"Duke" Haiduk Adrian F. "Duke" Haiduk, 80, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006. Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Thursday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mass will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Josephms Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Haiduk was born Nov. 3, 1925, in White Deer to Benjamin and Tekla Haiduk. He graduated from White Deer High School in 1943. He joined the Navy in August 1944 and was honorably discharged in June 1946 after serving aboard the USS Ashland, LSD 1 in the South Pacific. He then went on to graduate from West Texas State University. Mr. Haiduk married Joyce Duffy on Dec. 27, 1950. Mr. Haiduk retired from Texaco Refinery after 31 years. He was a member of St. Josephms Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir, served as a communion minister to the home bound, served on numerous committees and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Haiduk was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, an avid gardener, enthusiastic traveler and enjoyed oil painting. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Chaffee; and a son- in-law, Robert Gist Knupp Jr. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; three daughters, Carla Knupp of The Colony, Vicki Haiduk of Richardson and Robin Haiduk of Amarillo; a son, Michael Haiduk of Beaumont; two sisters, Regina Hawkins of Tallahassee, Fla., and Emma Kuehler and husband, Pete, of Panhandle; two brothers, Fred Haiduk of Amarillo and Bert Haiduk and wife, Glenna, of Lubbock; a granddaughter, Rachel Cook- Norris and husband, Rob, of Lubbock; and two grandsons, Nathan and Travis Haiduk of Beaumont. Burial will be at 4 p.m. MST today in Tucumcari, N.M. Mrs. Hart, lovingly known as Grams, was born Dec. 17, 1918, to Wellington and Mabel Johnson in Endee, N.M. She married Earl "Punk" Hart on Aug. 27, 1936, in Tucumcari, where they resided for almost 50 years. Punk died March 22, 1987, soon after the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 1986. In Tucumcari, Arleen was an active member of Third Street Church of Christ. She also volunteered as the chairman of the Quay County Chapter of the American Cancer Society for many years. Arleen moved to Palo Duro Village in Canyon in October 1996, where she resided for six years before moving to Bivins Memorial Nursing Home in September 2002. Arleen was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, grace and dignity, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends and the loving staff at Bivins. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Punk; two brothers, Curtis Johnson and V.C. "Barney" Johnson; and two sisters, Jewell Hammons and Ruby Cooper. She married Wayne Maciolek on Aug. 30, 1969, in Capitan, N.M. He died in June 1991. She moved to Friona in December 1995 from Amarillo, where she had lived since 1949. Mr. Travis, 59, a native of Follett and a resident of Santa Fe, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, after a nine-year struggle with cancer. Nick had six university degrees and was completing his seventh degree when he died. Nick had a varied and talented professional career. He was a national educational consultant, award-winning artist, published author, video producer, grief counselor, death, dying and hospice educator and gallery owner and as a licensed massage therapist, he developed a unique form of body work called "Active Vibrational Healing Touch Therapy," just to name a few of his endeavors. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Don and Mildred Travis, and a sister, Sherry Tobin. Mr. Nelson was born Dec. 21, 1916, in Graydon, Texas, to John Arthur Nelson and Edith Kolowinski Nelson. He grew up and received his education in the Anahuac, Texas, area. He entered the Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. During his military services in 1943, he married Ruth Ellen Olmstead in Pampa, Texas. Following his Honorable Discharge, they made their home in Phillips, Texas, where Mr. Nelson was employed by Phillips Petroleum Co. Mr. Nelson retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. as a warehouseman in 1982 after 37 years of service. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson moved to Borger, Texas, to make their home until moving to Bartlesville in 1997. In past years, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were active in square dancing.
