Rodriguez HEREFORD - Marcelino S. Rodriguez, 58, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, in Amarillo. Prayer vigil will be at 7 p.m. today in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in La Iglesia de San Jose with the Rev. David Contreras officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park in Dimmitt. Mr. Rodriguez was born Sept. 10, 1947, in Rio Hondo to Julian S. Rodriguez and Rosa Sanchez Rodriguez. He was a farm laborer and worked for Gayland Ward for many years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Church of Christ in Borger with Richard Kasko of Fritch Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge No. 1355. All Masons should meet at the Masonic Lodge at 1 p.m. Mr. Hunter was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Boynton, Okla. He was the son of Audra Mae and Tipton H. Hunter. He was in the Army during World War II. He married Joyce Gene Stults on Oct. 8, 1945, in Seminole, Okla. Joyce and Casey were married 60 years in October 2005. In 1945, they moved to Borger, and Casey went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. He retired after 40 years of service. Casey recently received his 50-year pin as a member of the Adobe Walls Masonic Lodge. Casey’s family was his life. He was known as “Pop” to his grand and great- grandchildren. His greatest joy was being their No. 1 sports fan. Many of his nights and days were spent lovingly and unselfishly caring for family members during their utmost time of need. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ross Hunter of Richmond, Calif.; and a sister, Gleo Cox of Tulsa, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Hunter and wife, Donna, of Amarillo and Garry Hunter and wife, Terry, of Borger; a daughter, Teresa Hunter of Borger; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Bishop was born Aug. 18, 1905, in Cowpens, S.C., to Exony and Perry Ivy Elm, one of seven children. She moved from South Carolina with her husband, Robert Bishop and their young children to the Texas Panhandle in 1930. Onie was a lifelong Methodist. She had been a member of San Jacinto Methodist Church since moving to Amarillo in 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include three daughters, Elsie Compton, Thelma “Tana” Fender and Gloria Scott; a son, Dallas Bishop; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a great-great-great-grandchild. He was formerly employed with the Amarillo Independent School District and was self-employed as a barber for many years. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. Cotter Joe N. Cotter, 80, of Amarillo died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M. Mr. Cotter was born in Big Spring and raised in New Mexico. He graduated from Elida High School and then entered the Navy during World War II. He married Daphne Mears on Dec. 18, 1949, in Littlefield. Mom preceded him in death in June 1985. Dad worked at Southern Union Gas Co. in Flagstaff, Ariz., for 22 years. He then transferred to Santa Fe and worked at the Gas Company of New Mexico until his retirement in 1981. Shortly after that, he moved to Amarillo in order to be closer to his grandchildren. Dad was an avid collector of barb wire. He was a past president of the New Mexico Barb Wire Association, along with numerous other positions he held in various wire organizations. He won many awards with his wire displays and through his dedication to the hobby was named the “Barbarian of the Year” several years ago. He was also one of the group of individuals who worked tirelessly to open the Devil’s Rope Museum in McLean. His love for the museum never waned, and he was working on plaques for the museum up until his final days. His children and grandchildren will always love and remember him as a loving head of the family. We each have very special and unique bonds with him and will cherish those individual memories for the rest of our lives. While he enjoyed working on his yard - which was always the greenest in the neighborhood - that yard was also open to all the kids to play on. There were endless games of croquet that he loved to participate in as well as the hours he spent watching us play “red light, green light” or “hide and seek.” As we got older, he never wanted to actually play Trivial Pursuit, but he loved to be at the table, wanting to guess before the answer was revealed. He was equally adept in the kitchen, and the sweetest memories are of his pecan pies, “world famous” popcorn balls and this year someone better know the recipe for his Christmas mincemeat cookies. Survivors include a son, Gerald “Jerry” Cotter of Canyon; two daughters Jan Mills and husband, Sonny, and Jo Ann Cotter, all of Amarillo; his beloved grandson, Jered Mills and precious granddaughter-in-law, Regina Mills, of Levelland; his sweet granddaughter, Starr Mills of Canyon; a sister, Billie Simnacher of Lubbock; four brothers, Jerry Cotter of San Angelo, Howard Cotter of Ovalo, Mike Cotter of Littlefield and Clarence Cotter of Tucumcari, N.M.; and his special lady friend, Davie Gipson, who brought much joy to his final years. A memorial service will be held later in the spring in Bancroft, Iowa. Georgia St. Mr. Gatlin grew up in Memphis. During World War II, he served in field artillery in North Africa and Europe. He returned to Amarillo and was a member of the Amarillo Fire Department for 37 years, retiring as assistant fire chief. He married Mary Ruth Privitt in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1981. He married Peggy Baker in Amarillo in 1982. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Baker Gatlin; four daughters, Gayle Gatlin Evans and husband, Gaylord, of Amarillo, Sharon Wood and husband, Jerry, of Bowie, Carla Colburn and husband, Bob, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Lee Poindexter and husband, Trent, of Bettendorf, Iowa; a brother, Wayne Gatlin and wife, Joyce, of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Holly, Bethany, Judy, David, Greg, Amy and Austin; and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Humphrey was born in Stringtown, Okla. He had been a diesel mechanic. He was a veteran in the Army. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Love was born April 19, 1925, in Rio Hondo to J.W.B. Love and Ruth E. Woodside Love. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Texas with a master’s degree in psychology. He had been a school psychologist for 20 years in New York, North Carolina and Arkansas. He moved to Amarillo in 1981. In 1989, he received a teaching certificate from West Texas A&M University. He was an educator at the Amarillo Independent School District from 1986 until his retirement in 2005. He was nominated for Teacher of the Year Award at the ESC campus. Mr. Love was an Optimist Club Charter Member in Magnolia, Ark., a member of the Civil Air Patrol, volunteer at the Homeless Shelter, member of the Boy Scouts of America, the D.A.V. and National Education Association. He was also a member of West Amarillo Christian Church. He was a veteran of the Navy. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a son, Bruce Allan Love and wife, Denise, of Abilene; a daughter, Jean Love Elharin and husband, Khalil; three sisters, Marjorie Francis, Dorothy Evans and Betty Jo Hammans; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lynn Rury Lynn Rury, 77, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005. She was a homemaker. Lynn was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was a longtime member of a book review club. She married Everett Rury on Dec. 15, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif. They had just celebrated their 60-year anniversary. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Norris James Robertson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Sanders was born in Waynoka, Okla., on June 16, 1940, and married Ruel Sanders in 1959. He preceded her in death in 1997. She enjoyed spending time with children, her family and friends and had a special place in her heart for her dog “Jacks.” Every year, she spent many hours making handmade Christmas stockings and book bags for many children. She taught Sunday school for the pre-schoolers and was very active with her church. She was a member of Amarillo Bible Church. “Grandma” will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Cliver was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Lockney to Harvey Raymond Cliver and Mary Cliver. He grew up in Amarillo and attended Margaret Wills Elementary School. He also attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Fort Worth and Texas A&M. He worked at the Amarillo Air Base during World War II. Harold also worked as a lumber salesman for Longbell, W.C. Roberts Lumber, A.G. Robbins and Beebe Lumber. He was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and Khiva Temple of the Shrine. He was also a member of the Jaycees, Y Men’s Club and Central Church of Christ. He was past president and 45-year member of the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club. Mr. Cliver was an active Boy Scout leader in various positions for 40 years. He had coached Kids Inc. and YMCA baseball. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Cliver. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Howe of Houston and Emily Barber of Amarillo; a son, Harold L. Cliver Jr. of Lewisville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Simmons, 80, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Capt. Simmons was born in Amarillo and had been a lifetime resident. He served with the Navy during World War II and had served in the Naval Reserves for many years. Capt. Simmons began his career with the Amarillo Police Department in 1949 and retired in the late 1970s. He later worked as a bailiff for the 181st District Court. He also had worked in security for Allstate Security and TSTI. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, the FBI Academy, the Police Association, the Sheriff’s Association, Sons of the American Revolution and the VFW. Jim earned his pilot’s license at the Tradewind Airport, where he spent many hours sharing his love for flying with his friends and loved ones. Jim loved to laugh. Mr. McDaniel was born June 17, 1916, in Forkville, Miss., to Neacie and Ben McDaniel. While stationed at Clovis Air Base, he married his college sweetheart, Eva Reese, in Amarillo, Texas, on Feb. 5, 1944.
