Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Christian Church with Dr. Jerry Kirkpatrick, interim, and the Rev. Marvin James officiating. A private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Burnett was born Aug. 18, 1914, at Wills Point to Elmer and Maury Wolfe Burnett. While at Wayland University, Argus taught history and Bible. After completing his education he pastored a number of Baptist churches. He served as director of Amarillo Baptist Association from Feb. 16, 1957, to Oct. 31, 1966. He became the first director and developer of the Potter-Randall Community Action Corp. on Nov. 1, 1966, serving for 18 years. After he expanded it into all 26 counties of the Panhandle, the name was changed to Texas Panhandle Community Services. He helped start Retired Senior Volunteers Program and the Head Start programs. He also helped organize Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, and after his retirement remained on the ASCA board of directors for many years. He developed community centers in all 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle. He also developed the transportation system to transport the ill and elderly to Amarillo for needed services. He served as third vice president of the National Association for Community Development. Working with the National Community Action Agency Executive Directors Association, he submitted a plan known as the "Burnett Plan" for the two organizations to merge and become an effective lobby group. He also served on their Legislative Forum. After retirement he served eight years as a volunteer for AARP, serving as Housing Information Director to help seniors remain in their homes. He was director of five counties for this program. In 1996, he and his family became members of First Christian Church. He served as interim minister of several churches including Childress, Plainview, Miami, and for 27 years was part of the work of North Amarillo Christian Church. He served on the first Planning Committee for what would become Baptist Hospital. He served as member and chairman of the Supervisory and Audit Committee of Amarillo Federal Credit Union for many years. He was a founding board member and helped develop Martha's Home. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club and served in many capacities there. He served in many other groups and committees and loved helping in the community. Most of all he loved his God, his family and his church. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. And according to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren he was "A GOOD KID." Mr. Burnett was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Burnett, in May 2005. Survivors include his wife, Jean; three daughters, Terri Gardner and her husband, Toby, of Amarillo, Beverly Faubion and her husband, Paul, of Dallas, and Jaci Coan and her husband, David, of Grapevine; a son, David Burnett and his wife, Donna, of Lubbock; a brother, Johnny Burnett and his wife, Barbara, of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Willie Mae Fisher of Dallas; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family wishes to thank BSA Hospice, especially Twila, Ann, Rhonda and Eve. They also wish to thank Nurses Unlimited, especially Deana and Crystal. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Other arrangements were by Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Mo. Minnie Bell Ayers Brown, 78, formerly of Amarillo, passed away at 12:15 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin after a short illness. Born Aug. 18, 1927 in McLean, she was the daughter of the late Wayland A. Ayers and Ruby Hunt Ayers. She had lived in Webb City the past six years, moving from Amarillo, where she'd lived most of her lifetime. She graduated from Alanreed High School at Alanreed. She retired from St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo after many years and in her younger life she worked with her parents in the former Golden Spread and Art's Caf, both in Amarillo. She also worked several years as a switchboard operator. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Amarillo. She married Thomas Perry Brown on May 26, 1959, in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1983. A daughter, Dorothy Wood also preceded her in death in 1990. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Wiegand and husband, Mike, of Marble Falls, Ann McHenry and husband, George, of Webb City, Ruby Davis of Amarillo, Peggy Davis and husband, Marty, of White Deer; a brother, J.D. Ayers of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She had lived in Amarillo for more than 50 years. She married G. O. Murphy on May 26, 1956, in Tucumcari, N.M. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rory Murphy and wife, Marnell, of Amarillo and Mike Murphy and wife, Tatyana, of McKinney; two sisters, Colleen Yates and June Dines, both of Clovis, N.M.; a brother, Sam Kennedy of Denver, Colo.; and 3 grandchildren. Mr. Cornell was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Paducah and was a former longtime resident of Clarendon. He had lived in Midland for several years before moving to Memphis about 25 years ago. He was a law enforcement officer most of his life before his retirement, and was a member of the Texas Sheriffs Association. He was a member of the Clarendon Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 6 and was a Methodist. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Waldrop and husband, Tommy, of Shamrock and Dianne Brunson and husband, David, of Muleshoe; a brother, C.W. Mrs. Walker was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Temple, the daughter of Eugene and Marybell Franklin. She was a homemaker and a licensed baby sitter, taking care of many Hereford children throughout the years. She married William Walker in 1961 at Greeley, Colo. Mrs. Walker was a longtime resident of Hereford and a member of Hereford Central Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wiseman was born Jan. 2, 1958, in Amarillo, Texas, to Otho "Coke" Wiseman and Betty Lee (Hall) Wiseman. He graduated from Clayton High School with the class of 1976 and worked most of his life as a mechanic in Amarillo, Texline and Clayton. "Pete" Herrera GUYMON, OKLA. - Pedro M. "Pete" Herrera, 63, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Pruett officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Herrera was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Roy, N.M. He served in the Army, and moved to Guymon after his honorable discharge in 1962.
