Heinen Leo G. Heinen, 88, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery with Robert Field officiating. Arrangements by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Heinen was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Kingfisher, Okla., to Peter and Virgel Heinen. He was raised and started his own family in Tulsa, Okla., and has lived in Amarillo for the last 55 years. Mr. Heinen was a salesman spending much of his career with Golden Light Coffee Co. and retiring from Cains Coffee Co. The family would like to give a special thanks to the LTAC Unit at Plum Creek Specialty Hospital in Amarillo for their compassionate care for Leo over the last six weeks. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Heinen on June 11, 1997; his wife of 51 years, Vergie Heinen on Dec. 26, 2003; three brothers; and a sister. Survivors include three sons, Jim Heinen, Tom Heinen and wife, Kay, of Collinsville, Okla., and Pete Heinen and wife, Jayne, of Amarillo; a sister, Betty Armstrong and her husband, as well as Leo's close friend, Sam, of Riverside, Calif.; six grandchildren, Brenda Brown, Steve Heinen, Dena Edwards, and Dustin, Danielle and Hunter Heinen and their mother, Denese Heinen; and seven great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ret. Lt. Col. William Lamont Clark Sr. Ret. Lt. Col. William Lamont Clark Sr., 78, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Mr. Clark was born Sept. 17, 1926, to Grace Carroll Clark and William Edward Clark in Atlanta. After spending most of his childhood in Tucson, Ariz., Bill enlisted in the Army right out of high school. He went through airborne training at Fort Bragg, N.C. While stationed at Fort MacArthur, Calif., he met Carol June Uhrig. They married at Fort Riley, Kan., on Sept. 20, 1949, and Bill was commissioned on Sept. 22 after completing Officers Candidate School. Bill loved his country and was proud to serve at home and abroad. He spent two combat tours in Korea and a year in Vietnam during his 27 years of meritorious service. He was a member of the 11th Airborne Division, 674th Airborne Field Artillery Battalion and 187th Regimental Combat Team. After returning from Vietnam, he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., where he retired in 1972. In 1977, he and his family moved to Amarillo, where he lived out the rest of his life. Survivors include his wife; a son, William L. Clark Jr. of El Paso; two daughters, Sharon Guardino and husband, Al, of Amarillo and Valerie Clark of Dallas; a grandson, William L. Clark III of Amarillo; and a granddaughter, Shevaun C. Guardino of Arlington. The family suggests memorials be to the Child Protective Agency's Rainbow Room; Paramount Terrace Christian Church Building Fund; or a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allen Hilton King Allen Hilton King, 84, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be private in Llano Cemetery. Mr. King was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Hazel, Okla., to Karl Mitchell King and Wynnefred Graves King. The family moved to Lubbock in 1930. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1937 and Texas Tech in 1941 with a bachelor of science in agronomy. He joined the Soil Conservation Service in June 1941. He entered the Coast Guard in 1942 and attended the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., where he completed training as a specialist in chemical warfare. He married Gwendolyn Chamberlain on Sept. 18, 1942, in St. Petersburg, Fla. They would celebrate their 63rd anniversary next month. After his discharge in May 1945, he returned to the SCS serving in positions with the agency in Seguin, Yorktown, Floresville, Mission, Laredo and Lubbock. He moved to Amarillo in May 1955, and served the western and northern third of the state. Two of his highest awards were the Meritorious Service Award from the SCS in 1972 and the Superior Service Award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, presented in 1975 in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1976 after 35 years of work in the agriculture community. Mr. King was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo and was a 50-plus year member of the Floresville Masonic Lodge No. 515 A.F.&A.M. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John G. King; and a sister, Virginia Cox. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Deborah Bailey and husband, David, of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Bryan Bailey of Dalhart and Karen Bailey of Dallas. The family suggests memorials be to Meals on Wheels, 219 W. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101; or Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, P.O. Box 31180, Amarillo, TX 79120. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Odell Filyaw David Odell Filyaw, 51, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. No services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Filyaw was an Air Force veteran. He liked to work on cars. Survivors include a son, Benjamin David Filyaw. The family suggests memorials be to the VA Hospital. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Johnny Herman Flannery Johnny Herman Flannery, 63, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Flannery was born July 23, 1942, in Knoxville, Tenn., and served in the Army Airborne as a Ranger during the Vietnam War. He was a truck driver. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Coombes had been a lifelong resident of Pampa, graduating from Pampa High School in 1937. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, A.P.; two sons, Charles Robert Coombes of Pauls Valley, Okla., and Pete Coombes of League City; two daughters, Mary Alice Lindvay of Amarillo and Jackie Harper of Pampa; 13 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. Burial will be in Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Fort Dodge with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714 VFW. Mr. Frazee was born July 30, 1946, in Syracuse. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his wife, Marie; two daughters, Sheri Victory of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Peggy Cook of Hardesty, Okla.; two sons, Ken Frazee of Fort Worth and Curtis Frazee of Amarillo, Texas; three brothers, Johnson Frazee and Keith Frazee, both of Phoenix, and Don Frazee of Atlanta; five sisters, Florence Gales of Belpre, Twila Jackson of Clarkshill, S.C., Dorene Schaffer of Walsch, Colo., Wilma Lillybridge of Syracuse and LaRita Miller of South Covina, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Willard Gaston, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens in Midland. Mr. Goodwin was born Sept. 8, 1930, in Tatum, N.M. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co., Meridian Oil and retired with Burlington Resources in 1986.
