Alver DALHART - Ivan D. Alver, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lakeview United Methodist Church with Jim Stevens, president of Texico Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church of Albuquerque, N.M., officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Alver was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Spring Valley, Minn., to Ingvald and Bergitta “Connie” Iverson Alver. He was raised in Minnesota. Ivan graduated from Grand Meadow High School, Grand Meadow, Minn., and attended Union College and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Ivan married Kathie Heidtke in August 1965 and farmed in the Claremont, Minn., area before moving with their family and Ivan’s parents to Dalhart in 1977. In 2002, Ivan received the Lily for Life 50 Year Insulin Award, an award to recognize people with diabetes who have been on insulin for at least 50 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Alver; his father; and a sister, Esther Mayer. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Sheldon Alver and wife, Michelle, of Soda Springs, Idaho, Brian Alver and wife, Tracy, of Dalhart and Justin Alver and wife, Amy, of Farmington, Minn.; and his mother of Dalhart. Debbie graduated from Guymon High School in 1975 and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a music education degree in 1979. She was united in marriage to Steve Long on Aug. 18, 1977, in Guymon. She was an active and giving member of her church and community. She shared her talents by teaching junior high Sunday school, singing in the choir and ringing and leading bell choirs at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church and was active in United Methodist Women. Debbie also gave to the community. She had remained involved in school volunteering, served on the American Red Cross board and was a member of P.E.O., Chapter FQ. Debbie had recently been honored as 2005 Beta Sigma Phi Woman of the Year. She was also a loving and treasured daughter, wife, mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her father in 2001 and a brother-in-law, Homer Phillip Long in 1989.
