Private graveside services were in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Monsignor Francis Smyer of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Harms was born May 3, 1924, in May, Texas, to Walter and Florene Plummer Harms. He attended and graduated from high school there. Mr. Harms joined the service after high school. After his discharge from the service, he met and married Marianne Gerber they made their home in Amarillo. He worked for the Amarillo Globe-News for 37 years until his retirement. Mr. Harms loved to hunt and fish and was “Mr. Fix-It” to his family and friends. Those who knew him will miss his humor, friendly smil and his cheerful whistle. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cindy Luginbill and husband, Jim, Jeanne Harms-Velarde and husband, Nikki, all of Amarillo, and Lisa Henly and husband, Bill, of Dallas; a son, Wayne Harms of Bellevue, Iowa; two brothers, Mack Harms and wife, Alvana, of Amarillo and Vance Harms and wife, Karen, of Talpa; a sister, Evelyn Buttel and husband, Jerry, of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Cargill was born in Norton, Kan., on Aug. 10, 1953, and lived in Amarillo for the last 20 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Cargill; a stepmother, Maxine Glee Cargill; a stepfather, Edd Reining; a stepsister, Shirley Reining Hinkle; and a stepbrother, Walter Reining. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home’s Chapel of Memories with Chester Beavers officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Mahaffee was born Jan. 4, 1921, in McAlester, Okla., to Jessie and Susan Mahaffee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis, on March 19, 1998. Survivors include a son, Robert and wife, Michelle, of Dumas; two nieces, Rita of Amarillo and Darla of Electra; and three grandchildren, Natalie, Amanda and Kayla. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leitha Lowe Brownlee WELLINGTON - Leitha Lowe Brownlee, 89, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Martin Road Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Hancock and the Rev. Bill Austin officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Martin Road Funeral and Cremation Services, 1505 Martin Road. Mrs. Brownlee graduated from Quail High School. She then received her bachelor of arts degree from West Texas University in Canyon. She taught school, worked for the Globe-News and retired from Amarillo Natural Gas and Pipeline Co. Mrs. Brownlee was an active member of Bykota Baptist Church. She will be especially missed for the programs she organized for the shut-ins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, on Feb. 12, 1979; four sisters and three brothers. Survivors include a sister, Irene Barth of Shamrock; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Doris Elder SHAMROCK - Doris Elder, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Assembly of God Church in Shamrock with the Rev. Z.A. Myers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Elder lived in the Abra Community for more than 30 years, moving to Shamrock in 1994. She was born to Joe and Lizzie Jones Vick in Mount Vernon on Jan. 5, 1922. She married A.N. Elder on Jan. 5, 1940, in Wellington. Mrs. Elder was a homemaker and baby sat children through two generations. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Darrel Elder in 1959; four brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Kathleen Daniel and husband, Don, of Ardmore, Okla.; a brother, Charles Ray Vick of Pampa; two sisters, Hazel Pike of Childress and Dolly Jennings of Andrews; two grandsons, Chris Henley and wife, Kim, of Coppell and Waylon Henley and wife, Crystal, of Ardmore; a great-grandson, Jonathan Tate Henley of Coppell; and several nieces and nephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ray Ethridge DIMMITT - Ray Ethridge, 83, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Hawthorne officiating. Burial will be at noon in the Bailey County Cemetery in Muleshoe by Colonial Funeral Home. Mr. Ethridge was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Belton. In 1943, he met Leta Faye Sexton, and they married on Sept. 29, 1945, in Belton. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Ed of West; six sons, Clarence of Rowlett, Coy of Plainview, Roy of Colorado Springs, Colo., Johnny of Levelland, Jackie of Earth and Darrell of San Angelo; a daughter, Neta Gore of Tulia; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gross moved to Muleshoe from Plainview in 1943. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Muleshoe. Survivors include her husband, Ray Arnold Gross of Amarillo; two sons, James Edward Gross and wife, Carolyn, of Odessa and Joy Loyd Gross and wife, Georgia, of Amarillo; a brother, Fred Long of Olton; a sister, Jackie Hobbs of Pampa; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Avenue J, Muleshoe, TX 79347. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jimmie Warren Wilkinson BORGER - Jimmie Warren Wilkinson, 84, died Thursday, Aug. 4, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Minton Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bill Siemore, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mountain Home Cemetery in Stringtown, Okla. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Wilkinson was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Honey Grove. He was a plumber. Survivors include three sons, Herbert Wilkinson of Baytown, M.E. “Buddy” Wilkinson of Borger and Jimmie Wilkinson of Baytown; a daughter, Margie Jones of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Tom Wilkinson of Borger; a sister, Dolly Poole of Kilgore; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edgar “Edd” Wright CHILDRESS - Edgar “Edd” Wright, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Parkview Baptist Church with Don McFarland, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Wright was born April 17, 1918, in Carbon Hill, Ala., to R.R. and Dania Wright. The Wright family moved to the farm north of Childress in 1931. He served with the 36th Infantry Division, 111th Medical Battalion, Company C, from 1941 to 1945. After returning home from the war he bought the farm north of Childress but moved his family to Amarillo in the 1950s to work for the city of Amarillo and then Asarco. He retired from Asarco after 25 years in 1975 and returned to Childress to resume full-time farming and ranching. He loved studying the wonders of nature and working the land. It was important to him to leave a piece of God’s earth to his children. Mr. Wright married Juanita Anderson on Nov. 2, 1942, in Massachusetts. After 62 years together, he was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 6, 2004; a son Eddie Wright; a daughter, Joy Lee; brothers, Manuel, Alfred, Earl, Alonzo “Pug”, A.C. “Butch” Wright; and sisters, Lear and Dora Wright. Survivors include a son, Fred Wright of Amarillo; three daughters, Sandra Colbert and husband, Lonnie, Shirley Perry and Shelia Morrison, all of Amarillo; two brothers, Aubort Wright of Lubbock, Bob Wright of D’Hanis; four sisters, Vera Williams of Kennett, Mo., Girldene Wiggins of Morton, Doarthy Whitley and Lucille Plunkett, both of Amarillo; eleven grandchildren, Mike Coble, Keith Perry, Angela Lee, Susan Goodson, Gary Don Morrison, Erie Morrison and Christina Garcia, all of Amarillo, Daniel Perry of Oklahoma City, Kevin Coble of Huntington, Ind., Courtney Black of Nixa, Mo., and Brandy Pauline of San Antonio; and 16 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Jonathan H. Kisner SAN DIEGO - Jonathan H. Kisner, 49, former resident of Amarillo, died. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. John Watson, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., in Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Kisner was born in Amarillo on July 31, 1955, to Jerrel Travis Kisner and Mary Elizabeth Weatherly Kisner. He was a graduate of Amarillo High School and attended Amarillo College, San Angelo College, Oakton Community College and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was a computer engineer and served in that profession for approximately 20 years. Mr. Kisner was an accomplished musician and an avid snow and water skier. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother; two sisters, Jerry Lynn Kirkpatrick and husband, Dr. James Kirkpatrick, and Mary Beth Kisner-Griffin and husband, Robert; and a nephew, William Kirkpatrick. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ruben Zamora LEVELLAND - Ruben Zamora, 40, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in Plainview. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olton. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Olton Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Zamora was born Oct. 16, 1964, in Dimmitt to Israel and Petra Reyes Zamora. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, May Lou Zamora of Levelland; two sons, Nathan Tijerina and Damon Zamora, both of Levelland; his mother; four brothers, Israel Zamora of Topeka, Kan., Robert Zamora and Rene Zamora, both of Olton, and Gus Zamora of Stephenville; and three sisters, Amelia Zamora of Olton, Dora Ponce of Plainview and Linda Casares of Olton. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- H.W. Webb ABILENE - H.W. Webb, 92, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in Dumas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Epworth United Methodist Church in Abilene with Art Lynch, son-in-law of Mr. Webb and minister of the First Street Church of Christ in Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene by Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories in Abilene. Local arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors in Dumas. Mr. Webb was born March 14, 1913, one mile north of Golden City, Mo., to James and Laura Webb and went to a one-room country school named Golden Grove. He loved school, but at the completion of eighth grade, his father died, causing him to have to quit school to help his mother and siblings maintain the family farm. He never lost his thirst for learning and taught himself throughout his life by reading voraciously and pouring over math and history textbooks, encyclopedias and the Bible. He was awarded his high school diploma in 1972 at the age of 58, the same year that his youngest son graduated from The University of Texas. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in World War II both stateside and in Hawaii, England, France and Germany. He returned from Europe in 1945 and worked as an accountant for a wholesale grocery for a few years in several Texas towns, including Amarillo in 1950 and 1951. He then worked in Abilene as a mail carrier with the Abilene Post Office Department until his retirement in 1973. After his retirement, he worked for a number of years for the Abilene Reporter News, distributing papers to surrounding towns. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was also an enthusiastic volunteer in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and the Service Corp of Retired Executives. In these programs, as well as on his own, he helped many Abilene citizens by figuring income taxes, balancing checkbooks and giving financial advice. He received several awards for his involvement in these programs, including the RSVP Staff Award and the Volunteer of the Year award in 1991. He lived in Abilene for 54 years. Mr. Webb worked hard to provide for his family. One of his main goals in life was to provide a college education for his three children, a goal which he proudly accomplished. He was a faithful, loving husband to his wife, Maurene Horn, for 32 years until her death in 1976, and a faithful, loving husband to his second wife, Anita Denton, for 23 years, until her death in 2002. He was a member of Brookhollow Christian Church for many years. He later attended Epworth United Methodist Church with his second wife. He was an accepting and loving father, stepfather, father-in-law and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include two sons, Kenny Webb and wife, Susan, of Ontario, Canada, and Allen Webb and wife, Chris, of Houston; a daughter, Judy Lynch and husband, Art, of Dumas; a stepdaughter, Faye Laughlin of Abilene; nine grandchildren, Austin, Esme, Travis, Ann, Amy, Lisa, Marc, Vanessa and Jennifer. Second, Dumas, TX 79029 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- George Calvin Richards NORTH ZULCH - George Calvin Richards, 71, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in Bryan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of North Zulch with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Willowhole Cemetery by Madisonville Funeral Home. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Richards was born on April 19, 1934, in Bryan to Elbert and Lillie Horton Richards. He was a resident of North Zulch for 10 years and was formerly of Amarillo. He retired as a supervisor after more than 30 years of working at Cal Farley Boys Ranch. Mr. Richards had a passion for working with children. He enjoyed baseball, softball, volleyball, fishing and loved to listen to the Gaithers. Mr. Richards was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Elbert Richards; and a brother Thurman Ray Richards. Survivors include a son, G.C. Richards Jr. and wife, Jean, of Amarillo; a duaghter, Lela Turner and husband, Bill, of Channing; a special friend, Suzette Rogers of North Zulch; two brothers, Pete Richards and wife, Wanda, and Morris Richards and wife, Brenda, all of North Zulch; three grandchildren, Corbin Richards of Amarillo, David Turner of Channing and Stephanie and husband, Sgt. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Pam Cel Hall at Celenese in Pampa, Texas. A gathering will be held at 1933 N. Christy in Pampa. Arrangements are by Guardian-Norman Funeral Home. Mr. Cates was born June 10, 1953. He was a truck driver for National Carriers, who enjoyed traveling the open roads and listening to country music.
