Hannigan David R. Hannigan, 62, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005. A public Irish wake will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Valley Inn in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Hannigan was born to George Allen Hannigan and Lela Madge Foree Hannigan in Grand Junction, Colo. He was raised in Grand Junction and graduated from high school there. He served in the Army from 1961 until 1965 and served in Vietnam. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1970 and worked for the Valley Caf for more than 13 years. He has worked for Valley Inn for the past three years. Survivors include a sister, Derrelie Cates of Amarillo; a brother, Larry Hannigan and wife, Cindy, of Port Isabel; various nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Mrs. Jean Cox of Reno, Nev. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Louis G. Warren Louis G. Warren, 58, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in River Road Fellowship with Faye Roberts of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mr. Warren moved to Amarillo 36 years ago from Lubbock. He married Shirley Houston on April 25, 1969. He was a truck driver for PBX McGee. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jamie Warren and husband, Cody Alexander, of Amarillo; a son, Cory Warren and wife, Tina, of Amarillo; a sister, Dee Stallings of Alice; two brothers, George Warren of Lubbock and Fred Moore of Corpus Christi; and four grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the Louis Warren Memorial Fund at River Road Fellowship Church, 503 E. Willow Creek, Amarillo, TX 79108. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alice Novotny Alice Novotny, 88, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005. Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Tash officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mrs. Novotny was born Dec. 28, 1916, to Albert and Ida Spaeth. She married Arthur Novotny on April 19, 1941. Mrs. Novotny and her husband were Green Bay Packer season ticket holders since 1958 and were great fans of the team. She moved to Amarillo from Random Lake, Wis., in 1987, where she was a librarian. She was active in Senior Bowling League and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, card playing, gardening and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 25, 1997; a daughter, Diane Novotny in 1948; and two brothers, Raymond and Joseph Spaeth. Survivors include a son, Thomas Novotny and wife, Jeanne, of Amarillo; a daughter, Arliss Johnson and husband, Keith, of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Harrington Cancer Center; or ASPCA. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Frank Heflin Robert Frank Heflin, 83, of Amarillo died Thursday, July 28, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Smith, senior pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Heflin was born May 29, 1922, in Danville, Ala. After graduating from high school in 1939, he attended Franklin College in Indiana. In 1942, he interrupted his college education to join the Army Air Corps. After an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Franklin College, receiving his baccalaureate degree in 1948. After working in Tennessee as an investigator for the Civil Service Commission, he attended Peabody College and Vanderbilt University, where he received his master of arts degree in history. During these graduate studies he served in research and teaching fellowships, positions which continued as he completed the work for his doctoral degree at Vanderbilt. In 1957, he accepted a teaching position in the department of history at West Texas A&M University, a position which spanned three decades and continued until his retirement. During his teaching career at WT, he earned the respect both of his colleagues and his students as evidenced by awards in teaching excellence, favorite professor and, upon retirement, professor emeritus of history. He contributed his talents in many ways to the quality of the wider university campus, but most especially by his leadership in organizing a chapter of Phi Delta Theta, a national social fraternity that he had joined as an undergraduate student at Franklin College. He served as faculty advisor to the WT campus chapter until his retirement. Mr. Heflin married Patsy Blair Morris in 1973. She shared his love of travel, especially in the British Isles. Both were active in church activities at St. Stephen United Methodist, serving in many leadership positions until her illness and death. In 2003, he moved to Craig Methodist Retirement Community, where he lived until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife; and a stepson, Kelly Blair Morris. Survivors include a sister, Mary Elizabeth Lockhart and husband, John, of Hartselle, Ala.; two nephews, Tim Lockhart and wife, Anne, of Norfolk, Va., and Drew Lockhart and wife, Leslie, of Huntsville, Ala.; a niece, Abigail Lockhart of Lilburn, Ga.; a stepson, John Miller Morris of Austin; and a stepgranddaughter, Erin Claire Morris of Austin. The family suggests memorials be to the Frank and Patsy Heflin Scholarship Fund at WTAMU in Canyon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Rev. Robert E. Wright The Rev. Robert E. Wright, 57, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 31, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James M. Mims, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. The Rev. Wright was born in El Paso to the late Earl and Rosie Wright. He was a graduate of Carver High School. He earned an associate's degree as a director of childcare. He was the assistant pastor of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. He was faithful to the Sunday school, brotherhood and pastor aide ministries. Survivors include five children, Charles Etta Harris, Antonio Barnes, Simeon Dunn, Johnny Price Jr. and Earl Miles, all of Amarillo; three brothers, J.L. Sinches and Lee Drew, both of Plainview, and Stanley Bolton of Amarillo; and three sisters, Shurlie Horn and Lola Price, both of Amarillo, and Adella Sinches of Pampa. The body will be available for viewing from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be at 2604 Hamner St. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Coy Freeman Winders GRUVER - Coy Freeman Winders, 52, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005. Services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday in Gruver United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Price, pastor, and the Rev. Gary Gumfory, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Henson- Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon, Okla. Mr. Winders, the son of Comfort Holt and Asa Freeman Winders, was born Aug. 26, 1952, in Dumas. The Winders family moved from Channing to Gruver, where Coy graduated from Gruver High School in 1971. Coy had worked on the family farm and has cowboyed since the age of 6. He was a member of Gruver Methodist Church. He was a farmer, truck driver, a cowboy, in the seed cleaning business and a big Gruver Greyhound fan. He loved attending all Gruver ball games and activities. Coy enjoyed cars, especially Corvettes, trucks, boats and dancing. He also enjoyed water and snow skiing. He was preceded in death by his father in 1964. Survivors include his mother of Gruver; a sister, Patricia Bratton and husband, Kenny, of Gruver; a brother, Todd Winders of Gruver; a niece, Katrina Bratton Hughes and husband, John, and their children, Zack and Zane; a nephew, Shawn Brian Bratton and wife, Jennifer, and their children, Chris and Sam; and his aunts and uncles, Virginia Winders Puryear of Allison, and Elizabeth Holt, Coy Miles Holt, Pat Holt and wife, Georgia, and Nick Holt and wife, Trixie, all of Gruver. The family suggests memorials be to a fund at Gruver State Bank, Box 978, Gruver, TX 79040, for the purchase of a defibrillator for the Gruver School Athletic Department; Hansford Manor; or a favorite charity. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. (MST) Saturday in Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell, Texas, with Daniel Chavez, deacon, officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. McKenna was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Baltimore. He married Philamean M. Talbott on May 30, 1947, in Baltimore. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Edward J. McKenna III of Newark, Ill., and Raymond D. McKenna and Steven W. McKenna, both of Clovis; a sister, Margaret Sawyer of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Effie Belle Terrill CLOVIS, N.M. - Effie Belle Terrill, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, in El Paso, Texas. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis with Sam Kelley officiating. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Mrs. Terrill was born July 12, 1914, in Quail, Texas. She married Buster Terrill on Nov. 28, 1935, in Santa Rosa.
