Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Ken Ball, pastor of Perryton Community Church, and the Rev. Graham Harvey, pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista, officiating. Military rites will be by DAV Chapter No. 26. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Archie was born July 24, 1922, in Wellington. He served in the U.S. Army in the Rainbow Division and fought in World War II. He worked for Pantex for 34 years. He was a fixture at the Tri-State Fair where he had a food booth selling nut bars and deep-fried ice cream for 47 years. He helped make many children smile while he owned and operated Archie's Sno Ball Stand for many years. He married Lillian Hawkins on July 6, 1941. He was known by his loving family as "Pawpaw." He was deeply devoted to spending time with his family, especially his wife. He loved to collect hats and walking canes, but nothing compares to his love of traveling. He and his wife traveled extensively. They enjoyed spending their winters in the valley and their springs in Canada and Alaska. And the trips with their grandkids were even more special to them. He was preceded in death by a brother, Pressley Ashton. Coulter St. Mrs. Kelly was born Feb. 12, 1911, in Mountian Park, Okla., and had been the owner and operator of Peter Pan Laundry and Cleaners for more than 40 years. She moved to El Paso to live with her son, Jo Bob, and his wife, Lydia. Survivors include four sons, Steve Kelly and wife, Peggy, Jo Bob Kelly and wife, Lydia, of El Paso, Patrick Kelly and wife, Yvonne, and Mike Kelly and wife, Roseanne, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Carol Sue Napier and husband, Clayton, of Hamilton, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and several great- grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Louis A. Finney Dr. Louis A. Finney, 74, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with the Rev. G.A. Roach officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Dr. Finney was born Aug. 14, 1931, in St. Louis to Louis and Phyllis Finney. He was raised in Chicago, and graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1952 with a BA in biology. He then graduated from John Hopkins University in 1956 with a medical degree. Dr. Finney had a private practice in Amarillo as a neurosurgeon from 1964 to 1987. He was the Chief Medical Officer of Amarillo Military Entrance Processing from 1988 until 1991, then for the Denver Military Entrance Program from 1991 until 1995 and served as the Deputy Command Surgeon U.S. Medical Processing Command in 1995. After retiring from neurosurgery, he moved to London, England, and received a MS in clinical tropical medicine in 1988 from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He was a captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring in 1991. During active duty, he worked at the Naval Hospital in Chelsea, Mass., from 1958 to 1961. He also was a 6th Fleet Command Surgeon in Naples, Italy, for a brief time in 1988. He married Cynthia Collum on Oct. 10, 1997, in Canyon. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Collum Finney and their son Ian Harris Finney. They are also expecting another son in January 2006; three daughters, Claudia Finney and husband, Aaron Wilson, of Irvine, Calif., Lorie Finney and husband, Ted Spack, of Mountain View, Calif., and Irene Finney and husband, Kevin Jones, of Morehead City, N.C.; five sons, Louis Finney and wife, Rose, of Clarendon Hills, Ill., Redding Finney of Rockville, Md., Richard Finney of Bethesda, Md., Bennett Finney and wife, Sheila, of Crofton, Md., and Perry Finney and wife, Janice, of Kensington, Md.; and a special cousin, Donna Hose of O'Fallon, Mo. Box 932, Lexington, VA 24450. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deward Walker Deward Walker, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Roger Hubbard, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Walker was born June 14, 1916, in Montague to Boda and Mary Walker. His family moved to Paducah, by way of covered wagon in 1921, where he graduated high school. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943, and was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1949 Mr. Walker went into the insurance business, and remained with Great American Reserve Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1984. He married his wife of 68 years, Lorene Duffey, in 1937. He and his wife built a home in Lake Tanglewood in 1967, and resided there until 2003. While living there he was active in many different community activities including the Lake Tanglewood Lions Club, where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 1995, and was a charter member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. He was a Mason since 1946, and a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was a great person, and respected by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and seven brothers. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Walker of Amarillo; a son, Dave Walker of Lubbock; a grandson, Derrick Walker and wife, Angela, of Bangs; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite local charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bobbie Ruth LaFleur Bobbie Ruth LaFleur, 65, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. LaFleur was born Feb. 19, 1940, in Amarillo and was raised in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School. She married Johnny LaFleur in 1962. She worked at TG&Y for 29 years before she retired in 1989. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed supporting her grandkids at their sporting activities. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; and her parents, Robert W. and Modina Stone. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Ioor was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Amarillo to Willis and Vera Aline Thornton. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. She married Donnell Ioor on Sept. 13, 1951, in San Jacinto Methodist Church. Mrs. Ioor worked as an Avon representative for 39 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Amarillo Area Corvette Club and Covenant Fellowship Church. Mrs. Ioor was a talented china painter. She had a tender heart for animals of all kinds and loved them all. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. For 54 years she was a devoted, loving wife and partner to her husband. Survivors include her husband, Donnell Ioor; and special friends, Gary and Sharon Pilgrim and Mark and Kathy Britain, all of Amarillo. "Mrs. Mac" McElwany Leona L. "Mrs. Mac" McElwany, 93, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Second Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Jones officiating. "Mrs. Mac" McElwany, a wonderful and adored mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. Leona was born July 13, 1912, to Honest James and Ozie Selman in Hubbert. She married Howard "Rusty" McElwany on Sept. 6, 1937, in Amarillo. "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven." Leona knew what her purpose in life was, and that was to love and nurture her family and those who knew her. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and especially adored her grandchildren who called her "Meme." Her love of children spilled over into her everyday life. She was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church, caring and teaching in the nursery for 52 years where she was known as "Mrs. Mac." In every season of her life, she remained true to her spirit and character as a loving woman of God. Leona was an avid game player and especially loved the company of her grandchildren and friends while she played. Her favorite spot during the last few years of her wonderful life were spending time on her son's patio at his lake home soaking in the sun, laughter of the children and the beauty of God's world. Her spirit will always live in our hearts and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Inez Brandon; and a brother, J.D. Selman. Survivors include a son, Ken J. Brown and wife, Barbara, of Amarillo; a daughter, Delores Stone and husband, Roy of Plano; a brother, Robert Selman of San Antonio; seven grandchildren, D'Lynn Chaney, Dyann Folkner, Wes Brown, Kay Venable, Kenny Stone, Roy Lee Stone and Lori Mulkey; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Ortiz, 67, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Rex Nicholl officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. Ortiz was born May 19, 1938. He moved to Amarillo in 1979 from Colorado Springs, Colo. He married Rose Gonzales on Sept. 21, 1960, in Lubbock. Mr. Ortiz was a retired Chef. Mr. Ortiz was a religious man, loved being around his family and was a very outgoing man. He was always happy and talked to everyone, even if he didn't know them. He also loved cars, bingo and Lotto. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Linda Hernandez, Ester Esparza, MaryAnn Garcia, Nancy Madron and Mary Helen Ortiz, all of Amarillo; two sons, Joe Ortiz Jr. and Rickie Ortiz, both of Amarillo; a sister, Santos Lara of Lubbock; two brothers, Raul Ortiz and Lupe Ortiz, both of Lubbock; 26 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fay Snider Fay Snider, 70, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Private family burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Snider was born April 10, 1935, in Fabens and was a graduate of Big Spring High School in Big Spring. She received her associate degree in nursing from Amarillo College and her B.S.N. from West Texas State School of Nursing. She was a resident of Amarillo for more than 30 years. Mrs. Snider worked as a nurse for more than 40 years. She worked at the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo for 17 years, retiring in 2002. She married Wayne Snider in 1985 in Amarillo. Fay loved to travel and enjoyed her association with Will Rogers Range Riders with her husband, who is a longtime member of the riding club. Survivors include her husband, Wayne Snider of Amarillo; a daughter, Donna Britt and husband, Ronnie, of Clute; a son, Steve Shirley and wife, Nora, of Amarillo; three stepdaughters, Kathryn Finley and husband, Joel, of Amarillo, Barbara Ann Brittnauer and husband, John, and Patricia Shriver and husband, John, all of Cedar Ridge, Colo.; three sisters, Joyce Parker and husband, Earl, of Godley, Helen Weddle and husband, James, of Weatherford, and Sherry Holder of Waco; two brothers, Donnie Reese of Amarillo and Charles Reese and wife, Mollie, of Haltom City; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She attended high school in Long Beach, Calif., and Tyler. She married J.V. "Jay" Vinyard on March 7, 1945, in Monticello. Sarah was a homemaker and attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Amarillo and El Paso, where she was active in the church Thrift House ministries for more than 25 years. She volunteered and supported the China-Burma-India Hump Pilots Association (World War II Veterans Group) for 35 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Julia Hankins Tucker; her father, Zedock Carson Tucker Sr.; and a brother, Zedock Carson Tucker Jr. Survivors include her husband, J.V. "Jay" Vinyard; three sons, James V. Vinyard of Amarillo, Michael C. Vinyard of Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert C. Mr. Lockhart was born June 25, 1926, in Lockney to Willie Knox Lockhart and Mary Bell Thacker Lockhart. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was also a mechanic. Tra-Vis was born June 8, 1958, in Littlefield. She was a Service Display Manager for Sears for five years. She was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church of Carrollton, and a former member of Emanuel Baptist Church of Dimmitt, where she was the youth choir director for many years. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Antony Punnackal, CMI, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Vega. Anthony was born Aug. 2, 1990, in Amarillo to George and Lelia Groneman. He was a sophomore at Adrian High School. He was active in FFA, FCCLA, and basketball. He also helped coach the younger kids in basketball. He enjoyed reading books and playing video games. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Groneman. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday in Faith Christian Family Church in Clovis, N.M., with David Swann, pastor, and Rick Burke, pastor, officiating. Private family burial has taken place. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mr. Patschke, a native of Thorndale, was born Dec. 1, 1924. He married Jean Marie Pasket on Aug. 31, 1950, in LaMarque. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Blair of Montrose, Colo., and Susan McCloy of Stinnett; seven grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Schroeder of Thorndale; and two brothers, Howard Patschke of Gurnee, Ill., and Walter Patschke of DeSoto. Box 297, Clovis, NM 88102. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Travis Fedric Spurlock DUMAS - Travis Fedric Spurlock, 89, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church in Stratford with the Rev. Mark Metzger, pastor of Sweetwater United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Stratford officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery in Stratford. Mr. Spurlock was born Dec. 28, 1915, in the Ellison home in Sherman County to Annie Clay and William Alexander Spurlock. His siblings were Harvey, Maymie, Clay, Alvin and Elsie Pearle, with Travis being born fourth. He was raised in the Spurlock Community in Sherman County. His father was a farmer and rancher and his mother a homemaker. He attended Spurlock School, held in the Spurlock Chapel, through high school. He married Lorene Folsom on Jan. 3, 1937, and they settled into farming and ranching on their own. In 1947 they built their own house, a half mile from the four-room home where their three children were born. They were overjoyed with electricity, a bathroom and running water. The majority of his time was spent on a tractor plowing, on a combine harvesting and in the workshop repairing and building machinery. His hobbies were planting and growing trees, soil conservation and dirt work (diversion terraces, ponds, tail-water pits, etc.) In his later years, he enjoyed woodworking - building bird feeders, birdhouses, highly finished wood boxes and welding ornamental pieces. He enjoyed collecting pocket knives and polishing rocks. He served on the Sherman County Farm Bureau Board. He also served on the Sherman County School Board for more than 20 years. He received the Farm Bureau Soil Conservation Award. He was the last living charter member of the Sunray Co-op. He attended the Methodist Spurlock Chapel. When the Chapel closed, he transferred his membership to First United Methodist Church of Stratford.
