Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Mo., with the Rev. W.D. Martensen officiating. Arrangements are by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mr. Simmons was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Reeds Creek, W. Va., the youngest son of Josephus and Stella E. Smith Simmons. On April 18, 1944, he married Twila Gene Drake at Fortuna, Mo. She preceded him in death on May 7, 1983. He served in the Army in the Aleutian Islands and later farmed in West Virginia until moving to Missouri in 1955. He continued farming in Pisgah and Fortuna and later worked for Dunkin Sign Co. in Versailles. He enjoyed caring for his cattle and hunting. He was a member of Reeds Creek United Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister; four brothers; and a son, Alan Dean. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wise and husband, Jon, of Hughesville, Mo., and Brenda Burns and husband, Terry, of Amarillo; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until service time at Syracuse Baptist Church in Syracuse. Mrs. Buel was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Floydada to Harry and Grace Laughter. The family moved to Lubbock and remained there until Gola graduated from Lubbock High School. She continued her education at Texas Tech University and received her bachelor's degree in home economics. She married Claude Theodore Buel on Oct. 19, 1943. She taught school for 20 years in Corpus Christi, Aledo and Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Naomi Sealy of Brownfield. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Julia Turner of Dimmitt and Barbara Minton of Corpus Christi; a grandson, Daniel Minton of Frisco; a granddaughter, Miranda Harvey of Seminole; a niece, Sandra Pendergrass of Lubbock; two nephews, Wayland Sealy and Kenneth Sealy, both of Brownfield; and a great-niece, Keely Geishel of Sundown. He was a 1946 graduate of Amarillo High School and attended college in Canyon. He served in the Army. He and his brothers worked with their father at Khoury Brothers Oriental Rug Store. He later operated a design business and owned two local restaurants, Sierra Madre and Catfish Acres. He married his devoted wife of 43 years, Rene, in 1963. His lifelong interests included fishing, horses, painting, home dcor, gardening, Oriental rugs, art and the culinary arts. A celebration of her life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Taylor, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Thompson was born April 18, 1924, in McGregor to Frederick Christian Quebe and Emma Fehler Quebe, both of whom preceded her in death. While being raised on the family farm near McGregor and attending local schools, she was surrounded by her sister, Geneva, and a large extended family, with whom she remained in close contact throughout her life. Mrs. Thompson left McGregor to attend North Texas State University, where she graduated in 1946. After college, she moved to Austin and began working as a secretary in the University of Texas Law School, where she met her husband, Jimmy E. Thompson. They were married on Sept. 25, 1948, in McGregor, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 1994. The couple moved to Amarillo for one year before choosing Pampa as their lifelong home. Mr. Thompson began his private law practice, and she became active in First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and civic activities within the community while beginning to perfect her life's work, which was to raise her three children with grace, love and ideal example. As a homemaker, she provided her family with all the elements that molded a loving and warm environment. She particularly excelled in the kitchen, where she fed many with her delicious creations and, in particular, her homemade bread, which she continued to bake until very recently. Her friendly nature and positive attitude carried her through life and touched those whom she met. The family wishes to thank the many friends who supported Margaret during these last few years when her health began to fail. You are a blessing to us, and we so appreciate your love and support. Her life stands as a testimony of what it is to serve the Lord and lead by example. They had three children, Suzanne, John and Randy Jacobs. She later married Edward Haar in 1967, and they added their children, Tyra and Kent Haar, to their family. Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Ed Haar passed away in 1994, and Dorothy continued to manage the family farm. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Vicki Johnson; and a brother, Bill Johnson.
