandmother who never complained. The family expresses great thanks to Mrs. Hayes' caregivers at Ware Memorial Care Center. Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert S. Hughes St. Mr. Mason was born in Altus, Okla. He attended school in Amarillo and graduated from Carver High School in 1957. He was employed with North American Van Lines for 20 years. Survivors include a son, Darrell Mason of Beeville; his wife, Nettie; his mother, Velma Mason of Amarillo; a brother, Jimmy Mason of Livingston; four sisters, Myrl Betts, Pam Russell, Jo Ann Mason and Jaque Monroe, all of Amarillo; and two stepdaughters, Sandra Samuel and Loretta Flournoy, both of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ethel L. Hearn Ethel L. Hearn, 79, of Amarillo died Tuesday, July 19, 2005. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery with Robert Field, pastor, officiating. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Hearn was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Bakersfield, Calif. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Hearn Sr. in 1980; and her mother, Emma Heck in 1978. Survivors include three daughters, Lynn Bruffy and husband, Carl, and Nancy Lee Coursey, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Vicki Blankenship and husband, Don, of Amarillo; two sons, James L. Arrangements are by Blackburn- Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Dickson, a longtime resident of Amarillo, went to be with the Lord on Saturday. She was born Oct. 10, 1915, in the township of Wayne, Pa. She was an artist of many talents and was a member of Borger Arts Club while living in Borger. She will be missed by all her family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Dickson; and a son, Richard D. Dickson. Espy and Ky'Asia Adrieouna Thomas Tu'Kedreonua "T.K." Espy, 15, and her infant daughter, Ky'Asia Adrieouna Thomas, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 17, 2005. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Horton was born Feb. 10, 1949, in Perryton. She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7782 in Clarendon. She was also the District 9 and auxiliary chairperson for the National Home for Children which she loved doing. In fact, she continued to worry about who would take over her job until the end. She loved to garden, knit and sew and feed the birds. Survivors include her companion, Dale Powers of Clarendon; a son, Billy Powers and wife, Tammy, of Amarillo; a daughter, Vicki Sonley of San Antonio; an aunt, Thelma Longhofer of Booker; a sister, Nancy Cook of Stratford; a nephew, Preston Hemphill of Pawhuska, Okla.; two nieces, Vicki Cross of St. James, Mo., and Rebecca Hemphill of Stratford; and 11 grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in 10th Avenue United Methodist Church in Amarillo with the Rev. Tommy Ewing and the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Burial will be in Wildorado Cemetery in Wildorado by Cox Funeral Home of Amarillo, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Wagner was born and raised in Amarillo and was a 1957 graduate of Amarillo High School. He married Elwanda Gresham on Feb. 14, 1960, in Amarillo. He farmed and ranched in Bushland for more than 50 years. He was a member of 10th Avenue United Methodist Church. He loved cattle, fishing and being "Papa" to his family. Most of all he loved his Lord. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary Ray Wagner, Kenneth Don Wagner and wife, Pam, and Gaylon Duane Wagner, all of Bushland; a daughter, Karen Sue Brogdon and husband, Don, of Bushland; three brothers, Glen Wagner and Lee Wagner, both of Vega, and Lyndon Wagner of Bushland; 13 grandchildren, Chancey Hutchens, Courtney Brogdon, Kelsey Brogdon, Kinsey Brogdon, Keeley Brogdon, Chris Wagner, Christina Wagner, Dahlton Wagner, Triston Wagner, Ethan Wagner, Mercedez Wagner, Amber Allen and husband, Andy, and Shan Bell; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton Duck, Addisen Allen and Aubrey Allen. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manuel "Speedy" Fuentes DALHART - Manuel "Speedy" Fuentes, 73, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Rodney Weatherly, pastor, and Robert Ledbetter, minister of education for the church, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Fuentes was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Stratford to Lupe and Teresa Barragon Fuentes. He graduated from Dalhart High School and attended Amarillo Community College and West Texas University. He served his country and was honorably discharged. Manuel married Frances Rojas in 1967. Manuel was plant manager for the city of Dalhart. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Dalhart Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; a son, Ralph Fuentes and wife, Shirley, of Amarillo; two sisters, Alice Fuentes of Dalhart and Angel Fuentes of Chicago; a granddaughter, Stormie Fuentes of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gustin was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Lone Wolf, Okla., to Oval and Mary Orr Pinner. She and her family came to Dalhart in 1927. Patricia graduated from Dalhart High School. She married Cleveland "Kelley" Gustin on July 24, 1947, in Dalhart. Patricia was an active member of Dalhart Rebekah Lodge No. 365 where she had served in every office. A charter member of Lincoln Street Baptist Church, Patricia was a Sunday school teacher and a Cub Scout Leader. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Karl Gustin; a sister, Billie Smith; and a brother, Clarence Pinner. Survivors include three sons, James L. Mr. Speer was born in Viola, Kan., on Nov. 8, 1929. He married Geraldine FitzGerald Speer on May 3, 1953, in Clearwater, Kan. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Johanna Speer Milam of Dalhart; two sons, Wayne Speer of Dalhart, Texas, and Roy Speer of Sedan; a brother, Fred Speer of Clearwater; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Amistad United Methodist Church or New Beginnings Christian Retreat in Channing, Texas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Rosa Cash Cowart FREDERICKSBURG - Rosa Cash Cowart, 88, formerly of Canyon, died Monday, July 18, 2005, in Provo, Utah. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon with the Rev. Dr. Don McDonald officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mrs. Cowart was born in Dimmitt, Castro County, to Harvey James Baughn and Hester Bell Cash. The family moved to Canyon where he was city clerk. Rosa attended Canyon public schools, however, due to illness she graduated from Sherman High School. She received her BS in chemistry and MS in speech therapy from West Texas State. She and her family were active in First Presbyterian Church of Canyon, Rosa serving in many local church positions and held various state and national Presbyterian Women's offices. In 1940, Rosa married O.P. "Pete" Cowart of Silverton. They lived in Hereford and Canyon, except for the war years, until 1969 when they moved to Riverside, Calif., where Rosa was employed as a speech therapist, the position from which she eventually retired. In 1996, she moved to Grace Presbyterian Village in Dallas, where she resided until 2002, then moving to Fredericksburg to be near her oldest daughter. In June 2005, she moved to Provo, home of her second daughter. Rosa and Pete were instrumental in the creation and production of "TEXAS" in Palo Duro Canyon, where the family lived and Pete was a park ranger for many years. She co-wrote "Thundering Sound of the West," the fund-raising forerunner of "TEXAS." The entire family was involved in the first season of "TEXAS," filling acting roles, production needs, hospitality and technical elements. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and siblings; two grandsons, Flint Forest Hamman and Andrew Lyon Crisler; and a granddaughter, Cacey Hamman. Survivors include two daughters, Lilian Hamman and husband, W.F., of Fredericksburg and Lou Ann Crisler and husband, Jesse, of Provo; a son, Jim Cash Cowart and wife, Janet Bergman Cowart, of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; six grandsons, Buckley and Peter Hamman, Loren (Tomoko Uemori), Lance (YiShan Chen), Lyman Crisler and Jefferson Cowart; and five granddaughters, Verna and Hester Hamman, Lilian and Matt Maughan, Linsey and Kenny Jackman and Lane Crisler.
