Jan. 7, 2006. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marty Hamrick, Associate Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery Chapel in Fort Worth. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Helen Monk was born January 27, 1914, in Fort Worth, to Dr. Oscar Elmer Veatch and his wife, Helen Johnson Veatch. She graduated from Central High School in Fort Worth, followed by three years at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she was a member of Alpha Zeta Pi, the national Honorary Romance Language Society, the Bryson Club, Los Hidalgos and the Ampersand, the national honor society for senior women. She was later inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the national scholastic honor society. She graduated summa cum laude from Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, in 1936. She married James A. Monk in 1934 and provided love, comfort and support to him until his death in 1996. Mrs. Monk was a lifelong Christian and was active in her church in many ways. She was a participant, officer, andpresident of her circle of United Methodist Women. She was an active member, officer, and president of the Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class at Polk Street for many years. She participated in the Seniors Group from its founding. She was active in support of missionary work done by the church. She co-authored a cookbook for the Altus First United Methodist Women's Society, after personally cooking and testing most of the recipes. Mrs. Monk was a long-term member of PEOand over time served as her Chapter AI President and President of the PEO Statewide Council. She was a member of several bridge clubs, the International Club, the Symphony Guild, Bravo, Art Alliance, Chamber Music Society and other civic organizations. She returned to college in 1968 and received an Associate Degree in Medical Records Technology in 1970 from Amarillo College. She worked as a medical records technician for what is now the Baptist Saint Anthony Hospital for a brief time. Mrs. Monk had a wide circle of friends in Fort Worth, Altus, Okla., and Amarillo, which attests to her warm, caring spirit. She was always a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge, an avid bridge player, and a willing helper for those in need. She loved to cook, work in her garden and was an enthusiastic exerciser and walker. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years in 1996, her mother in the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918, her father in 1929, her sister, Mary Louise Veatch Terrell in 1987, and her brother, John Robert Veatch in 1997. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Monk; and a son, James A. Monk, Jr.; her three grandchildren,Kimberly Conaway Barnett, Dr. Frank Conaway Jr. and Sarah Monk Hansen; five great-grandchildren,Trey Barnett, Paige Barnett, Breena Conaway, Madison Conaway, and Joshua Conaway; and her cousins, Julianne Johnson Attebury, Suzanne Attebury Boyce, Josephine Johnson Franzheim, Estella Johnson, Helen Sue Johnson Donnel, and Susan McCandless Welch. Interstate 40. Mrs. Rascoe was born Jan. 30, 1956, to Buddy and Cleta Joyce Edens in Amarillo. She graduated from Caprock High School in May 1974 and married Jacky M. Rascoe on June 17, 1995. Mrs. Rascoe worked several jobs through her life with the last being with Intrepid USA Home Healthcare Services. She enjoyed motorcycle riding with her husband, volunteer service work in the local women's county jail and served on various committees and boards, including The Old Corral Board at 1301 S. Taylor St. She was preceded in death by both paternal and maternal grandparents; a brother, Michael Ray Edens; and her mother. Mr. Stapleton was born June 30, 1920, in Gastonburg, Ala., to Robert Allen and Mamie Pugh Stapleton. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in petroleum engineering. His work of 43 years with Petty Ray Geophysical took he and his family across the United States and around the world. Helen Monroe, daughter of Anna and Jacob Kurth, was born in New York City on Nov. 28, 1910, but grew up on a farm in eastern Nebraska. Helen came to Clayton in 1930 as a newly certified teacher and met and married Dottis Donald "D.D" Monroe in 1933. For many years, the Monroes owned and operated the Clayton Abstract Company. Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Naples Church of Christ with Jerry Dyer officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Texhoma Cemetery under the direction of Dawson-Welch Funeral Home of Texhoma. Born in Canton, Okla., Mr. Fallis spent most of his childhood and graduated from high school in Mooreland, Okla. He worked in the oil field in the Texas Panhandle, Las Vegas, Australia and east Texas, retiring after 32 years, for Halliburton Services. He then moved to Immokalee, Fla., to manage citrus and avocado groves for Barron Collier Company. He then served as a Park Ranger for Collier County for his remaining years. Jerry also served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for a total of 17 years, involved in flotilla, district and national leadership levels. He was also in the Army Reserves. He served as an elder of both the Kilgore Church of Christ and the Naples Church of Christ and has worked for the Lord his whole life. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lahoma "Bunky" Jean, "the Sunshine of his life"; his beloved children, Kathy Honeycutt and husband Mike, Michael Fallis and wife Jennifer; five grandchildren, Lana, Danielle, Ryan, Lee and Michele; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mary Miller was born to William Lewis and Peyton Carroll Miller on July 4, 1916. A graduate of Eldorado High School, she went on to graduate from Amarillo College. She was employed at Amarillo Hardware for a time and then went to the CF&I Steel in Pueblo, Colo., retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. She is preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Stroud and husband Russell; a brother, William Miller and wife, Elizabeth; and a nephew, Don R. Stroud. Mrs. Reese was born June 14, 1919, in Childress, the daughter of Carl C. and Nell Mae Smith Blake. In 1967, she was married to Thomas "Kinnie" Reese. After their marriage, they lived in West Columbia, moving to Ennis in 1979. She retired in 1984 after several years of service as the activity director at the Rebekah Oddfellow Nursing Home in Ennis. She was a successful model and spent some time in Hollywood during the late thirties and mid-forties. She loved music and liked to dance, which led her to become good friends with actor Dinah Shore and dancer Cyd Charisse. In 1944, while spending time with Dinah Shore, she almost caused a major riot of the "unionized' stagehands when she helped Ms. Shore zip up her dress. She later went on to become one of the first corporate pilots in Oklahoma and West Texas. She was the Oklahoma and Texas Women's Championship Golfer in 1959. She was the first volunteer director of "Teen Town" recreational and dance center in Duncan, Okla., during the 1950s. She was a member of Ennis Church of Christ, a past president of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter in Duncan and an auxiliary volunteer at the Ennis Hospital and gift shop for a number of years after her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001 and a sister, Betty Phillips. Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Bennett of Savage, Minn.; two sons, Carl Jobert of Amarillo and Mick Jobert of Frisco; a stepson, Roger Reese of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
