Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Cantrell was born June 7, 1950, in Borger to Russell and Mary Cantrell. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1969, and worked as a commercial painter from 1969 until 1989. In 1989, he went to work for the Postal Service. He recently worked at the Lone Star Station on Western Street. Rusty was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 1037. He served as union steward from 1993 to 1998, and then served as vice president in 1999. He was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Ernest Cantrell Sr. in 1978. Survivors include two daughters, Krisa Ashley Cantrell of Numazu City, Japan, and Katie Noel Cantrell of Amarillo; a stepson, Brandon Massey of Amarillo; his mother, Mary F. Davis of Fort Worth; a sister, Donna Beer of Austin; his grandmother, Magdeline Cantrell of Odessa; a nephew, Jeff Beer of Austin; and a niece, Kellie Chargois of Austin. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lorene Sooter Burgett Lorene Sooter Burgett, 80, of Amarillo, formerly of Shallowater, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2005. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock with Doug Hale officiating. Arrangements are by Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Mrs. Burgett was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Gaines County, to the late Roy and Clara Jones Cummins. She married Joe Sooter in 1951. Following Joe's death in 1987, she married Bill Burgett in 1989. Together they established the Shallowater Senior Center. Lorene was also an active member of Meals on Wheels, a longtime member of Vandelia Church of Christ in Lubbock, as well as the Church of Christ in Shallowater. Throughout her life, she was a loving and loyal wife, mother and grandmother. She was known as Mama Lo to her grandchildren who were constant sources of pride. In 2004, she moved to Craig Retirement Community in Amarillo, where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Nicki Wilcoxson and husband, Jim, of Amarillo; two sons, Dwight Sooter and wife, June, of Lebanon, Ky., and Tim Sooter and wife, Lana, of Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Carnetta Conner and husband, Jerry, of Amarillo; three stepsons, Bryan Burgett and wife, Linda, of Lubbock, Glen Burgett and wife, Karen, of Shallowater and Roy Sooter and wife, Sue, of Amarillo; two sisters, Faye Gill and husband, Clyde, of Lubbock and Pauline Eklund of Brush, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her beloved canine companion, Lexie. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with J. Lelan Callaway and Denise Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Lott was born in Portales, N.M., on Aug. 1, 1923. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1941 and joined the Army, serving in the Pacific. He was a lifelong member of Bricklayers Allied Craftworkers No. 1 union, where he served as secretary for many years. He was active with the VFW No. 1475 and American Legion Post 54. He was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; and a brother. Survivors include his wife, Ann; twin brother, Wilford Lott of Yukon, Okla.; a brother, LeeRoy Lott of Denver; a sister, Jewel Keith of Farmington, N.M.; two daughters; six sons; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Scott was born March 21, 1931, to George Riley Scott and Ora Julia Scott in Pampa. He had worked as a carpenter and a builder. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Scott; and a stepdaughter, Susan Ray. Survivors include three sons, Mike Scott, Mitchell Scott and Patrick Scott, all of Amarillo; three daughters, Michelle Sparks and Sandy Gadman, both of Amarillo, and Stephanie Danielle of Livingston; two stepsons, Terry Covey of Amarillo and Bobby Covey of Wichita, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Patricia Peek of Amarillo, and Tammy Turpin and Cindy Elliott, both of Houston; a brother, Bobby Scott of Amarillo; 30 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mildred Irene Reeves Mildred Irene Reeves, 88, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, in Franklin, Tenn. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with Ben Sturgeon officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Reeves was born east of Austin in Elgin, where she graduated from high school in 1934. She attended business school in Austin where she learned her life long trade of legal stenographer and secretary. She was married on May 2, 1936, and resided most of her adult life in Amarillo. During her professional years, she worked for Phillips Petroleum Co., Culton, Morgan, Britten & White law firm, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Judge Naomi Harney, Judge Brian Poff, District Attorney Danny Hill and Judge Corky Roberts. She spent several years as bookkeeper for the lumber, home building, residential property development and rental property businesses owned by her husband. Mrs. Reeves enjoyed bowling and competing in tournaments. She was an avid artist whose beautiful landscape oil paintings grace the homes of family and friends. She loved spending time with her little dog "Precious." She will be remembered for her kind, giving and loving heart and her beautiful laugh. Mrs. Reeves was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Mrs. Reeves died 25 years to the day after the death of her beloved husband, E.J. "Jack" Reeves. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Greg Fouts. Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Reeves Sturgeon and husband, Ben, of Cedar Hill; a son, Eddie Reeves and wife, Randy, of Franklin; four grandchildren, Karla Fouts Hilton and husband, Tim, of Granbury, Marc Reeves and wife, Michelle, of Somerville, N.J., Natalie Reeves Farrow and husband, Barry, of Fairview, Tenn., and Sophie Reeves of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; and a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Auburn Farrow. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. The body will be available for viewing from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the Ambassador Hotel following the graveside service. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leroy Hicks Leroy Hicks, 67, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005. The wake will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bethel Baptist Church in Rule with the Rev. Clovis Devers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rule Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Hicks was born March 13, 1938, in Temple. He attended school in Temple. Upon moving to Amarillo, he was employed by Reid and Gary Strickland Co., from which he retired after 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons; a daughter; and a brother. Survivors include his wife, Francis; his mother, Euanna Hicks of Rule; a son, Larry Hicks of Houston; a daughter, Gerigiana Hicks of Amarillo; three brothers, Charles and David Hicks, both of Abilene, and George Hicks of Beaumont; three sisters, Pearlene Lewis of Killeen, Mae E. Walker of Abilene and Mary L. Riggin of Levelland; eight grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freda Dee Dugger Freda Dee Dugger, 82, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Conway officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Dugger was born Aug. 26, 1922. She was an Amarillo resident the majority of her life. She attended Wolflin Elementary, Elizabeth Nixon Jr. High and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. She attended Amarillo Junior College and graduated from Baylor University in 1944 with a music education degree. Later, she earned her master of education degree from West Texas University. She taught school at Glenwood Elementary, then moved to Enid, Okla., with her husband. She married C.C. "Bus" Dugger in March 1945. They met when Bus was sent to Glenwood School to speak with them about Kids, Inc. His job moved them to Lubbock and then back to Amarillo. Back in Amarillo, she taught at Humphrey's Highland and Forest Hill. She taught in Enid and Shallowater while they lived there, but most of her tenure was in Forest Hill. She taught both private piano lessons and public school music. During many of her years at Forest Hill, she served as first vice president of the PTA and directed the school's programs and activities. Before she retired in 1982, she taught not only music, but fifth and sixth grade social studies. She and her husband spent much of their vacation time traveling in the United States and overseas. They took many slides and pictures during their travels and were able to share these with the children they taught, making "book information" more meaningful. Freda enjoyed teaching enough to talk her husband into getting his degree and teaching for 26 years. He retired as principal from Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Since that time they have continued to travel. They spent the winters in the Rio Grande Valley, but were back in Amarillo most of the summers. Survivors include her husband; a niece; and two nephews. Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Thursday in Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Hector Gallegos, deacon, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Calamateo was born in Oenaville and raised in Hale Center. He moved to Amarillo three years ago and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Survivors include two brothers, Salvador Calamateo and Antonio Calamateo, both of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don L. Boswell Don L. Boswell, 75, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger Hubbard officiating. Burial will be private by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Boswell was born June 1, 1930, in Oklahoma City. After graduating from Foster High School in Oklahoma City in 1948, he went to work for American Equipment and Trailer in the city. In 1951, he joined the Army. He proudly served his country as an artillery man in the Korean War, where he was decorated with the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Upon his discharge from the service, he attended Central State College in Edmond, Okla. He transferred to Amarillo with American Equipment and Trailer in 1958. He retired from them after 38 years. During his retirement he enjoyed his favorite hobbies: hunting, fishing, dancing and wood-working. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ettie and Dick Boswell; two brothers, Dewey and Leroy; and three sisters, Barbara, Fleda and Cappie. Survivors include his wife, Jeanie; a daughter, Pam O'Leary and husband, Ralph, of Amarillo; a son, Brad and wife, Sheri, of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Shalean and Austin; a stepdaughter, Vicki Clements and husband, Chuck, of Houston; a stepson, Joe Johnson and wife, Mary, of Kilgore; three stepgrandchildren, Zechariah, Abigail and Caleb; two sisters, Kay Sullins and husband, Jack, of Oklahoma City and Edna Hales of Colingua, Calif.; a brother, Bob of Brownfield; and many nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa. Mr. Kitchens was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Roberts County. He married Juanita Keel on Sept. 28, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe Kitchens of Borger and Jon Kitchens of Tyler; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Crisanto Jesus "Jesse" Dominguez WHITE DEER - Crisanto Jesus "Jesse" Dominguez, 82, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Mieczyslaw Przepiora, pastor, officiating. Mr. Dominguez worked for the city of White Deer, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in White Deer. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; three sons, Arthur Dominguez and Charles Dominguez, both of White Deer, and Albert Dominguez of Rapid City, S.D.; two daughters, Grace Hudson of White Deer and Amy Germany of Pampa; and eight grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minnie Evelyn Haning MOBEETIE - Minnie Evelyn Haning, 73, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mobeetie Cemetery with Dick Irvine, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Haning was born April 6, 1932, to Wallace and Mazie Ruth Robison in Mobeetie. She married Harold G. “Peeler” Haning in 1948. They worked and lived on the 6666 Ranch until 1974. They then moved to Sanford Ranch, where they worked and lived until 1988. Both retired in 1988 and moved back to Mobeetie. Mrs. Haning was a loving and devoted wife, mother and “Big Mom.” She was a member of Mobeetie Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997; her parents; a daughter, Janice Griffith; a grandson, Justin Haning; three sisters; and a brother. Burial will be in Channing Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Shafer was born May 12, 1929, in Channing. She was a resident of Channing since 1954 and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Channing. She married Lewis Shafer on Dec. 23, 1945, in Tucumcari, N.M. She retired in 1993 after serving 23 years as a cook for Channing Independent School District. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 21, 1985; and a son, Bobby Glenn Shafer on Jan. 7, 2002. Survivors include a son, Danny W. Shafer and wife, Pat, of Channing; two daughters, Hazel Miller and husband, Larry, and Vicki and Rex Reynolds, all of Channing; a brother, L.B. Mr. Smith was born July 10, 1958, in Kingsville to Robert and Juanita Durivage Smith. He graduated from Aransas High School in 1976 and then graduated from Texas A&M in 1982 with a BS in agronomy. He married Tonya Deisher in Plainview on July 27, 1985. He was area sales manager for Pioneer Hi-Bred Intl. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Smith; a brother, Ricky Smith; and his grandparents, Pat Durivage and Fain and Estelle Smith.
