Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Southwest Church of Christ with Phil Harguess officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Woelfel was born and raised in Hale Center and graduated from Hale Center High School. She attended nursing school in Plainview. She married Bill Woelfel in Hale Center on April 5, 1958, and they moved to Amarillo in 1959. After living in Carrollton and Colorado Springs, Colo., they returned to Amarillo in 2002. She was a precious wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a pillar of strength in her many years of fighting ovarian cancer. "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:28-29 Mrs. Woelfel was a member of Southwest Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lindsay Russ. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with Monsignor Joseph Tash of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Hughes was born in Champaign, Ill., on April 22, 1915, to George and Christine Wise. She graduated Champaign High School and attended the University of Illinois. She worked as a secretary for the federal government both in Champaign and Indianapolis. She married Mark Hughes on Aug. 24, 1940. They celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2001. They moved from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Amarillo when her husband, Mark, retired in 1981. She was a natural volunteer for numerous organizations throughout her life. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; and grandson, Brett Ridgeway. Terri loved animals, especially parrots, and amazed everyone with her ability to get the birds to talk, not just words but sentences. He married Fairy Foster on Sept. 7, 1947. Mr. Smith served in the Army Air Corps. He was self-employed in sales and service with public utilities instrumentation work for different municipalities in the state. Max Smith was a member of National Model Railroad Association, a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar and Khiva Shrine Temple. He was also a member of First Christian Church, serving for many years as property chairman, elder, singing in the choir and was a member of UNI Sunday school class. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 Coulter Road, with Jay Roberson, pastor of Tascosa Road Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Wayside Cemetery in Wayside. Our beloved mother, Cora Juanita Dougan, made her peaceful transition on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at the age of 84. Juanita was born March 9, 1921, in Comanche County to Cora Ellen Castlebery and Thomas Jefferson Dunlap. Juanita spent most of her adult life in Amarillo, and her last residence was at 1916 Gregory in Amarillo. Juanita was a professional telephone operator. She held the prestigious position of top security civilian PBX switchboard operator for the military during World War II. Juanita was a proud descendant of Peta Nocona, (Puhtocnocony, He who wanders and comes back) a great Comanche Indian chief and father of Quanah Parker, the last great Comanche Indian chief. Juanita spent a great deal of time researching the genealogy of her Comanche heritage. Peta Nocona's first wife was White Huron, and their first child was Millatirwa (Summer Moon) which was changed to Millie Milton when she was sold into slavery. She married John Jerden Goforth and they were the parents of Juanita's grandmother. The great Quanah Parker was the child of Peta Nocona's sixth wife, Cynthia Ann Parker. So Juanita loved to tell everyone that she was a distant half-cousin to Quanah. Following the services, Juanita will be laid to rest alongside the love of her life, John Carl Dougan Sr. and her mother, Cora Ellen. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Dougan Briney of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, John Carl Dougan Jr. of El Paso and Michael Dougan of Amarillo; two sisters, Willie Lee (Dunnie) Thomas of Amarillo and Virginia Noe of Seattle; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. "Bob" Hansen, 85, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 23, 2005. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Georgia St. Mr. Hansen was born in Goodwell, Okla., to Marius and Marguerite Hansen. He graduated from Goodwell High School. Mr. Hansen served in the Navy in the Pacific and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He married Earline "Jan" Jansson in Goodwell on May 23, 1948. While attending Panhandle State University, he was called back into active duty and served his country again during the Korean War. In 1952, they moved to Amarillo and he began working at Pantex. He worked for 34 years at Pantex until his retirement. After retirement, Mr. Hansen enjoyed traveling and fishing with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hansen of Guymon, Okla. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Melanie Davidson and husband, David, and Michelle Hoggatt and husband, Dale, all of Amarillo; a son, Randy Hansen and wife, Debbie, of Amarillo; two sisters, Elizabeth Meeks and husband, James, and Marge Hester and husband, Carl, all of Amarillo; four granddaughters, Jennifer, Marcie, Jamie and Marley; and a great-grandson, Matthew. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. J. McGaughy, pastor, and Beau Blue officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. Mr. Blue went to meet the Lord on Wednesday after a lengthy illness. He was born in Wheeler on Oct. 7, 1923, to Artie Mae Reynolds and Walter E. Blue. His family moved to Bula when he was 6 years old. He graduated from Bula High School in 1941, where he was an outstanding basketball player with a great hook shot from the corner. J.W. served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His service was in the South Pacific and in the invasion and occupation of Japan. Blue married Glennella Gaillard of Texhoma, Okla., on Jan. 3, 1949. In 1954, he started the family company, Blue Plumbing. J.W. "Pops," a 52-year resident of Dumas, sponsored and played on softball teams in Dumas and Guymon, Okla., and was instrumental in building the original Dumas softball park. He was a Methodist, a staunch Democrat and a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve Blue and wife, Patsy, and Monte Blue and Juanita, all of Dumas; a daughter, Cathy Creel and husband, Bub, of Newcastle; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Blue of Dumas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Specht, 89, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Edwin Cooley, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Specht was born in 1915 at Frankfurt, Germany. He and his beloved wife of 60 years, Margarethe (Gretel) Specht, were married in Frankfurt in 1939. She preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2000. He lived a very full life, one that coincided with the most interesting chapters of the 20th century. He led his family on a risky and courageous move from Germany in 1953 to follow the American dream. He specifically chose Pampa over another equal opportunity in a large east coast city. Mr. Specht was a doting husband and proud father. He was an accomplished engineer and executive for the Cabot Corp. for many decades. He loved the people of Pampa, traveling the world, card games with friends, fishing, and crafting with his hands. Survivors include two sons, U.H. "Woody" Specht, a retired F.B.I. agent, an active attorney and sitting judge of Dallas, and Randy Specht, an executive in the power industry of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren. Mr. Watson was raised in Gruver and was a veteran of the Navy. Following his discharge, Don worked as an air traffic controller and then was involved in the roofing and sharpening business. Mrs. Horner was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Great Bend, Kan. Gerry was a loving mother, grandmother, and her husband's best friend. She loved flowers and enjoyed crocheting. She owned her own home bakery for 12 years and was known for her cinnamon chocolate cake. Gerry loved to spoil her grandchildren. She was a 63-year resident of Amarillo before moving to Arlington. She will be deeply missed by all her family. Mrs. Chavey was born in Booker on March 25, 1928. Most of her childhood was spent in the Panhandle, and she graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy. She married Jack McGee (deceased) in 1946 before marrying William Edward Chavey on July 1, 1956. Dorothy and Bill celebrated 46 years of marriage together before his death in 2002. Her passion was directed at being a dedicated mother and an accomplished pianist. She was proud of the former and humble about the latter. A prodigious pianist, she began performing at age 5, and she and her two brothers, Olan and Eldon ("The Lehman trio"), were wooed as child stars by Hollywood. At age 8, Dorothy was dubbed as "America's Sweetheart Composer." She eschewed Hollywood and instead developed and showcased her talent locally. She and her late husband W.E. "Whisperin' Bill" Chavey played with their band at clubs and events throughout the Panhandle. Her exceptional talent as a pianist provided enjoyment for all who heard her play and was a source of fulfillment for her throughout her life. Dorothy's favorite composition was her family. An intensely devoted wife and mother, she leaves a legacy that serves as an example for others. Her Catholic faith was quiet but serious and formed in her a spirit that was loving and dedicated, never imposing and always selfless. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Lehman and Allene Tucker. She retired after 42 years in 2000 from Panhandle ISD as a teacher. She married Jimmy Don Mitchell in Panhandle on Aug. 24, 1956. She was a member of the Classroom Teachers Association, PTA, homecoming committee and Retired Education Association of Panhandle and was on the board of Square House Museum. She was Sunday school administrator in Panhandle at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She helped organize the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization in Stinnett. Carol was instrumental in organizing the Panhandle High School Alumni Homecoming, giving endless hours obtaining alumni addresses. She did this because of her deep love of Panhandle schools throughout her own education as well as her years teaching there. "My day is complete; I heard a child laugh." The Panhandle Panthers always knew that Carol was one of their most passionate inspirators and motivators. "Never say quit." Carol gave to those who needed a helping hand, and all she asked in return was for that person to give the best of himself. "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." As an elementary teacher of 42 years, Mrs. Mitchell touched many students' lives through more than what is found in books. Mrs. Mitchell gave her students the gift of "There is a good reason for becoming better than you are." Carol's kitchen table was a familiar and comforting place for many. She served great food, always had a listening ear and created wonderful memories for all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. "Friendship doubles our joy and divides our grief." Here he attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Gold Palm in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, N.M., in 1944. While at Shattuck, he was a member of the Officers Club, captain of the Rifle Team and won his "S" in tennis. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi, Green Key, vice president of the Dartmouth Players and captain of the Rifle Team, where he was awarded a "D". He started his insurance career with the Royal Insurance Co. in New York as a casualty underwriting trainee. After serving in the Army Medical Corps during the Korean War, he returned to the Royal in New York for another year of training and was then transferred to Kansas City as a casualty underwriter. He went with R.B. Jones and Sons, Inc. as marketing manager for special risks in 1958. In 1960, he joined Panhandle Insurance Agency in Amarillo as marketing manager. He received the chartered property casualty underwriter designation in 1971. He taught the casualty portion of the Insurance Recording License examination at Amarillo College for a number of years. He was treasurer, board member and served on the executive committee of the YMCA, where he was awarded the "Outstanding Service Award" in 1979. He was a former assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 80, BSA where he was awarded the Scouter's Key. He served as treasurer and board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Amarillo. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 731, Amarillo Commandry No. 48 and the Khiva Shrine. He was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. He was a former member of the Tascosa Country Club, the Amarillo Club and the Canyon Country Club. In addition to Panhandle Insurance Agency, he was marketing manager at Century III, Marsh & McLennan and a producer and consultant at Neely, Craig & Walton. John loved fishing, hunting, golfing and reading. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettye Ann Singleton, and his second wife, Judy Jennings Abrahamson. Mrs. Chavey was born in Booker on March 25, 1928. Most of her childhood was spent in the Panhandle, and she graduated high school from St. Mary's Academy. She married Jack McGee (deceased) in 1946 before marrying William Edward Chavey on July 1, 1956. Dorothy and Bill celebrated 46 years of marriage together before his death in 2002. Her passion was directed at being a dedicated mother and an accomplished pianist. She was proud of the former and humble about the latter. A prodigious pianist, she began performing at age 5, and she and her two brothers, Olan and Eldon ("The Lehman trio"), were wooed as child stars by Hollywood. At age 8, Dorothy was dubbed as "America's Sweetheart Composer." She eschewed Hollywood and instead developed and showcased her talent locally. She and her late husband W.E. "Whisperin' Bill" Chavey played with their band at clubs and events throughout the Panhandle. Her exceptional talent as a pianist provided enjoyment for all who heard her play and was a source of fulfillment for her throughout her life. Dorothy's favorite composition was her family. An intensely devoted wife and mother, she leaves a legacy that serves as an example for others. Her Catholic faith was quiet but serious and formed in her a spirit that was loving and dedicated, never imposing and always selfless. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Lehman and Allene Tucker. After his discharge, he married Billie Fae Park, his wife of 51 years, and raised two children, Thomasine and Michael. Mr. Meek set up his own business as a violin and guitar maker at that time, where he continued to repair instruments until 2002. He was also the primary organizer of the Great American Cattle Drive of 1995 and was the initial donor of longhorns for the Fort Worth Herd. His passions of encouraging the heritage and raising of Texas longhorns and his dedication to career, civic and educational activities were second only to his devotion to his family. Mr. Meek set up his own business as a violin and guitar maker at that time, where he continued to repair instruments until 2002. Mrs. Floyd, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, died peacefully surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was born in Nash, Okla., to C.R. and Lillie Gibson. Weslaco was home during her early childhood. Depression years moved her family to a farm outside Dimmitt. After graduating from Dimmitt High in 1942, she worked for various insurance companies, retiring from State Farm after 25 years. After meeting her husband, James, on a blind date, they married in 1943. Their active lifestyle included fishing and camping along with their two daughters. Playing cards, traveling and making sequin Christmas stockings were her favorite hobbies. As a Christian she walked in faith, showing strength and love throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a grandson, Daryl Stout. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Swift and Vicki Thompson and husband, Pete; a brother, Johnny Gibson; her grandchildren, Tami Larkin and husband, Jerry, Kristien Gillaspy and husband, Mark, Brandi Maurer and husband, Tim, and Nicole Swift; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
