Wood Marvin D. Wood, 90, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with the Rev. Troy Richardson of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Wood was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Hillsboro to William and Tildy Bell Wood. Marvin was in the Army during World War II. He worked security at Pantex and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Mae Wood, in May 1998. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Wood and wife, Sharon, of Bowie, and C.W. Masters and wife, Esther, of Sunrise Beach; a sister, Ruthie Lee Grohkey of Adrian; six grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Juanita Jones Grier Juanita Jones Grier, 80, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005. Georgia St. Mrs. Grier was born in Wellington. She married John W. Grier in Amarillo in 1942. He passed away in 1975. She worked as a receptionist in several medical offices in Amarillo. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Sorority. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the loving care given by the staff and friends at Craig Methodist Retirement Community. Burial will be in McLean Cemetery in McLean by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Barnett was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Heald to William L. Haynes and Calla Kunkel Haynes. She married Robert Barnett in Tulsa, Okla., in 1940. She was a graduate of Southwestern State University in Oklahoma. She taught school for a while. She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1995 and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1945. Survivors include a sister, Johnie Villa Rogers of Amarillo; a niece, Christa Keen of Amarillo; five great-nieces; two great-great-nephews; and five great- great-nieces. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the East Chapel Mausoleum at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Shrock was born April 2, 1924, in Hooker, Okla. She was reared on an area farm near Hooker. She met Lawrence Hill, and they were married in Liberal, Kan., on Feb. 27, 1941. She later married Von Shrock in Amarillo on July 3, 1971. Norma joined J.C. Penney in Guymon, Okla., in 1954 and worked in administration. She was transferred to Amarillo in 1965. Mrs. Shrock retired after 32 years in 1986. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, needlecraft, gardening and reading. Her grandchildren were her hobby. Norma was a very caring person. She had a deep love for God. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father Fred Zabel in 1985 and her mother Emma Schaefer Zabel in 1987; a brother Wilbert Zabel in 2002; her first husband, Lawrence Hill in 1984; and her second husband, Von Shrock in 2002. Blevins Robert E. Blevins, 56, of Amarillo died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005. He moved to Amarillo in 1999 from Tulia. Mr. Blevins served in the Army for 23 years and retired in 1997 as a master sergeant. During that time, he served in Vietnam. He married Terri Amburn in 2001 in Claude. He was a loving husband, dad and grandpa and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Blevins in 2004. Mrs. Schleh had worked for Smead Manufacturing and was a homemaker. She married Fred Schleh on July 25, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rich Valley, Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 2, 1990, and a brother, Fred Lange. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Schleh and Marjorie Spencer, both of Amarillo; a son, Gerald Schleh of New London, Minn.; a sister, Elsie Donn of Carson City, Nev.; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons. He moved to Amarillo 1968 from Colorado. He married Sherilyn Davis Sorenson on Dec. 15, 1984, in Amarillo. He owned and operated Amarillo Drilling in Amarillo from 1985 until the time of his death. Roger loved the outdoors. He loved to camp, travel and spend time with friends at the coffee shop, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Dale Fox. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. McCarty was born June 26, 1910, in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1927 and West Texas State University in 1931. She was blessed with many wonderful friends and a loving family. Her greatest joy was hosting festive family gatherings in her home. She loved to work in her flower garden. Mrs. McCarty enjoyed telling stories about the days she and her husband spent as teachers in the small coal mining town of Segundo, Colo., during the Depression. Lalah was a member of the Junior Travel Study Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.A. "Bill" McCarty on Dec. 29, 1981. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- George Warren McKean George Warren McKean, 78, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. McKean died Dec. 6 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in St. Louis on Nov. 10, 1927, to Thomas and Georgia McKean. He grew up in Dallas and Oklahoma City. He spent most of his professional life in Dallas in the oil and gas business. George was a beloved member of Central Christian Church in Dallas. He was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Carol Thomson McKean, formerly of Amarillo. George had a love for life and an indomitable spirit. He was a selfless, caring man with a generous heart. Everyone loved George! He was proud to be a descendant of Thomas McKean, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and a World War II veteran, who served on the Battleship Iowa in the Pacific after enlisting in the Navy at age 17. He played at Highland Park High School with Doak Walker and Bobby Layne. After moving to Oklahoma, he played on the 1944 State Championship Classen High School football team. He had a lifelong passion for football. He attended Oklahoma A&M on a football scholarship and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He was a wonderful grandfather, affectionately known as "Gramps." Survivors include his wife; three stepchildren, Peggy Wolf and husband, Lloyd, Doug Thompson and wife, Bonnie, and John Thompson and wife, Diane; eight grandchildren, Liza Thompson Sorgenfrei, Tyler Wolf, Parker Wolf, Clark Thompson, John Thompson, Carol Thomson, Lauren Thompson and Crawford Thompson; and his twin brother, Tom McKean of Gore, Va. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1982. He enjoyed playing bingo, cards and many different games with his friends. He loved to fish and play golf. He was a lifetime member of the UAW Community Action Program. He was a Baptist. She lived in Pampa for many years before moving to Amarillo in 2002. She was in the restaurant business for many years. She operated the Canteen at Lake Greenbelt and also managed the country club at Howardwick. Mrs. Worley also sold real estate and had a recycling business. She loved to fish and sew and loved to cook for her family. She was a Christian. She was preceded in death by a son, Bill Davis, in 1992. Burial will be private. Mrs. Orr was born June 27, 1922, in Panhandle, Texas, the daughter of M.S. and Myrl O'Dell. She was raised in Texas and was a graduate of West Texas State University. She continued her studies at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. Vesta traveled as a musician for Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, helping to raise funds early in the development of the organization. She lived in Maine most of her life and was a noted professional musician in New England. She was well known and active in local musical theater and taught piano for many years to local children of all ages. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Gardner of Vigo Park and Jackie Kienle of Amarillo, Texas.
