Herndon CLAUDE - James "Jack" E. Herndon, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Davey, retired pastor of Pleasant Valley Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Herndon was born Oct. 22, 1918, to Roy and Josephine Herndon in Ocean, Mo. He was a Baptist. He grew up in Rodgers, Ark., but resided for many years in Tucumcari, N.M. He spent his last 30 years living in Amarillo. Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Bushong of Springfield, Mo.; and a longtime friend, Calvin Honea Jr. of Amarillo. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Virgil Simmons WHEELER - Virgil Simmons, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Wheeler Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Stiles, pastor of Allison Baptist Church in Allison, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Simmons was born May 26, 1929, to Jess D and Lou Hestell Simmons in Wheeler. He lived in Wheeler County all his life. He married Joann Abernethy on Aug. 11, 1950, in Silver Springs, Md. He was a farmer and also a private pilot, receiving his license in 1968. He loved to play dominoes. He loved his family and he loved his work. He was a Baptist. He served in the Air Force during the Korean campaign from 1948-1952. He attended and graduated from schools in Kelton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Louie Simmons. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve Simmons and wife, Lynda, of Bellview, Weldon Simmons and wife, Dolores, and Walter Simmons and wife, Debbie, all of Wheeler; a daughter Deleise Atwood of Amarillo; a daughter-in- law, Carla Simmons of McMinville, Ore.; a sister, Elwanda Gille and husband, John, of Littleton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Reynolds FORT WORTH - James "Jim" O. Reynolds, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005. Prayer services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Greenwood Funeral Home Garden Chapel. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi. Mr. Reynolds was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Comanche, Okla., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired at age 69 after serving as senior vice president in charge of estimating for Berry Contracting and was a member of United Auto Workers pipefitters and American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Crowder of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Mexico Fred B. Miller CLAYTON, N.M. - Fred B. Miller, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Clayton Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Hughes, pastor of First Christian Church in Texhoma, Okla., officiating. Arrangement are by Hass Funeral Directors. Mr. Miller was born Sept. 27, 1929, in Clayton to Bud Roger Miller and Octavia Mae Norman Miller. He worked for Colorado Interstate Gas Co. from 1948 to 1980, served on the REA Board and served 12 years as a Union County Commissioner. Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Miller of Seneca; two daughters, Cathy Mitchell and Jeanne Cope, both of Texhoma; a brother, Buck Miller of Clayton; a sister, Emmagene Grant of Clayton; four grandchildren; and 3 great- grandchildren.
