Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Harris was born in Prosser, Wash., on June 22, 1948. He graduated from Mabton High School in Mabton, Wash., in 1966 and Perry Tech in Yakima, Wash., in 1969. Mr. Harris was a resident of Amarillo for years. Mr. Harris was employed at Cenex Harvest States (CHS) of Amarillo. With over 30 years as a transport driver, Mr. Harris has many friends throughout the United States. He was a loyal Cubs fan and a NASCAR man. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Harris in September 1969; and an infant brother, Randall in 1959. Survivors include his mother, Betty Harris of Yakima; a daughter, Andrea of Yakima; two sisters, Julie Harris and Pam Covey, both of Yakima; three nieces, Stephanie Jones, Meranda Covey and Audra Studdard, all of Yakima; a nephew, Garth Covey of Yakima; a granddaughter, Bryanna Harris of Yakima; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; his Amarillo family, Jim and Dee Breton, Doug and Tawana Ford, Rhonda Ford Moore and Ronnie Moore, Juan and Vickie Rodriguez, Jim and Charlsye Oblander of Goodwell, Okla., Chet and Robin Oblander and Meriem Nicholes, all of Guymon, Okla., Dr. Brenda Nicholes of Broadwiew Heights, Ohio, Mike and Brandi Oblander of Norman, Okla., Charles L. Heinen, 88, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Llano Cemetery with Robert Field officiating. Arrangements by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Heinen was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Kingfisher, Okla., to Peter and Virgel Heinen. He was raised and started his own family in Tulsa, Okla., and has lived in Amarillo for the last 55 years. Mr. Heinen was a salesman spending much of his career with Golden Light Coffee Co. and retiring from Cains Coffee Co. The family would like to give a special thanks to the LTAC Unit at Plum Creek Specialty Hospital in Amarillo for their compassionate care for Leo over the last six weeks. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Heinen on June 11, 1997; his wife of 51 years, Vergie Heinen on Dec. 26, 2003; three brothers; and a sister. Survivors include three sons, Jim Heinen, Tom Heinen and wife, Kay, of Collinsville, Okla., and Pete Heinen and wife, Jayne, of Amarillo; a sister, Betty Armstrong and her husband, as well as Leo's close friend, Sam, of Riverside, Calif.; six grandchildren, Brenda Brown, Steve Heinen, Dena Edwards, and Dustin, Danielle and Hunter Heinen and their mother, Denese Heinen; and seven great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert E. Saunders Robert E. Saunders, 56, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Saunders loved children, enjoyed woodworking and cherished fishing. He was an avid racing fan. Survivors include a brother, Bill Cole of Olathe, Kan.; two sisters, Kathrine Cole of Olathe and Pat Dalrymple of Amarillo; a nephew, Danny Saunders of Olathe; and a very special friend, Margaret Daniel of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ellen Gidney McCoy Ellen Gidney McCoy, 87, of Austin, formerly of Amarillo, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Murray Gossett of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Arrangements by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. McCoy was born March 16, 1918, in Shelby, N.C. She attended Brevard North Carolina Junior College and graduated from Winthrop Senior College in Rockhill, S.C., with a BS in Music. On Aug. 17, 1944, she married Lt. Commander Brady Laredo McCoy of McLean. They moved to Amarillo in January 1946. Mrs. McCoy was an accomplished pianist, artist, wife and mother. She was a member of Philharmonic Music Club, Fine Arts Association and First Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, William Kid McCoy and wife, Alexis Crow, of Charlottesville, Va.; a daughter, Patricia Ellen McCoy and husband, Ron Ilg, of Austin; a sister, Edwina Dixon of Norfolk, Va.; and a granddaughter, Margaret Ellen McCoy of Charlottesville. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peggy Jo Tipton Peggy Jo Tipton, 75, of Inola, Okla., formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, in Tulsa, Okla. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Modick, seniors pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Tipton was born July 7, 1930, in Amarillo and moved to Inola in November 1999. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Inola and made her home at Inola Health Care Center. She was an avid wrestling fan her entire life. Survivors include three sons, Darrell of Las Vegas, and Harrell and Dory, both of Inola; 16 grandsons; a granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Dominguez, 82, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005. A private mass will be at a later date. Texas Tech donation arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Dominguez was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Capula Michucan, Mexico. He had worked for the City of White Deer. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; three sons, Arthur Dominguez and Charles Dominguez, both of White Deer, and Albert Dominguez of Grand Rapids, S.D.; two daughters, Grace Hudson of White Deer and Amy Germany of Pampa; and 10 grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vincent W. Flaherty PAMPA - Vincent W. Flaherty, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Francisco Perez, pastor of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Flaherty was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II. He was the owner and operator of a lawn and tree trimming service and a crossing guard at Austin Elementary School. Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of White Deer with the Rev. Alan Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Mitchell was born April 25, 1933, in Goodlett. He was reared in Wheeler, graduating from Wheeler High School in 1952. He married Mary Riley on Sept. 26, 1953, in Wheeler. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1993. He had been a resident of White Deer since 1960. He worked for Cabot and IRI for 37 years, retiring in 1995. He was a charter member of the White Deer Riding Club. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during peace time. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Saylor Danner in 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Seale, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery in Hedley by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hammond was born March 12, 1909, in Brown County to William Columbus Shults and Sarah Elizabeth Long Shults. She had been a resident of Clarendon for more than 31 years. She married Oscar T. Hammond on Dec. 30, 1933, in Memphis. She earned her LVN degree after she was 50 years old and worked for several years as a nurse. She belonged to Rebekah Lodge in Clarendon for more than 50 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 7, 1984. Survivors include a sister, Ogetha Shults of Clarendon; a brother, Tom Shults and wife, Cleta, of Clarendon; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Guadalupe Mayorga and the Rev. Ken Keller officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mr. Sanchez was born Aug. 21, 1954, in Bay City, Mich. He worked as a cattle handler in Castro County for 15 years. Survivors include two brothers, Doroteo Sanchez of Dallas and David Sanchez of Dimmitt; and a sister, Maria Guzman of Hale Center. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Walter Max Wade GROOM - Walter Max Wade, 93, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Groom with the Rev. David Kelly, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Groom Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Wade was born Oct. 24, 1911, in Talpa to the Rev. Walter Jordan Wade and Beulah Emmaline Ward Wade. The family lived in several small towns in Coleman County before moving to Groom in 1927 when they bought the Groom News. Max started setting type and working in the family office when he was 12. He graduated from Groom High School in 1928. He married Helen Virginia Vassey of Bovina on July 10, 1932. She preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1998. They published the Groom News until 1978, and during that time, Max worked in print shops in Pampa, Borger and Amarillo. He served as the Carson County J.P. from 1956 until his retirement in 1991. Max was a World War II veteran. He was inducted into the Army in March 1944. After various training, he was sent to Europe where he served with the 9th Armored Division - 27th Armored Infantry Battalion, as a bazooka specialist. He was part of the Remagen Bridge, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaign. He left the Army in 1946 and was glad to return to Groom and resume the newspaper. Max belonged to First Baptist Church of Groom. He was a member of Masons of Texas for more than 70 years, and was a charter member of Groom Lions Club. Max loved Groom and the people. He was especially proud of the school system and always enjoyed his visits around town. He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Walter Vassey Wade; three sisters, Jessie McSpadden, Effie Johnson and Ruth Berggren; and a brother, Gene Wade. Survivors include three daughters, Maxine Anglin and Dr. James Anglin of Childress, Dr. Twila Wade of Bedford and Kayla and Jim Cayer of Las Vegas; his grandchildren, Maj. Wade Anglin and wife, Kelly, of Houston, Maj. Travis Anglin and wife, Kim, of Canyon, Quanna Anglin of Fort Worth and Dean Wade Kilmer of Albuquerque, N.M.; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob Anglin and Joshua Anglin, both of Houston, and Sarah Anglin of Canyon. Mrs. Quiroz was born in Caseta, Mexico, on Nov. 23, 1949. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Jacinto; three sons, Ricardo Quiroz of Amarillo, Jacinto Quiroz Jr. of Hereford and Omar Quiroz of Dimmitt; three daughters, Jo Anna Blanco and Monica Lopez, both of Dimmitt, and Nancy Quiroz of Amarillo; a sister, Ortencia Estrada of El Paso; three brothers, Salvador Moreno of Roswell, N.M., Juan Alberto Salinas of Torreon, Mexico, and Joaquin Moreno of Durango, Mexico; and eight grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grace Sweatt TULIA - Grace Sweatt, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Sweatt was born June 3, 1913, in the Houston Community of Swisher County. She grew up and attended schools there until the sixth grade. She then attended school in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School. She also graduated from West Texas Teachers College. She married Elbert Sweatt on Aug. 6, 1939, in the Houston Community. She was a teacher for Tulia School District for almost 35 years. She also taught piano and guitar. She volunteered at the Good Shepherd Christian Outreach and worked with the literacy program in Tulia. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 22, 1990; a brother, Ernest Sorrenson; and two sisters, Effie Parker and Doris Hansen. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Evans and husband, Jerry, of Tulia; a son, Mike Sweatt and wife, Jolynn, of Granbury; five grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Jeff Kline of Minneapolis, Scott Kline of Costa Mesa, Calif., Bryce Kline of Missouri, and Robert Hathaway and Stephen Hathaway, both of California; three daughters, Robin Iverson of Granbury, Kathleen Kline of Minnesota and Delene Douglas of Fritch; three brothers, John Ruffino, Tom Ruffino and Frank Ruffino, all of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Liz Lapsley of Tampa, Fla., and Marilyn Myers of Omaha; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Burial will be in East Mound Cemetery by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Vinson was a farmer and rancher and a lifelong resident of Motley County. He was a member of Matador Masonic Lodge No. 824. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Linda Perryman of Roaring Springs; a son, Roger Vinson of Lubbock; three grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.
