Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, associate pastor at Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Dorothy, born July 15, 1922, in Hugo, Okla., was raised in Hugo and Ada, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in the 1940s to accept a job as staff secretary with the USO, where she originated a placement service for military wives. In 1949, she and her husband opened Shaw & Associates, the second private employment agency in Amarillo. She continued operating the business until it was sold in 1985. Dorothy was one of the first in the nation to become a certified Personal Consultant when the certification tests were first given in 1960. Through her business she was a charter member of National Personnel Associates. She was an active member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Convention & Visitors Council, The Women's Council, the Aviation Committee and the Tourism Committee. She had served on the Amarillo Airport Board, was a member of the Esther McCrory Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, First Christian Church, the High Plains Aviation Association, and a charter member of The Texas Aviation Historical Society. Her first husband, J. Allen Shaw, preceded her in death in 1978. In 1993 she married R. Bruce Autry, and her husband and many friends survive her. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Chris Condit officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Nathan was born Oct. 26, 1989, in Amarillo. He was raised in Amarillo and lived here all of his life. He was a sophomore at Randall High School. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf and ride motorcycles. He was preceded in death by his dad, Benny Edwards, in 2004. Nathan was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his parents, Missy and Kent Cogdill of Amarillo; a sister, Cassie Edwards of Amarillo; two brothers, Hunter Edwards of Cincinnati, and Jerred Cogdill of Clovis, N.M.; his grandparents, Jerry and Janie Davis of Amarillo, Wilber and Doris Cogdill of Clovis, Sally Hooper of Abilene and Alton and Marlene Edwards of Ohio; and many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him very much. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- William "Bill" Grady Dupree William "Bill" Grady Dupree, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Eastridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Eker, pastor, Dr. James Rankin of Dallas, and Dr. Jim Braswell of Odessa officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. There will also be a service at 11 a.m. Friday at Wharton Funeral Chapel in Alva, Okla., with Dr. John Hellstern officiating, Burial will be in Avard Cemetery. Arrangements in Alva are by Wharton Funeral Home. Mr. Dupree was born Aug. 30, 1926, at Kiowa, Kan., and grew up in Avard, Okla., a small farming community. After high school graduation in 1944, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Memphis, Tenn., and New Orleans. Following his discharge in 1946, he owned and operated a cafÈ before going to Dallas to become a radio announcer. He attended West Texas State at Canyon and earned his bachelor of science degree in 1951. His first teaching post was sixth grade at Avondale in Amarillo, and he found his true calling was working with children. In 1953, he moved his family to Tucson, Ariz., and finished his master of education degree at the University of Arizona while teaching fifth and sixth grades at Ochoa Elementary. His love of Texas brought him back to Amarillo to accept the principalships at Eastridge Elementary from 1956 to 1960 and at South Georgia Elementary from 1960 to 1972. That year he was appointed administrator and superintendent of the Presbyterian Children's Home, a position he held four years. From 1976 to 1991 at Rolling Hills Elementary, he was known as the "singing principal." He began each school day playing his guitar in the auditorium, where the students would gather around him and sing. Every week he devoted several hours playing piano for the residents of Country Club Manor Nursing Home. After retirement, he taught music and physical education half-days in the San Jacinto school system and was a substitute teacher from 1996 through 2004, investing 53 years working with children. Bill loved life, laughter and dancing. He was an avid fisherman and rock hound. Above all, he loved his Heavenly Father and served as minister of music at Eastridge Baptist Church until his last illness. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Lottie Dupree, and a niece, Kimberly Elliott. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; a sister, Charlotte Dupree of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Charlotte Rogowski and husband, Rick, Teresa Callaway and husband, Kirby, all of Amarillo, and D'Anne Park and husband, John, of New York City; four stepchildren, Lei Ann Lohmann of Alva, Kirk Hilbig and wife, Kim, of Tulsa, Okla., Dr. Douglas Hilbig and wife, Penny, of Lakin, Kan., and Ryan Witchey and wife, Jill, of Stillwater, Okla. Higgins Glen Ray "G.R." Higgins, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Trent Sisemore officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Glen Ray Higgins was born on Sept. 19, 1926, at Maude, Okla., one of five children of James and Edith Higgins. He and his brothers, Jerry, Eldridge and James Edward Higgins and sister, Dolores Lowe grew up primarily in Borge. Glen joined the Navy at 18 and served overseas for three years as a Navy Radioman during World War II. He received medals in the European African Middle Eastern, Asiatic Pacific and American campaigns and two sets of air crew wings. In 1946, he married Ramona Joe Forrest at Borger. Glen learned the plastering trade from his father. His work took him and his family to many places including California, Indiana and the Bahamas. In 1957, the family settled in Amarillo and Glen started the Higgins Plastering Company. He was blessed with a successful business and a crew of wonderful, loyal workers who became lifelong friends. Glen and Ramona retired in 1986 to enjoy living, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Glen and his family are Baptist. Glen was preceded in death by a son, Terry Higgins, whom they lost at a young age. Glen has been blessed with a large and loving family, which includes lifelong friends and fishing buddies Billy and Jeanette Smallwood. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Glynda Warren-Keasler and husband, Jay, and Rhonda Maloney and husband, Dwaine, all of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Laina Ray Grimland, Erik Glen Maloney and Tony Warren; and three great-grandchildren, Dalton and Kaitlin Grimland and Braden Warren. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Mitchell was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Petersburg. She married Roy E. Mitchell Jr. and moved to Amarillo in 1945, where they reared four daughters and a son. Mrs. Mitchell was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, where she was involved in multiple areas of service and community work. She served as secretary for the Ostomy Association. She will be remembered for her strong faith in God and her positive outlook on life. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary E. Mitchell. Survivors include her husband of 64 years; four daughters, Darlena Calder of Ponder, Sharron Bueno and Sandra Slattery, both of Amarillo, and Kim Sanchez of Austin; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Niki Winslow of Monmouth, Ore. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Tiller David Tiller, 55, of Amarillo died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. David Tiller was born Feb. 12, 1950, to Wayne and Billie Tiller in Elmhurst. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1968 and West Texas University in 1973. David was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He enjoyed guitars, camping and riding motorcycles in Palo Duro Canyon. David worked for the city of Amarillo in information services as a computer programmer/analyst for the last 28 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Tiller, on March 7, 1979. Survivors include a sister, Pamela Tiller Wingo and husband, Ronald, of Amarillo; two brothers, his twin brother, Danny Tiller and wife, Angie, of Amarillo and Dr. Darryl Tiller and wife, Linda, of Norman, Okla.; and his mother, Billie Tiller of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Bob Garton HOLLIS, Okla. - Bob Garton, 69, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. Arrangements are by Stewart Funeral Service of Hollis. Mr. Garton was born March 25, 1936, to C.C. and Ollie Louise Garton at LaCasa. He married Marilyn Hunt on July 31, 1954, in Hollis. Mr. Gillispie was born June 22, 1928, at Marlow, Okla. He was a surveyor for the Texas Highway Department and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Remlinger was a resident of Moore County most of his life. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony Remlinger on May 5, 1958, and Ronnie Trolinder on Feb. 15, 1990; his father, Harold Remlinger in 1977; and his mother, Clara Trolinder on Jan. 17, 2002. Ms. Morrison was born on Sept. 25, 1956, in Greenville, Miss., and was a Moore County resident most of her life. She was a medical assistant. She was a member of Grace Thru Faith Fellowship Church. She graduated from Sunray High School and was an active participant in Ladies Golf Association. She loved her Bible study classes and was very involved in Moore County Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. After a long and courageous battle, she was called home to the Lord. Through it all, she had many blessings and touched the lives of all those fortunate enough to know her because to know her was to love her. Angie's faith remained strong and her courage was an inspiration to all those in her life. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister and special Gran and the best friend anyone could wish for and will be missed greatly. The love of her life was her grandchildren, children, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Monk Cooper in 1980 and her grandmother, Ethel Boone in 1998. Mrs. Hampton was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Tomahawk, Ark., to James Franklin and Dora Belle (Box) Mays. She was married to Clifford R. Hampton and they owned and operated Cliff's Barbeque Restaurant in Amarillo, Texas, before moving to Alamogordo in 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Brown Jr., 85, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005. A memorial service was Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stanley Larson and the Rev. Jimmie Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in the Columbarium at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Caruth Hale Funeral Home. Longtime Hot Springs resident and civic activist, Joseph C. Brown Jr., who inplemented the acquisition of Dierks Forests Inc. by the Weyerhaeuser Co., died Sept. 22, 2005. He was 85. Mr. Brown and his wife of 61 years, Charlotte, lived in Hot Springs for 36 years. Joe Brown, as he was known, was an active member of Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club, Hospice, Jackson House, President of Ouachita Area Boy Scouts of America Council, an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church and a volunteer with the Shepherd Center. He served as president of the Arkansas Community Foundation and served on the foundation's board. In 1969, Weyerhaeuser acquired Dierks Forests, in what was then one of the largest purchases of a timber company in U.S. history, and tapped Brown, one of the company's rising young executives, to serve as Corporate Vice President and Region Manager of the new Dierks Division. The purchase added 1.8 million acres to Weyerhaeuser's holdings of 2.8 million acres. Weyerhaeuser was the first Fortune 500 company to locate a regional office in Hot Springs. In World War II, Brown was called to military service as a major in the Army Chemical Warfare Service. He served four years, including service in the Philippines and with the occupation forces in Kobe, Japan. Brown returned to the United States and joined Wayerhaeuser in 1949 in Longview, Wash., a working relationship that would last three decades, until he retired in 1981, as Corporate Vice President and Region Manager of the Oklahoma Arkansas Dierks operation. He also served as chairman of the board of the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau. Speaking at Brown's retirement party in Hot Springs, company President George Weyerhaeuser praised his longtime employee as a man of "many firsts" for the company. " I have consistently given Joe the really tough assignments, and he has consistently performed in them," Weyerhaeuser said. He is survived by his wife; his son, Clif Brown and wife, Gay, and children, Preston and Emmy, of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; three daughters, Susan Wardell and her husband, Tom, and children, Sally Brooks, Gabriel and Leah Benzur, Tom, Charles and Catherine Wardell and Jessica Landis of Atlanta, Ga., Sallie Brown and her husband, Mark Pinsky, and children, Asher and Liza Brown-Pinsky of Orlando, Fla., and Barbara Brown of Atlanta; his brother, John Richard Brown of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a sister, Margaret Read of Canyon. Joe Brown was born in 1920 in the town of Hartley, in the Texas Panhandle, to farmer and rancher Joseph Clifford Brown and teacher Lucille Bishop Brown. The young man graduated first ( in a class of six) from Hartley High School and, at 16, earned a scholarship to Texas A&M University in College Station. At the university he served as an officer in the Army ROTC Cadet Corps and graduated second in his class with a degree in chemical engineering. He continued his studies at the Institute of Paper Chemistry at Lawrence College in Appleton, Wis., where he received master's and PhD degrees in paper chemistry. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by White Family Funeral Home. Kenne was born May 21, 1952, at Amarillo to Buck and Mary Elizabeth (Christy) Huneke. He married Angela Sutton on Dec. 25, 1995, at Bowie. He worked for 11 years at Federal Express. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church and loved working on his 1951 model Ford pickup. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bob Huneke. Survivors include his wife, "Angi"; his children, Jimmy Lee Huneke and Kayla McLain of Bowie; his in-laws, Joe and Mary Ann Sutton of Bowie; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Monte Sutton of Lewisville and Glen and Bobbie Joe Gamblin of Bellevue; his nieces, Zoe Alexandra and Sade Nicole Sutton; his grandmothers, Edith Marie Box and Opal Rolls; and a host of friends. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
