Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Oasis Southwest Baptist Church with Alfonso Mejia officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Mirelez was born Dec. 12, 1950, in Haskell to Benito and Lydia Mirelez. He married Irene Ybarra on May 15, 1993, in Amarillo. He worked as a salesman in the grocery business. He was a member of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; a son, Julian Mirelez of Amarillo; four sisters, Silvia Ramirez and Nancy Olguin, both of Abernathy, Teresita Valdez of Clovis, N.M., and Anita Moreno of Canyon; two brothers, Benito Mirelez of Houston and Gilbert Mirelez of Canyon; eight nephews; six nieces; four grandnieces; and four grandnephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lavinia Ruth Adams Lavinia Ruth Adams, 93, of Amarillo died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in San Jacinto Church of Christ with Delbert McLoud, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Lavinia was born Aug. 24, 1912, between Happy Hollar and Scratch Out near Decatur to John Thomas and Cordelia Ables. Her family had a cotton farm between Leslie and Lakeview. She graduated from Leslie High School and married Cone J. Adams on July 2, 1928, in Lakeview. They had two daughters. Cone and Lavinia were engaged in cotton farming in Hall County near Memphis and Lakeview during the early years of their life together. In 1940 they moved to Phillips and in 1943 to Borger. Lavinia worked for several years as the manager of the Borger Dairy Queen. She started her career as a sales person at JCPenney. She later worked at Dean's Ladies Ready-to-Wear store in Borger before becoming the manager of Franklin's Ladies Store for 11 years. In 1970 she became the manager of the Franklin's Store at Western Plaza in Amarillo where she worked until she retired in 1983 at the age of 70. Cone and Lavinia were the founders of the women's softball team, The Borger Bees, which lasted from the early 1940s through the 1960s. Cone coached and managed the team which was made up of teenagers, housewives and working women. Lavinia played second base on the team for years. The team played in Oklahoma, the Texas Panhandle, and in South Texas. They competed in the State Womenės Softball Tournament in Austin and placed third in the state in Galveston. Lavinia was baptized in 1938 at the Memphis Church of Christ. She was a member of the 2nd and Deahl and Gardner Street Churches of Christ in Borger and the San Jacinto Church of Christ in Amarillo. She had been an Amarillo resident for the past 35 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Oscar, Lonnie and Emmitt Ables; and a sister, Ruby Thompson. Survivors include a sister, Nellie Miller of Ravenna; two daughters, Bobby Joyce Beaty of Amarillo and Glenda Ruth Adams of Lakewood, Colo.; grandchildren, Mark and Cindy Beaty of Minneapolis, Thomas and Glyna Beaty Ratliff of Timbercreek Canyon; six great-grandchildren, Lori Lyn, Delanie Beaty and Derek, Michelle, Rebecca and David Ratliff; a number of nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law. She touched many people's lives with her own special light. Louise, the oldest of nine children, was born on Jan. 27, 1919, in Channing to Van and Lena White. She was very artistic and loved to paint. She was also an exceptional seamstress. Louise was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Bradley, in 1984; her second husband, Glenn Brashear, in 1997; and her granddaughter, Venetia Bradley. Survivors include a son, Norman Bradley and wife, Shirley; a grandson, Larry Bradley and wife, Claudia; two great-granddaughters, Melanie and Anna Bradley, all of Lubbock; a stepson, Paul Bradley of San Diego; three sisters, Pauline Mills of Dalhart and Dorothy Brown and Billie Young, both of Amarillo; a brother, Harvey White and wife, Sue, of Hobbs, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bovina Cemetery in Bovina with George McNabb officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Byler was born in Claude and had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. He served with the Navy during World War II and served in Iwo Jima. Mr. Byler was a roadgrader driver for Amarillo Road Co. and had been described by a highway engineer as the best blade man in Texas. He retired in 1982. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman; and a daughter, Pamela Jean. Survivors include his loving wife, Katherine Byler of Amarillo; a son, Johnny Byler of Irving; a daughter, JoAnn Johnson of Fort Worth; a brother, Bill Byler of Boise, Idaho; a sister, Helen Preston of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Craig Byler, J'Layne Mayfield, Kate Forsythe and John Robert Byler; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Garay was born June 24, 1934, in El Chamizal, Mexico, to Luis Garay and Merced Chacon Garay. He married Bertha Chacon in Mexico on Jan. 20, 1964. He moved to Amarillo 10 years ago from Odessa. He was a retired farmer. He was always an honest, stoic person who loved to spend time with his grandchildren, and they called him "Papa Juan." He was a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. Survivors include his wife; seven daughters, Graciela Mendoza of Dallas, Irma Chacon of Salt Lake City, Edelia Gonzalez of Oklahoma City and Clara Ruiz, Teresa Escudero, Lily Fernandez and Monica Sanchez, all of Amarillo; two sons, Juan Garay and Jaime Garay, both of Amarillo; a sister, Pilar Garay of Chihuahua, Mexico; three brothers, Rosendo Garay and Ezequiel Garay, both of Mexico, and Eladio Garay of Barstow; and 21 grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elizabeth Waggoner Elizabeth Waggoner, 87, of Amarillo died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005. Georgia St. Mrs. Waggoner was born in Knox City and graduated from high school in Knox City. Her profession was her family. She was an active member of former TED and Antique Club. She married Leonard C. Waggoner in Camp Polk, La., on Jan. 3, 1944. She was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ and a Bible study teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wilson and Rosa Smith Wilson; a sister, Ethyl Mae Wilson; and two brothers, Dr. Jack Wilson and Chad Wilson. Survivors include her husband; a daughter Rosalyn Boatman and husband, Joe, of Boulder, Colo.; two sons, Don R. Waggoner and wife, Frances, of Houston and Jon R. He married Louise McKeever on Aug. 22, 1937, in Perryton. Mr. Pearson was a dedicated man who served as a longtime minister in the Church of Christ in the Panhandle area. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lynn of Amarillo and Gary of Duncan, Okla.; a sister Thaylia Boxley of Ponca City, Okla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Gerogia St. Mrs. Stater was born March 20, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Arthur and Bertha Truitt. She married Jack R. Stater on Dec. 31, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa. They moved to Amarillo in 1982. Mrs. Stater enjoyed creative cooking for her family and friends. She was her family's inspiration, and to know her was to love her. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Douglas. She was a member of a pioneer family and worked in a garment factory and the cotton farm. She married Henry August Phsigoda on Sept. 5, 1939, in Shattuck. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Perryton. She was preceded in death by her husband and a baby daughter. Mrs. Salazar was born August 28, 1953 in Del Rio the daughter of Isabel and Domingo Pena Sr. She married Reggie Salazar Sr. on June 26, 1971 in Hereford. Mrs. Salazar was employed as a teachers aide for 25 years with the Hereford Independent School District and was a member of Iglesia Catolica De San Jose in Hereford. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Maria Guadualupe Balderaz. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Reggie Salazar Jr. and wife, Van, of Dallas, Juan-Simon Salazar who is serving as an Army Ranger and Jesus-Riley Salazar of Hereford; two daughters, Minerva Ranee Salazar and Melinda Ann Salazar, both of Hereford; her mother, Isabel C. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher for 50 years and loved to rope. He married Dolores Wright on Aug. 19, 1950, in Raton, N.M. He was a veteran of the Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Jerry Jones, in 1993. Patricia Ann Bunger was born Dec. 5, 1951, to Maurice and Margaret Bunger in Rock Island, Ky., and worked in munitions supplies for the Air Force for 21 years and then retired. She loved bowling, shooting, fishing, animals, and camping. Graveside services will be a noon Monday in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with the Rev. Tom Garmon, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Clarendon, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Gattis was born May 31, 1939, in Memphis to Thomas and Ruby Gattis. He grew up and spent the first part of his life in Brice before moving to Dallas 35 years ago. He was married to his beloved wife, Sandi Cannon Gattis, for 28 years. Mr. Gattis also served in the Army from the years of 1962 to 1963. He was employed by Baxter & Sons Elevator Co. and was head of the construction department and also served as an elevator mechanic as well. He was also a member of the VFW post in Garland, where he has been a member for several years. He was also a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Gattis, on Sept. 5, 1999. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Liz DeLorge of Irving, Mela Knight of Garland, Shanna Nelson and Jesica Gattis, both of Rockwall, and Shelvia Gattis and Gelvia Gattis, both of Dallas; a son, Joe Gattis of College Station; a sister, Mary Ida of North Carolina; and seven grandchildren.
