Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Dana Moore, pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mrs. Burgett was born Feb. 18, 1963, in Denver to Harold and Shirlee Smalley. She worked in production services for McCormick Co. from 1988 to the present time. Survivors include her husband, Jeff Burgett; a daughter, Jeri Mitchell and husband, Ian, of Amarillo; two sons, Joshua Burgett and Jacob Burgett, both of Amarillo; her parents, Harold and Shirlee Smalley of Amarillo; two sisters, Lori Umberger and husband, Bill, of Johnson, Kan., and Patti Pineda and husband, Lenny, of Amarillo; her mother-in-law, Millie Burgett of Amarillo; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Nesbitt and husband, Jim, Michelle Cook and husband, KC, and Jana Slaughter and husband, Bobby, all of Amarillo; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends. The family suggests memorials be to the Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jacob Martinez Jacob Martinez, 35, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Jim Ritter of Seth Ward Baptist Church of Plainview officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Martinez was born in Lubbock and raised in Borger, where he graduated high school in 1988. After high school, he attended West Texas A&M University and graduated in 1994. He then attended Parker Chiropractor College of Dallas and graduated in 1997. He married Heather Ritter in 1992. Mr. Martinez was the owner of Elm Street Chiropractic in Frisco from 2000 to present. He was a member of the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and helping his family with their chiropractic needs. Mr. Martinez was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his children. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Guadalupe and Delfina Duarte and Alfredo and Concha Martinez. Survivors include his wife, Heather Martinez of Kingsville; three daughters, Sarah Martinez, Andrea Martinez and Kayla Martinez, all of Kingsville; a son, Joshua Zinn of Canyon; three sisters, Debbie Martinez and Priscilla Renteria, both of Amarillo, and Rebecca Powell of Lewisville; his father, Carlos Martinez of Plainview; and his mother, Lidia Anaya of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bernice S. Leary Bernice S. Leary, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005. Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Park Place Towers Parlor with the Rev. Alan Williamson officiating. Private entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Leary was born in Peru, Ill., on Dec. 1, 1919, to Charles and Eda Nelson. She married Lewis T. Leary in 1944 in Yuma, Ariz. He passed away in 1989. She had lived in Amarillo since 1946 and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the children's education department for many years. She was also active in United Methodist Women. She was a resident of Ware Memorial Living Center for the last two years. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Albert and Clyde Nelson. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Vaught of Hereford and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Ware Memorial Living Center, 400 W. 14th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Melville Mills CLARENDON - Melville Mills, 95, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in Claude. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Robertson Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Melvin Turner, retired Methodist minister from Wichita Falls, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mr. Mills was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Vera. He married Ruth Geneva Wallace on June 14, 1936, in Wichita Falls. He served in the Army during World War II and moved to Amarillo in 1943. Mel retired from Panhandle Fruit Co. after 27 years. He and Ruth built a home and moved to Howardwick in 1970. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Clarendon. He and his wife were organizers of the Donley County Senior Citizens Center in Clarendon. He was a loving husband and father. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ray Mills of Dallas; and a daughter, Sharon Thomas of Clarendon. Pallbearers will be Robert Waggoner, Bob Kidd, Doug Lowe, Gerald Mulanax, Mike Butts and Billy Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be the Skelton Sunday School Class. Mrs. Edmonds was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Durant, Okla., to W.G. Scott Sr. and Mary Virginia Harris Scott. She married William Hillard Edmonds on July 12, 1932, in Altus, Okla. Survivors include a sister, Willie Pickrel of Denison; four brothers, Walter Scott Jr. of Quanah, J.R. Scott of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Clyde Scott of Montgomery, Ala., and Marion Scott of Baytown; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harvey Don Mullin QUITAQUE - Harvey Don Mullin, 67, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in Dallas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Turkey Church of Christ with Stewart Smith and Randy Mullin officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Turkey by Seigler Funeral Home of Matador. Mr. Mullin had lived in the Fort Worth area for a number of years before returning to Turkey about two years ago. Harvey had worked in the commercial and residential construction business. He married Pinkey Price on May 15, 1999, in Gun Barrel City. He was a member of Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carla Wilkey and husband, Ron, and Vickie Howard and husband, Russell, all of Fort Worth; his mother, Lillian Mullin of Lockney; a brother, Dean Mullin and wife, Jean, of Quitaque; a sister, Joyce Young and husband, Dick, of Ellijay, Ga.; a grandson, Clayton; and two granddaughters, Carly and Jamie. The body will be available for viewing this afternoon until service time Tuesday at the church in Turkey. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allena Nelson DIMMITT - Allena Nelson, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Rhodes, pastor, and the Rev. Bryan Knowles of Clarendon officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home. Mrs. Nelson was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Acme. She married R.O. Nelson Jr. on Aug. 11, 1947, in Abilene. Survivors include a son, George Nelson of Dimmitt; a daughter, Jean Petty of Lubbock; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lavon Hall of Plainview. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Juanita Merritt ROLL, OKLA. - Juanita Merritt, 85, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, in Dumas, Texas. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Silent Home Cemetery in Roll with the Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas, officiating. Arrangements are by Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Cheyenne, Okla. Local arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Merritt was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Midland, Okla. She had been a Dumas resident the past three years, moving from Roll, where she had lived most of her life. Juanita was a longtime member of Church of the Nazarene in Borger, Texas, where she was a nurse at Golden Plains Hospital. She also was a nurse for several years at Shattuck Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Okla. She was a longtime homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Merritt in 1979. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Brown and husband, D.L., of Perry, Okla.; two sons, Jerry Merritt and wife, Mary, of Laverne, Okla., and J.E. Merritt and wife, Ann, of Crawford, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Pam, Penny, Deanne, Brian, Paul, Perry, Jennifer and Matt; and 13 great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Merritt, Matt Merritt, Paul Brown, Perry Brown, D.L. Brown and Jerry Murrow. The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second, Dumas, TX 79029. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Lou Anne Northcutt MCKINNEY - Lou Anne Northcutt, 56, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in McKinney Fellowship Bible Church with the Rev. Mike Stewart officiating. Arrangements are by Turrentine-Jackson- Morrow Funeral Directors. Mrs. Northcutt was born March 15, 1949, in Amarillo to Robert and Mildred Hunnicutt Mickey. On July 31, 1971, she married Mike Northcutt in Amarillo. Mrs. Northcutt began teaching in Tulia and Plainview schools from 1972 to 1978. While teaching in Plainview she became the principal of Highland Elementary School. She later became director of educational services in Duncanville. As an educator, she earned many grants and awards, including the 1997 Texas Principal of the Year award. She was also a past president of the Region 17 Educational Service Center. Mrs. Northcutt attended McKinney Fellowship Bible Church. She was preceded in death by her grandparents L.F. and Ethel Hunnicutt. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jay Allyn Northcutt and wife, Holly, of McKinney and Matt Colin Northcutt and wife, Laura, of Duncanville; her parents, Robert and Mildred Mickey of Canyon; two sisters, Kelly J. Mickey of Duncanville and Robin M. Ferro of Amarillo; and a grandchild, Addison Faith Northcutt of McKinney. The family suggests memorials be to the Susan G.
