Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mary was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John C. and Irene Nunley. She was a lifelong resident of Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Mitchell, in 1993; four brothers, Tom George, James Anglum, Walter J. Nunley and John C. Nunley; a sister, Lavonne Cottle; and a stepson, Donnie Mitchell. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Elliott and husband Frank and Joan Perry and husband David; a brother, William T. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Sandoval was born Oct. 23, 1949, in Amarillo to Miguel Sandoval and Petra Rodriguez Sandoval. He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo. He married Carolyn Ferrell in 1994 in Amarillo. He worked for Bruckner Truck Sales for 18 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Mariano Garcia, Miguel Jr., Jessie and Johnny; and two nephews. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Lasaro Sandoval Jr. of Amarillo, James Sandoval of Albuquerque, N.M., Terry Reed of Amarillo, Richard Reed of Lubbock and William Ferrell of Amarillo; two daughters, Kizzy Sandoval of St. Augustine, Fla., and Michele Reed Moore of Levelland; three sisters, Eva Moreno of Houston, Georgia Salazar and Delores Diaz, both of Amarillo; two brothers, Felix Sandoval and Eddie Sandoval, both of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sam J. He was a Mason for 50 years with the ISOM Lodge No. 1242 in Borger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Patrick. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer of First Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Briscoe was born June 24, 1914, in Tulia to Mr. and Mrs. V.C. Hagood. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1930. Mrs. Briscoe moved to Amarillo and went to work for Pioneer Natural Gas in 1933. She married Jerry Briscoe on Dec. 14, 1948. She left the gas company in 1958 when Jerry was transferred to Mobile, Ala. They later lived in Houston and Dallas before moving back to Amarillo in 1995 to be closer to family. Mrs. Briscoe was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Briscoe; a son, Virgil Speer of Amarillo; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shirley Joan Scarth Shirley Joan Scarth, 77, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Winfred Moore officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Born Oct. 15, 1928, in Fredonia, Kan., Joan was the second of five children born to Guy and Fern Sissom Smith. Joan was raised in southeast Kansas, attending schools in Buffalo and Fredonia. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1946. In the summer of 1946 she met Bob Scarth on a blind date. On April 6, 1950, soon after Bob graduated from Oklahoma University, the two were married in Fredonia. Bob and Joan began their nearly 56 years of marriage and his petroleum engineering career with the J.M. Huber Corporation in Borger. While with the company, the Scarth family resided in Borger, Odessa, Midland, Denver and Houston. Their first child, Stanley, was born in Borger in 1952. Sherri was also born in Borger in 1954, before the family moved to Odessa. In 1957 their third child, Kayla, was born in Odessa. Joan was a devout born-again Christian and devoted to supporting Baptist church work wherever the family lived. Joan was an outstanding hostess, cook and conservative, faithful companion to Bob, raising her children in a Christ- centered home environment. A very close-knit family, she enjoyed numerous trips with the entire family to the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. She was very thoughtful and giving. With her tender loving personality coupled with her radiant smile, Joan established everlasting bonds with a multitude of families wherever the family moved. In 1973 the family moved to Amarillo, where they established their own oil and gas company. With the family raised, Joan quickly found her place in the church and with a circle of friends who shared her love for the card game of bridge. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; and a brother. Survivors include her husband, Bob; a son, Stan Scarth of Amarillo; two daughters, Sherri Vance of Oklahoma City and Kayla Parvin and husband Jerry of Booker; grandchildren, Christina (Scarth) and husband David Ford of Austin, Jerod Vance of Los Angeles, Dustin Vance and Mary Nichols of Oklahoma City, Heather Vance of Oklahoma City, Kari (Parvin) and husband Jordan Bailey of Denton, and Joni and Reed Parvin of Booker; two great-grandchildren Ella Ford of Austin and Karlee Jane Vance of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Richard and wife Betty Smith of Kansas City, Mo., Jack and wife Marilyn of Topeka, Kan; a sister, Jackie Thames of Jal, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Ramos was born Dec. 5, 1972, in Amarillo to Eloy Ramos and Juanita Jasso Ramos. He was a beautiful human being; a good father, who was proud of his children. He was always ready to help others with his mechanical skills and was known for his great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Christobal and Maria Ramos and Juan and Amanda Jasso. Mrs. Catherall was born Aug. 6, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. She moved to Amarillo in 1955 and attended Amarillo schools. She worked at Kerr Paper when she met and married Fred Catherall Jr. on Aug. 31, 1978, in Amarillo, and moved to Dumas to live. She was a Dumas resident since 1978. She worked at Memorial Hospital, Cactus Feeders for 15 years and Texas Concrete. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Edith Calhoun, of Dumas. Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Linda Calhoun of Dumas and Sharon White of Amarillo; a brother, Lawrence West of El Paso; her mother-in-law, Pauline Coaly and husband Rheaford; brothers-in-law, Pete Catherall of Amarillo and Paul Catherall and wife Mary of Dumas; a sister-in-law, Liz Stavenhagen and husband W.G. of Dumas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Laubhan was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Shattuck, Okla., to Jona and Martha Laubhan. He married Donna McLarty on Sept. 6, 1952, and to this union, two children were born, Sonya Jan Laubhan and Tommy Laubhan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jona and Martha Laubhan; a brother, Alvin Laubhan; a sister, Delilah Hoyle; and a daughter, Sonya Laubhan. Burial will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. Mrs. Brock was born Dec. 26, 1973, in Big Spring, the daughter of Rex and Stacy Allen. She was a 1992 graduate of Hereford High School, where she was a member of the band and drill team. Tonya graduated from Howard Junior College in May 2002, was a Licensed Vocational Nurse with DayBreak Community Services in Amarillo and attended Hereford Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Russ Latham and V.W. Carey; a grandmother, Beverly Blackwell; and an aunt, Sonja Johnson. Survivors include two sisters, Doris Nesbitt of Amarillo and Thelma Hutcheson of Dimmitt; and a brother, Jerry Belknap of Centreville, Va. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helen Geneva Hale Ivey CLAUDE - Helen Geneva Hale Ivey, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005. Mrs. Ivey was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Scottsboro, Ala., and was a resident of Claude for many years. He lived in New Boston before returning to Claude three years ago. She married A.J. Ivey on April 27, 1935, in Texarkana. She worked for 27 years as a nurse and a nurse's aide at Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude before her retirement. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Panhandle and was a Methodist. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; and two daughters, Margaret Suttles in October 1999 and Mildred Talent in July 2004. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Jaramillo of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sons, John William Ivey of Wichita Falls, Jim Ivey of Sterling, Va., and Marvin Ivey of Claude; a sister, Mary Lou McClaren of Malta; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the Church of Christ in Memphis with Tom Anderson officiating, assisted by Bright Newhouse. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis. Mrs. Payne was born May 26, 1911, in Lakeview to R.S. Wansley Sr. and Jennie Billington Wansley. She attended school in Lakeview and married Herbert D. Payne in 1927. Both ardent and thrifty workers, they had long and successful careers in farming and in the barber and beauty businesses. Active as a beautician until her health declined, Mrs. Payne still had numerous faithful patrons. She worked on as many as six generations of one family, working 73 years. Mrs. Payne was honored as Outstanding Older Worker of Texas on Sept. 18, 2004, and was awarded a trip to Washington D.C., her first trip on an airplane. She was also commissioned a Yellow Rose of Texas on June 28, 2004, by Texas Gov. Rick Perry. She was an active and longtime member of the Memphis Church of Christ, having given many years of service, from teaching Sunday school to preparing food for bereaved families. Her dedication is shown through her willing heart and busy hands. Her greatest joy was spending time with her son and her grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Garland G. Payne. Survivors include a son, David Payne of Lakeview; a brother, R.S. Mr. McVay was born May 10, 1969, in Wichita, Kan., to Marion M. and Dorothy Marler McVay. Rob loved the ocean, the beach and his dog, Brittney. Survivors include two sisters, Debie Richardson of Castle Rock, Colo., and Ronda Peifer of Aurora, Colo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sister Mary Feliciana Schreiber PANHANDLE - Sister Mary Feliciana Schreiber, 100, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. Mass will be at 4 p.m. today in Sancta Maria Convent in Panhandle with Bishop John Yanta celebrating. Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery in Panhandle by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo. Sister Theresia Schreiber was born Oct. 25, 1905, in Poysdorf, Austria, to Matthias and Theresia Toegl. She studied needlework and received her teaching degree from the Teachers College in Vienna. She entered the Congregation of the School Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in Vienna, Austria, on Oct. 17, 1923. She made her first vows on July 25, 1926, and final vows on July 25, 1932. In 1932, she came to the United States and studied at Mount Mary College, where she received her BA and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Sister taught as St. Clemens in Center Line, Mich., and at Our Lady of the Good Shepherd in Trenton, N.J. After the School Sisters were invited to come to Texas and admitted by Bishop Laurence FitzSimon, Sister was in charge of the first Gordon Memorial Home for Children from 1954-1956. From July 1949 to July 1968, Sister Feliciana was the Regional Superior of the Congregation in the United States. She was appointed the administrator of St. Ann's Home for the Aged soon after it opened in 1962. In the memory book of hearts, Sister is remembered by many in the last 20 years for the beautiful creations she made in the craft shop of the nursing home, the wonderful stories she would tell about St. Joseph, her favorite saint, and the afternoon coffee breaks that she shared daily with the young Sisters. Francy, 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005, at Carillon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brooks Memorial Chapel in Happy with the Rev. Keith Wiseman officiating. Burial will follow in Happy Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock. She was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Pawnee, Okla. She married Robert S. Francy on March 4, 1934, in Pawnee. Jessie and Robert farmed in Happy for almost 60 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Happy. They moved to Lubbock in October 1996. Mr. Francy died on March 5, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Barnes; and a brother, Harold Hatcher. Survivors include three daughters, Frances Hunt of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Mary Cato of Lubbock and Ruth Frandsen of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeane VanArsdell of Durant, Okla., and Mildred Tuttle of San Jose, Calif.
