"Bill" Poole Jr. William A. "Bill" Poole Jr., 78, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Richards of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Poole was born April 30, 1927, in Silverton to William and Mattie Lee Poole. He married Doris Marie Morrison on Sept. 2, 1954, in Clovis, N.M. They moved to Denver. He was in the real estate business in Estes Park, Colo. They moved to Goodnight, where he raised horses and farmed. He bred registered appaloosa horses for more than 40 years. Mr. Poole was preceded in death by a sister, Helen McCain. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carole Poole and Pamela Haas, both of Amarillo; two sons, Joe Charles Poole and wife, Lucy Lee, of Hedley and Forrest Poole of Amarillo; a brother, Bob Poole of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Albert, Crystal, Jennifer, David, Amanda and Megan; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Arguelles was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Mexico. He married Candida Davila on Oct. 21, 1984, in Matamoros, Mexico. Mrs. Clifton was born Jan. 17, 1915, to Arthur H. and Essie Burns Reed in Paris. She married Howard Clifton on Dec. 14, 1934, in Childress. Survivors include two daughters, Helen Thompson of Arlington and Sharon Robinson of Hurst; two sons, Grady Clifton of Choctaw, Okla., and Larry Clifton of Vernon; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Mooney of Childress. The family suggests memorials be to Tipton Children's Home in Tipton, Okla. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joyce Ardell Donathan WILDORADO - Joyce Ardell Donathan, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Palo Duro Baptist Church, 7 miles south of Wildorado, with the Rev. Steve Leavitt, his grandson, officiating. There will be a military service at Palo Duro Memorial Cemetery with Ron Mueller officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. "Ardell" or "Dell," as many knew him, was born in Floydada to Frank and Elizabeth Donathan and was one of 14 children. He married Berniece Evans in 1941 and they shared 64 wonderful years together. He worked at the smelter in Amarillo until he was drafted into the service in 1943. He served in the Far East Air Force in Guam, The Philippines, Layte, and Luzon before returning from service in 1946. He then farmed in the Plainview area until settling east of El Paso. As one of the first "homesteaders" in the area, the town of Dell City was named after him. In 1954 he moved back to Amarillo and worked for the Post Office and farmed. In 1961 Ardell, Berniece, Delores and Kenny moved to Wildorado to farm. In 1972 he was appointed Postmaster at Vega where he retired in 1984. He continued to work for himself and others farming, mowing for the county, helping harvest, planting grass, ditching, working on his home and vacation home, and making furniture and crafts. He loved building things for his grandkids and great-grandkids, and they all loved their "Dell." He was always there when someone needed him. He was preceded in death by a son, Winfred Dell; and numerous brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Berniece; two children, Delores Richards and husband, John, of Fredericksburg and Kenny Donathan and wife, Dianna, of Wildorado; six grandchildren, Shannon Leavitt and wife, Debbie, of Wildorado, Steve Leavitt and wife, Marty, of New Braunfels, Shalene Johnson and husband, William, of Ponder, Angeline George and husband, Douglas, and Dina Pendergrass and husband, Tyler, all of Amarillo, and Jenny Ansaldo and husband, Douglas, of Boerne; four sisters, Oleta Elkins of Amarillo, Virgie Leatherman of Milsap, Bernice Lewis of Collinsville, and Pernie Leatherman of Floydada; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends. Tyler St., Amarillo, TX 79107. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edith Marie Hager Hataway Steddum SUNRAY - Edith Marie Hager Hataway Steddum, 90, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday in Church of Christ of Sunray with the Rev. H.L. Stevens, retired Assembly of God minister, officiating, assisted by Carl Mutschler, longtime family friend. Burial was in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Steddum was the youngest of eight children born to Dan and Sally Adeline "Addie" Hager on Oct. 15, 1915, in Auglaize County, Ohio. Edith moved with her family in 1918, at the age of 3, to settle in the Texas Panhandle near Texhoma, where the land was plentiful, economical and bountiful. The Hager family enjoyed their new lives until the Dust Bowl days of the '30s made farming a difficult occupation. In the year 1933, the lovely Edith Hager married Homer Jay Hataway and settled near Stratford, where they continued the effort of growing crops but the wind blew constantly and the lack of rain caused the family to seek other employment. In Moore County, near Sunray, they were building gasoline refineries and carbon black plants, so they moved once again in the year 1936 to Sunray and settled down to raise seven children. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Sunray and continued to live a Christian life. She was known for her sweet personality, kind disposition and for helping those "older" friends and acquaintances unable to help themselves. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters; her husband, Homer Hataway; and her second husband, Paul Steddum. Survivors include seven children, Harold Homer Hataway and Jim Hataway, both of Sunray, Donald Dale Hataway of Joplin, Mo., Darlene Keeton of Enid, Okla., Joe Hataway of Perryton, Coleen Seright of Amarillo and Marlene Irwin of Newcastle, Okla.; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 12 great- great-grandchildren.
