Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Joyce was born March 26, 1925, in Dumas. She graduated from Dumas High School. She worked at a post office after graduating and was the PBX operator for Northwest Texas Hospital and High Plains Baptist Hospital. On Feb. 19, 1945, Joyce married Joe Burks. Mr. Burks was a prisoner of war in World War II and preceded her in death. In 1962, Joyce married Norman Nesbitt. He also preceded her in death. She enjoyed traveling, hunting, watching football and her grandchildren's sporting activities. Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her children, Debbie Wolf and husband Gaylon, Joe Burks, Amy Hughes and husband Mark, all of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Lori Lane of Amarillo, Branden Hughes of Fayetteville, Ark., Jarred Hughes of Denton and his fiancee, Desirae Stafford, of Dallas; and two great-grandchildren, Averie Lane and Audrie Lane. The family will be at 6503 Palacio Drive in Amarillo. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses at Ware Memorial. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Shadix was born July 26, 1917, in Franklin, Kan. She married E. Aubrey Hunter in 1939. He passed away in 1974. She lived in Phillips prior to moving to Amarillo in 1980. She married Lendal Shadix on April 25, 1981, in Amarillo. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Lendal Shadix; two daughters, Michele Newsom of Lubbock and Cheryl Wiseley and companion Jay Schaefers of Dallas; a son, Eugene A. Derek M. Sheppard Sgt. Derek M. Sheppard, 24, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James M. Mims, pastor, and the Rev. Eric J. Mims Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Derek was born March 25, 1984, in Borger. He was a member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1999 graduate of Palo Duro High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in San Diego. Survivors include his parents, L.M. and Ernestine Sheppard of Amarillo; four brothers, L.M. Sheppard Jr., Alvil Sheppard, Quentin Sheppard and Terrance Sheppard; five sisters, Shelia Powell and husband Robert, Mary Sheppard, Sherea Sheppard, Phyllis Osikha and Lisa Johnson; his best friends, Cameron Shaffer and Sgt. Mike Mead; and a host of other loved ones, relatives and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gille Francis Brown Gille Francis Brown, 92, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Cletus Beights, pastoral care of Polk Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Brown has been a resident of Amarillo since the 1940s. She has been an active member of Polk Street United Methodist Church for many years. In 1934, Gille married George Brown in Oklahoma. They were married 57 years when Mr. Brown passed away in 1991. Mrs. Brown was an accomplished artist and a member of Eastern Star. She was also a seamstress for 60-70 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Wallace. Survivors include a sister, Cora Lee Jones of Houston; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Ewing was born Jan. 3, 1913, in Romance, Ark. He married Edna Behrends on Oct. 29, 1938, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; three daughters Peggy Ehly and June Ewing, both of Dimmitt, and Irene Miller of Amarillo; two sons, Edward Ewing of Dimmitt and H. N. Ewing of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Waggoner of Edmond, Okla. The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Glessie Donnelly Allmon CLAUDE - Glessie Donnelly Allmon, 99, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, in Amarillo. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo. Glessie Donnelly Allmon, 99, passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2005, in Amarillo. Mrs. Allmon was born Oct. 29, 1906, in Vinita, Okla., which was still Indian Territory, to Thomas and Mary Ellen Donnelly. She married the late Jack P. Allmon Sr. in Girard, Kan., on March 30, 1930. She moved more than 50 times during her marriage to Jack. However, the family spent most of its years in Rapid City, where their son, Jack Jr., could receive continuity in his schooling, as well as the fact the family was very well pleased with the city and the surrounding area. Her last move was to Claude in 1998 to be closer to her sister, Betty McGowan. She was a PEO Sister for more than 40 years. She was also very active in the American Cancer Society, Cub Scouts, and many other social activities. She loved to play bridge and was an excellent player into her late 90s. After having a golf lesson in her early-married life, she continued playing golf, often winning trophies, into her 80s. Her many friends were recipients of her ability as a gourmet cook and also admired her artistic ability. Glessie Allmon charmed everyone with her wit, her interest in people, and her ready laughter. Her cremains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean, as were her late husband's. Survivors include a son, Jack Allmon Jr. and wife Marilyn of Burnsville, Minn.; and a sister, Betty McGowan of Claude. Box 450, Claude, TX 79019. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Quincy Holt Jr. PAMPA - John Quincy Holt Jr., 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Doug DuBose, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Holt joined the U. S. Army Air Forces on Oct. 17, 1942, and served for three years. He worked for Cabot Carbon Black for 39 years at the Pampa plant, serving as foreman and later safety man. Survivors include his wife, Martha Holt; two daughters, Nancy Kay Cates of Dripping Springs and Barbara Ann Holt of Pampa; two grandsons; five sisters, Lydia Castle of Greenville, Loma Wilson of Dallas, Sue Cupp of San Antonio, Mary Hamil of Mesquite and Patsy Douthit of Caddo Mills. Mr. Perdue was born July 2, 1923, in the Hudgins Community in Donley County and lived in Donley County all his life except from 1959 until 1973, when he lived in Levelland. He married Edna Lee Mahaffey on July 30, 1947, in Memphis. He farmed and raised cattle most of his life. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Collier and Wynona May Roy Perdue; two brothers, J.C. and Frank Perdue; and his sister and brother-in- law, Nell and Earl Stout.
