Bowles Richard E. Bowles, 75, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with the Rev. Dan Shaeffer officiating. Mr. Bowles was born Sept. 21, 1930. He was a welder in construction and served in the Navy. Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Wood and Donna Wachter, both of Amarillo, and Gail Jaimie and Cherie Sturgill, both of Bandera. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- E. Lorene Elder E. Lorene Elder, 83, of Amarillo died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jerry Veazy of Harvest Life Church officiating. Mrs. Elder was born July 30, 1922, in Panhandle. She was active in Harvest Life Church, formerly Forest Hill Assembly of God Church, for many years. Cody was born Aug. 20, 1965, in Amarillo and was raised in Vega and Amarillo. He was a graduate of River Road High School. He married Karen Daniels on July 7, 1984, in Amarillo. He was project manager for Toro in the irrigation division. He worked in the irrigation industry for 25 years. He lived in Southlake for 18 years, returning to Amarillo in 2004. Cody loved his family, friends, riding bulls, hunting, and fishing. He also loved his African gray parrot - Mollie and his three "Grand-Pups," Punkin, Charlie and Putter. Survivors include his wife, Karen of Amarillo; a daughter, Kristen Renee' Hobbs of Amarillo; a son, Kyle Ray Hobbs of Amarillo; his parents, Bill and Sharon Hobbs of Amarillo; a sister, Catherine Hobbs of Amarillo; a brother, Patrick Cliff Hobbs of Southlake; his grandmother, Beth Price of Amarillo; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Joyce Daniels of Amarillo. Cody is also survived by many uncles, aunts, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of neighbors and friends all over the tri-state area. Mr. Tran was a nail technician and a member of Our Lady of Vietnam Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Nga Thi Le; his mother, Hoant Thi Don of Amarillo; and a brother, Michael Tran of Brooklyn, N.Y. Viewing will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ernest Franklin Sipes Ernest Franklin Sipes, 89, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Richards officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by DAV Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Sipes was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Madill, Okla., to Walter and Emmer Sipes. At an early age he moved with his family to Canadian. He attended schools in Canadian. Ernest was an active member of the Harmony Sunday school class at Trinity United Methodist Church. At an early age, Ernest began working with his father in the building business. He became an excellent carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union 665 all of his working life. If he could "think it," he could build it. During the Depression, he worked all over the Panhandle area. He built most of the Amphitheater in Palo Duro Canyon. He also built the B-52 docks at the Amarillo Air Force Base in the early '60s. In May 1978, he was voted the "Craftsman of the Year" by the Construction Specification Institute. This was "In Recognition of his Superior Workmanship of Interior Carpentry and Mill Work" in the St. Francis Convent Chapel in Amarillo. Ernest married Ruby Blackman on Feb. 19, 1944, at the Polk Street United Methodist Church parsonage. Soon after, Ernest was called into the service of his country. He was placed in Company K, 390 Infantry 75th Div. 4th Platoon. After 16 weeks of training, he was assigned to Belgium. Ernest was an Ammunition Bearer Gunner for 60mm Mortars. He served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theater Campaigns. He received the Bronze Star, Infantry Combat Badge and several other medals. After the war ended in Europe, the 7th Infantry Division was sent home to the United States to go to Japan. The 75th Division was given a short leave to visit their families. While Ernest was on leave, the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan and the war ended. Ernest came home to children, Sam Sipes, 5 years old, Tony Sipes, 3 years old, and Jo Ellen, 10 months old. She was the daughter he had never seen except through pictures. Ernest and Ruby retired in 1978. During their retirement they traveled with family and friends, camping and fishing. Ernest became a "Rock Hound" and traveled all over the country and almost to Alaska picking up rocks. He cut and polished them and made beautiful jewelry. He will be terribly missed by all his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; two sons, Sam Sipes of El Paso and Tony Sipes of Amarillo; a daughter, Jo Ellen Marshall of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Mark Sipes of Murphysboro, Ill., Matt Marshall of Vega, Amy Huddleston of Amarillo; Allison Barcena, Chris, Brent and Elyse Sipes, all of El Paso, and Jon Sipes of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Katee and Kooper Huddleston of Amarillo; a sister, Ethyl Liles of Mesquite; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Osage St. Mr. Poling was an Army veteran of World War II and was with the Pantex Fire Department for 27 years. He was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ. Ruth Finke was born on March 8, 1926, in Albia, Iowa, to Warren and Bertha Heller Fisher. She went to Ottumwa High School in Iowa and later attended Draughons Business School. She married Fred L. Finke in 1947 at College Station. She and her husband Fred have lived in Canyon and Amarillo for 45 years. She was a member of University Church of Christ. Ruth will be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Forest and Don Fisher. Survivors include her husband; two sons, David L. Finke and wife, Regina, of Canyon and Daren L. Finke of Dallas; two brothers, Bill Fisher of Monroe, Iowa, and Max Fisher of Blakesburg, Iowa; and four grandchildren. Dude was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Lubbock. She lived most of her life on a ranch in Justiceburg. She moved to Dimmitt in 1982. She was a rancher, author, artist and avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud McLaurin in 1965; and a sister, Mary Cross. On Feb. 3, 1946, Mrs. Donaldson married Dr. Joe R. Donaldson in Boswell, and they moved to Pampa in 1949. Mr. Grogan was born Nov. 14, 1939, in El Centro, Calif. He married Ada Gayle McCain on Feb. 26, 1960. Box 470, Borger, TX, 79008. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barbara C. Edwards TULIA - Barbara C. Edwards, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, in Midland. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley and the Rev. Richard Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Edwards was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Erick, Okla., to C.H. and Maggie Lowe. In 1922 her family moved to Tulia, where she was raised, graduating from Tulia High School in 1937. She attended West Texas Teachers College (now WTA&M) in Canyon, receiving a degree in Home Economics in 1941. Following graduation, she taught Home Economics in Petersburg and San Jon, N.M. She and Walter H. Edwards were married on May 15, 1942, in her parents' home in Canyon. They lived in California while Walter was stationed there during World War II. When Walter went overseas, she moved back to Tulia where they lived and raised their family after Walter was discharged from the service. Walter died Jan. 17, 1981. In Tulia, Barbara taught Vocational Homemaking in the Tulia ISD until she retired. She was active in the Texas State Teachers Association and the Homemaking Teachers state organization. Barbara was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tulia for many years and she was an active member of the Friendship Class. In addition, she was a member of the United Methodist Women serving as an officer at the local, district and conference levels. Active in the United Methodist Church wherever she lived, she had joined St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland after moving to Midland in August 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Edwards; her parents, C.H. and Maggie Lowe; two brothers, James and Herschel Lowe; three sisters, Mildred Avent, Naomi Rogers and Gladys McBeth; and one grandson, Michael Edwards. Survivors include her sons and their wives, Master Sgt. Roger L. Edwards (serving in the National Guard in Iraq) and Brenda of Plainview, the Rev. Richard W. Edwards and Jo Beth of Midland and Bryan L. Edwards and Pam of Tulia; two sisters, Lucille Dean of Aberdeen, Wash., and Juanita Glass of Sun City Center, Fla.; a brother, retired Col. Ted Lowe and wife, Elizabeth of College Station. Gum on June 3, 1946, in Tulsa and they moved to Guymon where they made their home. She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Kelton to James Zebulin and Ora Itura Slaughter Baird. She was a homemaker and a member of First Methodist Church of Sudan. She was our beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Wayne E. Rogers of Dallas; a son, Monte V. Rogers of Houston; a daughter, Gaylene Rogers Lonergan of Dallas; a granddaughter, Gwyneth Rogers Lonergan of Dallas; and a sister, Loraine Wagner of Plainview. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
