Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Margaret Austin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Gunnels was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Barstow and worked as the assistant manager of Tascosa Country Club. She was an Episcopalian. Mrs. Gunnels was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Gunnels; and a daughter, Vicki Turner Luman-Motes. Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Hogue of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kathy Dean and husband Robert of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Adelia Cox of Lubbock; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leslie "Les" Johnson Leslie "Les" Johnson, 70, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005. Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Wichita County to Samuel Johnson and Bivian Satterwhite Johnson. He moved to Amarillo in 1959 and retired from Southwest Pre-Stressed Concrete as a cement finisher. Survivors include a son, Monty Johnson and wife Darla; two daughters, Leslie Priest and husband Daniel and Jackie Linton and husband Daniel; three sisters, Priscilla Brown, Sherril Penniger, and Juanita Hulen; four grandchildren, Stephanie Hernandez, Matthew Johnson, John Priest and Andrew Linton; and a great-grandchild, Lilli Hernandez. Cutts Jocie M. Cutts, 87, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with the Rev. Jo Mann of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo, Colo. One of six children, Mrs. Cutts was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Major and Lizzie Thomas Banks. She married Will Cutts. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include a son, William Dewayne Cutts of Pueblo; a daughter, Dr. Karen Joyce Cutts of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Amanda Louise Cutts of Amarillo; a sister-in-law, Lucille Banks of Mobile, Ala.; and a nephew, Edward Banks of Woodstock, Ala. He served in the Army from 1966-1969 in Germany and Vietnam. He worked as a diesel mechanic most of his life. He was an ordained deacon and a member of Temple Baptist Church. He enjoyed his hobby of classic cars by attending car shows, cruises and driving his 1971 Nova. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He also passed down his knowledge and love of cars to each of his sons. He battled multiple myeloma for more than a year with the help of Dr. Seah Lim. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne M. Evans Sr.; and a sister, Jinnie Ann Evans. Survivors include his wife, Lynda Evans; three sons, Mike Evans III and wife Katrina, Bobby Evans and wife Heather and Paul Evans and wife Michelle, all of Amarillo; his mother, Virginia Evans of Amarillo; three sisters, Sue Evans and Nora Love, both of Amarillo, and Sandy Parks of Seagoville; seven grandchildren, Christen, Makayla, Chace, Rachael, Katie, Ashley and Ryan; many nieces and nephews; and many more family and friends. Esther Kathleen "Jodie" Hoag Hill was born Feb. 4, 1944, in Ransom, Kan., and went to be with her Savior on Dec. 19, 2005, at home, in Amarillo. She graduated from White Deer High School in 1962 and from Amarillo College of Nursing in 1966. Jodie made a career of nursing at several local doctors' clinics, Pampa Nursing Center and Groom Hospital for several years and then worked as a medical transcriptionist at Pampa Regional Medical Center and more currently at Amarillo Diagnostic Center until the time of her demise. She was a member of First Baptist Church in White Deer where she taught Sunday school and worked with the Royal Ambassadors for a number of years. Jodie loved her Lord and was a testimony to everyone who knew her. She was a joy and brought laughter to everyone. She delighted in her work and in going to work. She loved her family and enjoyed nothing more than everyone getting together for a good time. She was an inspiration as a Christian, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, employee and co-worker and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Bertha Williams; and a dear stepsister, Janet McInturf. Survivors include a son, Jeff Hill of White Deer; three daughters, Betsy Hill, Lori Wilhelm and husband Mark and C.J. Mr. Barnhart was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Sedan, N.M. He lived in Moore County since 1942, retired from Phillips Petroleum as Maintenance Supervisor and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dumas. He married Jean Moss on Jan. 15, 1945, in Dumas. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mrs. Bartley was born April 30, 1916, in Sulphur Bluff to Jesse W. Wilson and Alma Hutton Wilson. She married Hayden Eugene Bartley on Jan. 17, 1934, in Dike. She was a resident of Claude for 66 years before moving to Clarendon last year. She was a homemaker, a waitress at the LA Cafe and a grocery clerk at Johnny's Grocery before her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Claude. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 28, 1987; and a sister, Ora Lou Harred in 1986. Burial will be in Gageby Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Fillingim was born Aug. 18, 1919, east of Wheeler in the Sweetwater Creek area to Iving Gillis and Laura Coker Fillingim. He married Laverna Evans in 1943 in Wheeler. Willis and his family moved from Hemphill County to the Gageby area in 1925, where Willis attended Pleasant Valley Grade School and Canadian High School. He served nearly four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. Willis and his wife farmed, ranched and milked cows in the Gageby area before retiring and moving to Wheeler in 2001. Willis also served on the Briscoe school board. He was a member of the Gageby Community Church, enjoyed singing, teaching Sunday school, helping others and was very strong in the Gideons Society. Willis especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Willis and Verna shared their home with countless people who came in contact with them. These two wonderful people have touched and changed many people's lives. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Leon, E.G., Talmadge, his twin, William, Horace and Hugh Fillingim; and a sister, Leola Root. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mrs. Satabe was born July 23, 1924, in Vaughn, N.M., the daughter of Atilio Vigil and Josephine Carabajal. She coached many children's softball, baseball and football teams, winning numerous first-place trophies with her boy's teams. She played golf, teeing off from the men's tees, hitting straight down the fairway, many times besting her husband. Competition was her middle name! 1965 saw the family transferred to the Philippine Islands where she volunteered with youth. Alva and her husband played lots of golf in the Philippines which included tournaments during monsoons. The caddy simply turned the golf bags upside down and emptied the water when they got full! They decided to retire and picked a home in Satellite Beach, Fla. Alva took up tennis along with golf. Most days of the week would find her either on the tennis court or the golf course. Evenings would find them critiquing their swings on home movies. Her early years saw her dancing with USO tours during World War II, a buyer for the Army Air Force Exchange, a social worker with the New York State Home in Rome, N.Y., and later an accomplished stained glass artist. Being first a "military brat," and later a military wife, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and Japan, with Japan being her favorite. She moved to Texas to be with her daughter and family and moved from Abilene to Hereford with them. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; sisters, Barbara, Mary and Bella; and a brother, Harry. Survivors include a daughter, Casey Martin and husband Terry of Hereford; two sons, Duane and Michael Satabe; grandchildren, Kristin Cunningham and husband Scott and Terry L. Satabe Martin Jr., all of Austin, Kathleen and Denise Satabe of Delaware, Sara Joy Satabe of Melbourne, Fla., Kyra and Devon Satabe of Merritt Island, Fla. Baird KERRVILLE - Wanda L. Baird, 71, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Grimes Funeral Chapels with pastors Jay Dozier, Arlie Lammers and Pat Kennedy officiating. She was born May 14, 1934, in Phillips to Milton and Opal Ingram Henderson. On January 21, 1956, she married Gene Baird in Borger. Wanda graduated from Phillips High School, Frank Phillips Junior College, West Texas State University where she received a B.S. in Education, majoring in elementary education, and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, receiving an M.A. in Education with a major in counseling and guidance. She was a choir accompanist and piano soloist on band tour at WTSU. She attended FPC on a music scholarship and WTSU on an academic scholarship from Phillips Petroleum Co. She was the organist at Borger First Christian Church, Dumas First Christian Church and various other churches. Wanda taught elementary grades in Amarillo and Pampa, California and Arizona, and elementary school music in Borger. The Arizona classroom was in a two-room school on the White River Apache Indian Reservation. She taught first through third grades. Wanda became a stay-at-home mom with two children. She lived in Tennessee, Florida, New York, and Illinois before returning to Dallas where she lived 19 years. She was an executive secretary with NORTEL for 14 years before retiring and moving to Kerrville in 1997. She was also an active member of First Christian Church in Kerrville.
