Elkins-Hester Shirley J. Elkins-Hester, 83, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Marty Hamrick of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Rev. Scott Richards of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Elkins-Hester was born Nov. 15, 1921, to Delmer and Jenny Powell. She graduated from Quitaque High School and Texas Tech Nursing School. She married Van Elkins in Lubbock in 1943. She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Elkins-Hester was a school nurse for more than 25 years. She worked at Austin, Margaret Wills and Palo Duro High School. In 1983 she married Walter Hester in Amarillo. Mrs. Elkins-Hester was an active volunteer, helping with Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizens and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Association). To her grandchildren she was known as "Mama Jo," and she will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her first husband and a daughter, Sara "Jan" Elkins. Survivors include her husband, Walter A. Hester; two daughters, Ann Dunavin and husband, Chester, of Amarillo and Lynn Elkins of Santa Fe, N.M.; and five grandchildren, Don, Colin, Tandy, Desirae and Deidra. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shirley A. Meador Shirley A. Meador, 81, of Amarillo died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005. A private graveside service for the family will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery. Following the private service will be an open memorial service at 10 a.m. in West Amarillo Christian Church with Jori Buchenau, pastor of Grace Through Faith Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Meador was born Aug. 28, 1924, to Arthur and Henrie Schawe in Reedville. She married Raymond L. Meador on Oct. 13, 1942, in Plainview. They moved to Amarillo in 1957. She worked at Sears for 37 years, retiring in 1985. She did not like the retired life, so she went to work for Sam's Club for 20 years, retiring in March 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Survivors include three daughters, Ann Willard and husband, Clebert, Jan Aufleger and husband, Larry, and Becky Manning and husband, Ed, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren, April Buchenau and husband, Jori, of Dumas, Tony Willard and wife, Cheryl, Clay Aufleger and wife, Kathy, Crystal Newburg and husband, Brandon, and Justin Manning, all of Amarillo; six great- grandchildren, Tavis Willard, Tyler Willard and Hayle Aufleger, all of Amarillo, Sydney Buchenau, Mccoy Buchenau, and Emory Buchenau, all of Dumas; and a sister, Dorothy Robertson and husband, Connie, of Fort Smith, Ark. Marshall, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, in Dallas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Emmanuel Church of God in Christ with Elder Elisha Demerson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Marshall was born April 4, 1920, in Clarksville, where she was reared and attended public school. She married Leon Marshall in Clarksville in 1936. The family moved to Amarillo in 1945. She died in Dallas where she had been for several years with her daughter. She was a member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 7, 1999. Survivors include three sons, Elbert Marshall of Denver, Jimmy Marshall of Sacramento, Calif., and Leon Marshall of Dallas; four daughters, Minnie Bowser of Amarillo, Ada Baldwin and Elizabeth Harper, both of Dallas, and Anna Baldwin of Denver; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great- great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harold "Joe" Short Harold "Joe" Short, 61, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with Bob Guillo, minister of Southwest Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Joe was born Feb. 22, 1944, in Erick, Okla. He moved to Amarillo, where he spent most of his life. He was in the drywall business for 44 years, eventually becoming a contractor. He had a great love for his children and family, and will be greatly missed by many. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, William Odis and Lela Grace Short. Survivors include four sons, Stoney Short and wife, Julie, of Mansfield, Scotty Short and fiance, Sharon, and William Scott, all of Amarillo, and Rodney Short of Grand Island, Neb.; two daughters, Lela Short of Lubbock, Mindy Birch and husband, Evan, of Amarillo; two brothers, Alvin Short and wife, Darlene, and Ronnie Short and wife, Lovera, all of Amarillo; a sister, Darlene Whitman of Kemah; five nephews, Russell, Jamie, Royse, Tracey and Todd; three nieces, Cammy, Larraine and Kelly; and 15 grandchildren. "Pat" Brandt, 62, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Church Alive with Mark Rector, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mrs. Brandt was born Dec. 5, 1942, in Rocky Ford, Colo. She graduated in Oleny Springs, Colo. She married Fred Brandt on May 31, 1961. She was an Avon salesperson for the past 25 years. She was a very giving person and enjoyed painting. She was a member of Church Alive. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 18, 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Mae Brandt of Houston; two sons, Joe Brandt and wife, Dianne, of Bradenton, Fla., and Mike Brandt of Amarillo; and a sister, Joyce Kearns of Canyon. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in South Georgia Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Miller, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Wood was born July 14, 1923, in Big Spring. She was raised in Knott, 10 miles north of Big Spring and graduated in 1941. She married J.T. Wood on Aug. 30, 1941. They moved to Amarillo in the 1940s. In 1947 she and her family moved to Hereford and surrounding Panhandle towns and moved back to Amarillo in 1957. She worked at Howard's Nursery and loved plants. After retirement she moved to Waller. In 2000 she moved back to Amarillo to be with her friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Danny Wood, on April 1, 1999; a grandson, Adam Wood, on July 3, 2000; her husband, J.T., on Dec. 26, 2003; two sisters, Mina Smith and Gertrude Unger; and a brother, Ray Cline. Survivors include a daughter, Candy Bradshaw and husband, Jimmy, of Gunnison, Colo.; a son, Jim Wood and wife, Sara, of Monroe, La.; a sister, Dorothy McKenzie of Big Spring; a brother, Robert Cline of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Mark Wood, Luke Bradshaw, Angie Shuttlesworth, Robert McDonald, Josh Wood and August Peterson; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memory Garden Cemetery in Pampa with the Rev. J.C. Burt officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Edwards was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Anthony, Kan. She married Kenneth E. Edwards on Nov. 23, 1943, in Perryton, where she was a lifetime resident. She was a rancher and a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Perryton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford S. and Edna Minnie Rethorst McGarraugh; and three brothers, Albert McGarraugh, Leroy McGarraugh and Neil McGarraugh. Survivors include a son, Garland Edwards and wife, Donna, of Perryton; and a granddaughter, Kathy Edwards of Pampa. Scott Steele officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Estes was born June 14, 1925, in Wister, Okla. He married Bettye O'Neal on Jan. 3, 1948, in Talihina, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a son, Bobby Estes of Borger; two daughters, Georgia Scott of Borger and Patsy Steele of Iligan City, Mindanao, Philippines; four brothers, Elwood Estes of Elk City, Okla., Linden Estes of Dumas, Coleman Estes of Bartlesville, Okla., and Winfred Estes of Wister; and five grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marvin D. "Lefty" Reynolds SHAMROCK - Marvin D. "Lefty" Reynolds, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, in Elk City, Okla. Services and burial will be at a later date in Fort Wayne, Ind. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors. Mr. Reynolds was born in Fort Wayne. He moved to Shamrock in 1998 to be near his son. Survivors include a son, Tim Reynolds of Shamrock. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mrs. Foote was born March 18, 1913, in Robert Lee. She married C.W. Foote on Nov. 5, 1933, in Clayton, N.M., and was a longtime Perryton resident. She graduated from O'Donnell High School in 1930 as valedictorian. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1934 with honors in mathematics. She was a school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Josephine Proett of Albuquerque, N.M., and Brenda Sheppard of San Antonio; a son, Curtis Foote of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Doris Gates Taylor of Wolfforth; five grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. Burial will be in The Garden of Hope in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Garland was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Eureka, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dean, on Sept. 11, 2005. Survivors include a son, Terry Garland and his wife, Terry, of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reuben Thomas Hall CHILDRESS - Reuben Thomas Hall, 95, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Childress Church of Christ with Greg Weston officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. Hall was born Aug. 30, 1910, in Sunset and moved to Childress in 1916. He was a carman for Burlington Northern Railway, a member of Childress Church of Christ and a member of the Burlington Northern Club. Survivors include a daughter, June Lott of Childress; a son, Thomas Hall of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Louis A. Henckel PLAINVIEW - Louis A. Henckel, 69, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, in Phoenix. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Paul Lutheran Church with Gerald Boerger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Henckel was born July 30, 1936, in Michigan City, Ind., to Naomi Anderson and Howard L. Henckel. He married Helen Louise Clemons on July 2, 1955, in Michigan City. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carmela F. Hill of Hart; a son, Louis A. Henckel Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Penny Ladra of Michigan City; his mother of Michigan City; and three grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steven J. Keksi DALHART - Steven J. Keksi, 23, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, in Amarillo. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. Mr. Snider retired from Cabot Carbon Co. in 1984 after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II from 1942 until 1945, and a member of Briarwood Full Gospel Church. Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Raulston of Pampa; a son, Donald Snider of Pampa; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel in Mannford by Mannford Funeral Home. Mr. Phillis was born Sept. 20, 1967, in Kansas City, Kan. He was self-employed as a plumber. Survivors include his wife, Debra Phillis; his children, Tabithia Phillis and Seth Phillis, both of Bristow, and Destiny Pauley of Drumright; his parents, Charles and Edith Phillis of White Deer, Texas; two sisters, Stacey Haiduk of White Deer and Danelle Kelso of Olathe, Kan.; a brother, Jim Coleman of Osawatomie, Kan.; and two grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homer Lee Watson GUYMON, OKLA. - Homer Lee Watson, 91, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elmhurst Cemetery with Stacy Ross, pastor of Northridge Free Will Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home. Mr. Watson worked in the oil field industry as a workover rig operator foreman with Gibbins-Slentz, which later became SAM's Well Servicing, retiring in 1982. He was married to Hazel Ione Crisp Watson for more than 69 years. Survivors include four children, Jim Watson of Norman, Mary Andis of Wheeler, Texas, Linda Bridges of Stillwater and Joe Watson of Guymon; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Raines of Muskogee. Peggram, 78, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, in Greeley. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Summit Baptist Church in Wiggins. Burial will be in Hoyt Cemetery in Hoyt by Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan. Mr. Peggram was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Quail, Texas, to Roy and Lola Peggram. He grew up east of Amarillo, Texas, and attended schools in Quail and McKnight, Texas. He graduated from Quail High School in 1944. He received his B.S. degree in agriculture from West Texas State University and his master's in counseling from Western State College. He taught school for 20 years while ranching and farming. He married Frances E. Gooch on June 2, 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Peggram lived in Wiggins for the last 31 years. He was a member of Summit Baptist Church in Wiggins. He enjoyed raising cattle, participating in and coaching sports and cheering for his children and grandchildren. His family was very important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Epple of Wiggins; three sons, Tim of Wiggins, Jody of Woodstock, Ga., and Bill of Hixson, Tenn.; a sister, Opal Camp of Dodson, Texas; two brothers, Jim of Canyon, Texas, and Gene of Amarillo; and 10 grandchildren. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
