Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ in Borger with Richard Kasko of Fritch Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Southwest Church of Christ in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. Cooper on Dec. 11, 1994. Survivors include two daughters Jeanne Nix of Borger and Phyllis McIlroy of Lubbock; a brother, Don Gordon of Elk City, Okla.; two sisters, Betty Tipton of Borger and Bobbie Nix of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert Verne "Bob" Heard Robert Verne "Bob" Heard, 77, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Mike Nuthman officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Heard was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Spearman High School and attended West Texas State University. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Janet Evans in 1979. Mr. Heard retired from Diamond Shamrock as vice president of wholesale marketing after 28 years in 1984. He then went into business for himself, establishing "Action Petroleum," a gasoline jobership, in San Antonio. He moved back to Amarillo in 1998 after selling his business. Mr. Heard was very involved in professional and civic organizations on all levels, local, state and national. He served on the Gasoline Marketing Advisory Council for the Department of Energy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis and boating. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the doctors and staff of the Amarillo V.A. Medical Center. Georgia St. Mrs. Whitaker was born and raised in Armstrong County. She moved to Amarillo in her teens. She met her husband, James Lloyd Whitaker, at Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church where she played the piano and he played the violin. They married Feb. 22, 1936, in Amarillo in the church parsonage. Along with her husband, Mrs. Whitaker was a loyal and faithful worker in the farm and ranch industry. She took care of the bookkeeping and prepared and took meals to the fields during harvest. She played the church piano and organ for many years and also played the piano in numerous nursing homes and at the Amarillo Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Whitaker was a dedicated Christian and prayed faithfully for her family and others on a daily basis. She was a life member of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and was a Melvin Jones Fellow Member of Lions Club International. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 10, 1993; a grandson, Joe Dee Allyn Whitaker; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Avery Gano; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Less and Ethel Whitaker; a brother, William Avery Gano Jr.; a sister, Margaret Gano Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Jane Autumn Whitaker. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Whitaker of Amarillo; six sons, J.W. Georgia St. Mr. McKean died Dec. 6 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in St. Louis on Nov. 10, 1927, to Thomas and Georgia McKean. He grew up in Dallas and Oklahoma City. He spent most of his professional life in Dallas in the oil and gas business. George was a beloved member of Central Christian Church in Dallas. He was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Carol Thomson McKean, formerly of Amarillo. George had a love for life and an indomitable spirit. He was a selfless, caring man with a generous heart. Everyone loved George! He was proud to be a descendant of Thomas McKean, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and a World War II veteran, who served on the Battleship Iowa in the Pacific after enlisting in the Navy at age 17. He played at Highland Park High School with Doak Walker and Bobby Layne. After moving to Oklahoma, he played on the 1944 State Championship Classen High School football team. He had a lifelong passion for football. He attended Oklahoma A&M on a football scholarship and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He was a wonderful grandfather, affectionately known as "Gramps." Survivors include his wife; three stepchildren, Peggy Wolf and husband, Lloyd, Doug Thompson and wife, Bonnie, and John Thompson and wife, Diane; eight grandchildren, Liza Thompson Sorgenfrei, Tyler Wolf, Parker Wolf, Clark Thompson, John Thompson, Carol Thompson, Lauren Thompson and Crawford Thompson; and his twin brother, Tom McKean of Gore, Va. She was the owner of the Rathskeller Restaurant in Pampa from 1982 to 1993. She was a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge in Pampa and a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and aunt. Her life revolved around her grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed by all. As an active boilermaker's wife, she could pack and move the family at a moment's notice.
