Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with Dr. Murray Gossett, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Allison was born Aug. 12, 1913, in Gainesville to E.B. and Mary McKee Allison. The family moved to Temple, where he joined First Presbyterian Church. They later moved to Dallas and Oklahoma City. Mr. Allison graduated from Oklahoma City Central High in 1932. In 1929, he participated in the Junior Olympics in the decathlon, winning third place in the United States and setting an all-time record of 17 of 20 baskets in the free throw event. He moved to Amarillo in 1938, where he met and married Alice M. Dover on July 21, 1940. They celebrated their 65th anniversary this year. Mr. Allison served in the Navy from September 1943 to November 1945. He worked in the auto parts business, retiring in 1973. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Allison; and an infant son, Jack Jr. in 1942. Survivors include his wife; three nieces, Marian Daniel of Amarillo, Mardi Lusby of Oklahoma City and Betty Cook of Independence, Mo.; a nephew, Dover Amos of Amarillo; two great-nephews; and three great-nieces. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Madeline Ashby Madeline Ashby, 92, of Houston, formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Smith, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Ashby was born May 26, 1913, in Hotchkiss, Colo., to Ed and Jennie TeGrotenhuis. She married Stump Ashby, and they settled in Amarillo where they had three sons. Mrs. Ashby was a hairdresser for 20 years in various locations including Pleasant Valley. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and was a member of Bridge Builders Sunday School class. She will be remembered for her strong faith in God and her positive outlook on life. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two sons John Ashby and Steve Ashby. Survivors include a sister, Alice Holt of Austin; a brother, Ken TeGrotenhuis of Hotchkiss; a son, Dan Ashby of Cypress; a granddaughter, Dana Ashby of Cypress; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Brian Hesse officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Canyon by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Fluegel, a devoted early childhood Christian educator, died Thursday, Sept. 22. Born in Tilden, Neb., and raised in Battle Creek, Neb., Mrs. Fluegel was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Leona Hansen. She received her teaching certificate from Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, Neb., and then in 1955, she became the kindergarten teacher at Trinity Lutheran School in Amarillo. In 1956, she married Warner Fluegel of Canyon, whom she met when he volunteered to help paint her classroom. Mrs. Fluegel became the founding director of Trinity Lutheran Day Care in 1985 and was instrumental in establishing the Christian-based, childcare facility. In January 2005, she was recognized as a finalist for the Outstanding Early Childhood Educator of the Year, and in June, she retired from Trinity Lutheran School after more than 40 years in the classroom. Mrs. Fluegel was the mother of four children, foster mother to several more and surrogate mother to many of the young teachers that followed the same path to Amarillo. Her legacy also includes the hundreds of students she thoughtfully educated and lovingly nurtured in the classroom. The family would like to thank the staff of BSA Hospice for their loving care and support. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Warner; two daughters, Kaylene Weeks and husband, Paul, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kari Fluegel of Houston; two sons, Kyle Fluegel and wife, Leslie, of Amarillo, and Kurt Fluegel and wife, Rosanna, of McAllen; three brothers, Stan Hansen and wife, Ruby, of Mountain Home, Ark., Ken Hansen and wife, Fran, of Peoria, Ariz., and Rod Hansen and wife, Kathy, of Hastings, Neb.; and five grandchildren, the most recent of which was born Sept. 7 and baptized on Sept. 14 in the BSA Hospice Chapel with her grandmother in attendance. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon and Happy. Mrs. McKillip was born April 27, 1928, in Muleshoe to Carl and Mary Elizabeth Marsh Evans. She married Luther "Talmage" McKillip in Muleshoe on Feb. 12, 1950, and they made their home in Amarillo. She retired after working as the chief PBX operator at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital for 27 years. She was a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America, High Plains/BSA Retirees Committee, the Telephone Committee, the Stan Slade NTO Bowling League and Amarillo Women's Bowling Association and was an officer in the Lady's 500 Club. She was also a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Oleta Hamblin, Jerry Yonka, Ivydell Curtis and Jo Holmes; her parents; and a son, Rex McKillip. Mr. Lewis was born in Laurel, Miss., to Jim and Merlene Lewis. He graduated from Clovis High School, Wayland Baptist College and Baylor University. He served in the Navy for 3 years. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954. He married Norma Kelly in Lubbock on Nov. 3, 1949. He pastored Southern Baptist churches in the Texas Panhandle and in Kansas, including Kelton, Adrian, Shamrock, Hugoton, Kan., Wellington, Kan., and Cliffside Baptist Church, Amarillo. He was a member of First Baptist and Strauss Atkinson Sunday school class. Mr. Herrington was an avid hunter. He was gin manager of Anderson Clayton for 11 years and a Massey Ferguson dealer for 16 years. Survivors include his wife, Patsy; two sons, Lex Herrington of Floydada and Max Ham of Crosbyton; two daughters, Lisa Herrington Welborn and Kim Eudy, both of Austin; a brother, N.W. She was an avid sports fan and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Haskell Bilbrey; her second husband, Glen Carpenter; a grandson, B.J. Bilbrey; a brother, Herbert Lester Allen; and four sisters, Lettie Jewel Perry, Dessie Naomi Griffith, Zula Mae Elliott and Esther French. Graveside services will be at noon Tuesday in Darrouzett Cemetery with military rites by the Darrouzett American Legion Kiowa Post No. 635. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home of Enid. Mr. Meier was born to Gottfried and Mary Edna Schoenhals Meier on Dec. 19, 1928, in Follett, Texas, and died Friday, Sept. 23 in Enid. He grew up in Shattuck and Booker, Texas, and then served in the Army in the Korean Conflict. On Jan. 2, 1958, he married Carolyn Ann Maschino, and they made their home in the Booker area. Bob was a farmer, rancher and truck driver. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Perryton, Texas, and the Darrouzett American Legion Kiowa Post No. 635. Survivors include his loving and caring wife, Carolyn; two sons, John Meier and wife, Sheila, of Darrouzett and Maxwell Meier of Enid; a daughter, Carol Rutz and husband, Michael, of Perryton; three grandchildren, James Lee Meier, Sarah Marie Ophelia Meier and Alyssa Faith Rutz; two sisters, Virginia Dunn of Booker and Donna Bell of Denver; a brother, Larry Meier and wife, Jessie, of Hugo, Colo.; three aunts, Ophelia Schoenhals of Shattuck, Emily Meier of Canadian, Texas, and Valentine Schoenhals of Lipscomb, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives. Mr. Rantz was born June 16, 1924, in Abernathy to Homer and Theadora Goebel Rantz. He married Vera Christine Leonard on May 27, 1961, in Littlefield. Survivors include a brother, Hilbert Rantz of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mary Head Moreland AUSTIN - Mary Head Moreland, 94, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Arrangements are by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Mrs. Moreland, a resident of Austin for 10 years, died Thursday, Sept. 22. Mrs. Moreland for 65 wonderful years was the wife of the Rev. H. Evans Moreland, an Episcopal priest who died in 1998, and the mother of Daniel G. Moreland of Austin. Born Nov. 4, 1910, in San Angelo, the daughter of Thomas H. and Nettie Katherine Griffin Head, Mrs. Moreland graduated from San Angelo High School and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Texas in 1935. While Mrs. Moreland's husband attended the Virginia Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Va., she worked in Washington, D.C., at the General Accounting Office as secretary to the chief of the claims division. Her life as a priest's wife was filled with volunteer work, including serving as Heart Sunday Chairman, Amarillo Symphony Guild member, and a hospital "Pink Lady." The couple's ministry included serving seven congregations in the Hill Country, churches in San Antonio, Brownsville, Denver, Amarillo, Mexico and London. While in London, Mrs. Moreland and her husband enjoyed many cultural activities and trips around the British Isles and the Continent. Mrs. Moreland was a longtime member of the Order of Daughters of the King, a lay order for women in the Episcopal Church, the Washington Cathedral Association and a longtime lay associate of the Community of the Holy Spirit, an order of Episcopal nuns. Survivors include a son, Dan, and wife, Cathie; two grandchildren, Courtney and Christopher; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Head of Hebron, Neb.; several nieces and nephews; and many godchildren. She married Bob Ford on Dec. 24, 1921. They moved to Levelland in January 1929 and lived there until August 1975, when they moved to Lubbock. Bob died on Oct. 21, 1981. They had one son, Bobby Max Ford. He died on Nov. 27, 1939, at the age of 12. Survivors include two nephews, Roy "Jack" Martin and Paul Martin, both of Amarillo; a niece, Margaret Goodson of California; several great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
