Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Primitive Baptist Church with Bernard Gowens, elder, officiating and David Montgomery, elder, assisting. Burial will be in Earth Cemetery in Earth by Ellis Funeral Home. Mrs. Collins was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Mount Pleasant, Tenn. She married Joe Collins in Olton on Oct. 8, 1936. Mrs. Collins was a lifelong resident of the Muleshoe area. She loved gardening, quilting and cooking everybody's favorite sweets, from peanut butter cookies to strawberry cake. Her greatest love was her family. Katy was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Muleshoe, where she loved to sing. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; a grandson, John Collins; four sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Collins and wife, Darlene, James Collins and wife, Darrene, and Ted Collins and wife, Zetha, all of Dimmitt; nine grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Heckathorn was born Sept. 2, 1942, in Childress to Lester and Elizabeth Anderson Phillips. She married Mike Heckathorn on Oct. 11, 1974, in Arnett, Okla. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Cindy Mahan of Denver, Lisa Burris of Duke, Okla., and Faith Marie Heckathorn of Quanah; two sons, Phillip Mahan of Loveland, Colo., and Michael Mahan of Beeville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mae Purselley FARWELL - Mae Purselley, 101, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006. Purselley on March 12, 1922, in Texico, N.M. Survivors include two daughters, Billie Jean Sosebee of Carrollton and Robbie Lea Payne of Clovis; a son, Jimmie Dale Purselley of Goffstown, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bobby Earl Blackburn WHEELER - Bobby Earl Blackburn, 65, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cornerstone Church with the Rev. Jerry Thomas, pastor of North Beacon Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo, and the Rev. Erron Mercer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mr. Blackburn was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Conehatta, Miss., to Patrick and Thelma Loper Blackburn. He married Rebecca Scales on Jan. 17, 1975, in Portales, N.M. They moved to Briscoe in 1986, where he was in maintenance for the Briscoe schools until he retired in 2001. After he retired, they moved to Wheeler. He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving from 1960 to 1963. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Brad Blackburn of Morton, Miss., Mark Blackburn and wife, Helen, of Keyes, Okla., Gary Blackburn and wife, Denise, of Spearman and Bobby Blackburn and wife, Heather, of Amarillo; two daughters, Mary Blackburn of Wheeler and Tonya Jones and husband, Randy, of Amarillo; his mother, Thelma Holiday of Newton, Miss.; four brothers, Curtis Blackburn and wife, Susan, and Jimmy Blackburn and wife, Carol, all of Newton, Harold Blackburn and wife, Janie, of Jackson, Miss., and Larry Blackburn and wife, Jo, of Decatur, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; a special niece and two nephews, Will Scales and wife, Melissa, of Kelton and Lee Scales of Amarillo; and several other nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Whitehouse Cemetery in Lufkin. Mrs. Burrous was born in Wellington, where she graduated from high school. She married Gene Burrous in Wellington on Oct. 5, 1956. Nell received her master's in nursing and was the director of nursing at Northwest Texas Hospital and St. Anthony's Hospital before teaching health occupation at Caprock High School. Survivors include her husband; a brother, Dan Trew and wife, Elaine, of Fort Worth; a sister-in-law, Joyce Murphy of Houston; a cousin, Phil Trew and wife, Joan, of Fort Worth; six nieces and nephews, Tom, Terry, Tammy, Robert, Gary Allen and Wanda Joyce; seven great-nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Cindy O'Neill of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Frank Charles Petr Dr. Frank Charles Petr, 82, of Amarillo died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006. Rosary was said at 6 p.m. Sunday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Chapel. Mass will be at 1:30 p.m. today in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Dr. Petr was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Big Sandy, Mont. He served 2 years in the Army during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Normandy Campaign Star. He received a Bachelor of Science in agronomy in 1949 and a Master of Science in agronomy in 1952 from Montana State University, where he graduated with honors. He received a Ph.D. in crop breeding in 1959 from Iowa State University. He married Mary Rose Brady on June 6, 1959. Dr. Petr was a research agronomist for the USDA in Aberdeen, Idaho, from 1953 to 1967. He and his family moved to Amarillo in 1967. He was employed by the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, where he became the area agronomist for the Texas Panhandle. His area of specialization was providing crop production and soil management education. He retired from the Extension Service as agronomist emeritus in 1985. Dr. Petr was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed traveling during his retirement. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Rose; a daughter, Laura Macha and husband, Mark, of Lubbock; two sons, Charles Petr and wife, Alison, of San Antonio and Mark Petr of San Francisco; seven sisters, Helen Moes, Lillian Blazek, Mary Nance, Ann Jones, Elizabeth Timmerman, Francis Keller and Evelyn Bitz; and six grandchildren. Palmer Dunn, 84, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Assembly of God with Billy Nickell, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Dunn was born Feb. 16, 1921, to Bertha and Grant Dunn in Tuscaloosa, Ala. During World War II, he helped assemble wartime aircraft. He developed a cemetery in San Angelo before coming to Amarillo in 1957, where he helped develop Memory Gardens Cemetery. He later went to Llano Cemetery, where he became assistant manager and was also top salesman for 30 years. He retired from Llano Cemetery in 1995. Being in the cemetery business, his favorite joke was telling people "he was the last to let them down." He also liked to mention that he and Bear Bryant walked on water together. Every night, he would pray for everyone at his church, his pastor and even others who called and did not belong to First Assembly. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lola Dunn. Survivors include his wife, Charlene; a daughter, Pam Weems and husband, Russell, of Roswell, N.M.; a grandson, Ryan Weems; a granddaughter, Lauren Weems; two stepsons, David Longstreth and Dennis Longstreth, both of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Cindy Woods and husband, Gary; four stepgranddaughters, Christy Deaver, Alicia Longstreth, Meagan Boydstun and Macy Woods; two great- grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
