Birkenfeld TULIA - Herman J. Birkenfeld, 81, died Thursday, July 21, 2005. A scripture service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery by Kornerstorne Funeral Directors. Mr. Birkenfeld was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Nazareth to Joe and Blanche (Wagner) Birkenfeld. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1941. He served in the Navy from December 1943 to April 1946. He married Marilyn Hoelting on Feb. 14, 1950, in Nazareth and farmed and ranched in that area as well as Union and San Miguel Counties in New Mexico. He operated Birkenfeld Trucks, a livestock transportation business, and played fiddle in the Melody Six band. He served on the board of directors of Happy State Bank for 14 years. He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he was a eucharistic minister and a member of the church choir. He was a member of American Legion and Lions Club and was an honorary member of Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Harry, and three other brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Darlene Schulte of Nazareth, Karen Peddy and Gail Hooks, both of Canyon, and Shana Hutchins of College Station; eight sons, Kent of Canyon, Keith, Bob, Clyde, Darryl, Greg and Alan, all of Nazareth, and Joel of San Antonio; a brother, Jerome of Nazareth; two sisters, Velma Warren of Hereford and Rita Woetovech of Nazareth; 21 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Holy Family Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 100, Nazareth, TX 79063; or Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106. Graveside services were in Plainview Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Simpson officiating. Arrangements were by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Freeman was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Plainview. He was a mechanic. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Freeman of Plainview; and three sons, Clifton and Cecil Freeman, both of Plainview, and Curtis Freeman of Fort Stockton; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- H.M. "Red" Riddle DODSON - H.M. "Red" Riddle, 76, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church in Hollis, Okla., with the Rev. Al Mixon officiating. Burial will be in Dodson Cemetery by Stewart Funeral Service. Mr. Riddle was born Nov. 6, 1928, in Plainview. Red married Ida Fay Ward on Nov. 6, 1949, his 21st birthday, in Van Nuys, Calif. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jim of Aguora, Calif., Jerry of Tampa, Fla., and Jeff of Simi Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Jennifer Riddle of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Billie Nelson of Boardman, Idaho. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harry Dana "H.D." Rose Jr. FRITCH - Harry Dana "H.D." Rose Jr., 74, died Thursday, July 21, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Celebration of Family Church with the Rev. Blake Westbrook officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Rose was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Smith County. He married Wilma Rhodes on March 31, 1951, in Childress. Survivors include his wife; a son, Markle Rose of Hutchinson County; a daughter, Marilyn Green of Amarillo; three sisters, Tressie Laycock of Madison, Miss., Mitty McAlister of Childress and Betty Taber of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were at 1 p.m. Friday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel in Clovis, N.M., with the Rev. Scott Spitsberg officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell. Mrs. Ford married Uvon Darris Ford on April 26, 1940, in Norton. She was a member of Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell. Survivors include a grandson, Kerry Ford of Lubbock; a granddaughter, Darrisa Tunnell of Lubbock; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. The family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Mexico CHARLES ARTHUR REESE CLOVIS, N.M. - Charles Arthur Reese, 71, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in The Chapel with the Rev. R.L. Smith officiating. Burial will be in MIssion Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Reese was born Oct. 14, 1933, in Longview, Texas. He married Marie Huey on Nov. 26, 1955, in Las Vegas.
