McMullin Nelda J. McMullin, 80, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. McMullin was born June 28, 1925, in Dallas. She graduated from Amarillo High School. She participated in PTA, Engineers Auxillary for the wives of SPS and Band Boosters at AHS. She was a member of First Christian Church where she taught preschool classes for many years. She married Ben McMullin in 1945 in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a son, John Edward McMullin; and two brothers, Don and John R. Jr. Survivors include her husband; and a son, Gary McMullin of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Margaret Thurston Margaret Thurston, 74, of Amarillo died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville, Ind., with Garry Evans officiating. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Mrs. Thurston was born June 11, 1931, in Rushville to Virgil Elder Sr. and Luella Ogden. She married Lowell Thurston on Dec. 12, 1999. Survivors include a son, William R. Harrison of Naples, Fla.; five daughters, Billie Faye Fox of Montana, Mary Garner of Waldron, Ind., Tina Harrison of Naples, Helena Scott of Alabama and Carla Stout of Rushville; four stepsons, Jeff Hankins, James "Rusty" Hankins and Brett Hankins, all of Shelbyville, Ind., and Randy Hankins of Michigan City, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Cheri Warrick of Westport, Ind.; two brothers, Virgil Elder Jr. and Roy Elder, both of Rushville; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- J.W. "Dick" Whitehead J.W. "Dick" Whitehead, 89, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Valleyview Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Wayne Hicks of First Church of the Nazarene of Arlington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Whitehead was born March 9, 1916, in Roby to Jim and Ada Whitehead. He married Lucille Mann on Aug. 1, 1938. They have celebrated 67 years of marriage. Mr. Whitehead served in the U.S. Army during World War II. For more than 43 years he was a car salesman. He began selling Studebakers, and then worked for Plains Chevrolet and Ray Jones Chevrolet. He was a member of Valleyview Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife, Lucille Whitehead; a son, Richard Whitehead and wife, Connie, of Amarillo; two sisters, Lucy Whitehead of Abilene and Pearl Celey of Tucson, Ariz.; and a nephew, Gary Mann of Lake Tanglewood. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Carolyn Elizabeth Whitworth Hamilton CLARENDON - Carolyn Elizabeth Whitworth Hamilton, 90, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Garmon, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Hamilton was born June 29, 1915, in Beaumont and moved to Clarendon 37 years ago. She married Clarence Leroy Hamilton on Nov. 23, 1938, in Hale Center. Mrs. Hamilton was affectionately known as "Slim," "Mother, "Nanny," "Mrs. Hamilton," "Sis" and "Aunt Sis." She attended Texas Tech and was a teacher and writer. She belonged to many organizations including Fun After 50, the first Senior Citizens of Clarendon, Koshari Sorority and Panhandle Pen Women. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by and joining her loving husband, Clarence Hamilton; a grandson, B.J. Hamilton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Whitworth; and a brother, H.C. Whitworth. Mrs. Caviness was a resident of Mobeetie for the past 10 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mobeetie and was a nurseís aide. Survivors include two sons, Samuel M. Britton and James M. Britton, both of Pampa; a daughter, Belinda Strong of Pasadena; two sisters, Samantha Burt of Paris and Mattie Husted of Garland; two brothers, Burlyn Allison of Fate and Robert Allison of Powderly; and two granddaughters. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Artie Wreathel Green HEREFORD - Artie Wreathel Green, 85, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005. Mrs. Green was born July 20, 1920, in Quay County, N.M., to Ben and Nellie Morrison. She married Estel Green on Sept. 6, 1939, in Portales. Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Ator of Pflugerville; a brother, Vernon Morrison of Portales; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Foster Elder PAMPA - Dr. J. Foster Elder, 87, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Taylor, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Dr. Elder was born Oct, 24, 1918, in Avery. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas where his accomplishments included election to the presidency of the SAE fraternity, and earning the starting quarterback position his senior year. After injuries sustained in a serious automobile accident derailed a planned professional football career, Foster attended medical school. He earned his MD with the first graduating class of Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1944. Dr. Elder proudly served in the Army medical corps in the European Theater during World War II. There he met Rae Royall, whom he married on Oct. 3, 1946, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Wartime service was followed by surgical training at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. At the completion of his medical training in 1948, Dr. Elder moved his family to Pampa and established his medical practice. He tirelessly served Pampa residents for more than 40 years, earning the love and admiration of his patients. Dr. Elder was a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Practice, and was a former member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He was a Methodist. During his retirement, Dr. Elderís attentions were occupied by his passion for golf and by his cow and calf operation near Mobeetie, which his family referred to as "Fosterís Folly." Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Rae Elder; his children John, Stacey and Janice; his grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Tyra, Ann, Beth, Helen and Margaret; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe with Deacon Daniel Chavez, Richard Gomez, and Bobby Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Carrasco was born June 15, 1955, to Augustine and Maltilde Silva Carrasco in Clovis. He worked for the railroad and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Light House Mission. Survivors include a son, Jack Aston Carrasco of Mountain Home, Utah; six brothers, Hank Carrasco of Scottsdale, Ariz., Phillip Carrasco and Charles Carrasco, both of Clovis, Augie Carrasco and Anthony Carrasco, both of Round Rock, Texas, and Joseph Carrasco of Midland; and five sisters, Penny Sanchez of Albuquerque, Francine Garcia, Felicia Joy and Dorothy Carrasco, all of Clovis, Elena Corrales of Midland. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oklahoma Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Parker BOISE CITY, Okla. - Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Parker, 82, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2005. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Boise City Cemetery with John Henley officiating. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary. Mrs. Parker was born July 2, 1923, in Bishop, Calif., to Arthur and Beulah Kelley. She worked in the local hospital for nearly 30 years and was her happiest taking care of the patients. Survivors include two children, Jim Kelley and Nancy Crawford, both of Boise City; a grandson, Michael Crawford; a sister, Olive Russell of California; and a brother, Lewis Kelley of Arizona. Burial will be in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park by Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Stephen was born in 1950 in Pampa. He was a proud TCU graduate who dearly loved his wife and sons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Arkie Walls of Pampa. Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 years, Diane; two sons, Jordan and Chad and wife, Amie; a granddaughter, Taylor (due any day); two brothers, G.M. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Allen Brothers Mortuary Vista Chapel in Vista. Dan Nelse Dean was born Jan. 30, 1929, and welcomed into the gates of heaven by the Lord Jesus and his angels Nov. 4, 2005. Dan was a Navy veteran, a husband, father and brother. He was a wonderful human being who will be sorely missed. Survivors include three daughters, Debra Dean of Amarillo, Texas, Dena Dean and Ruth Hebert; a granddaughter, Stacy Hebert of San Diego; a brother and sister-in-law, Zack and Aurelia Dean; a sister, Neoma Harper of Amarillo; and his best friend, Cupertino Vasquez.
