Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Iglesia Tierra Santa with Rigoberto Padilla, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn- Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Mrs. Escalante was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Menacha. She lived in Amarillo 20 years and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005; two daughters; a son; her parents; two brothers; and a sister. Survivors include six daughters and two sons, Alice Rangel, Frances Elisondo, Mary Ann Ramon and Thomas Escalante, all of Earth, Carmelita Escalante of Amarillo, Eva Loreda of Clovis, N.M., Martha Rendon of Lamont, Calif., and Disidora Vasquez of Weiser, Idaho; two brothers and a sister, Martin Ruiz of Abilene, Jesse Ruiz of Eastland and Toni Vasquez of Dumas; 43 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 1634 N. Woodland St. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ricky Romero Ricky Romero, 74, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Romero was born May 24, 1931, in San Bernardino, Calif., was raised there and moved to Amarillo in 1958. He married Stella Marrujo on Dec. 17, 1949, in Fontana, Calif. He played AAA baseball for the San Francisco Giants. He was a professional wrestler for more than 50 years. He was not only loved by fans in Texas, but all over the world. He was key in breaking through racial barriers in the wrestling world. "Rapid Ricky Romero" was loved by many wrestling fans for decades and was known for throwing miniature sombreros to the fans at the wrestling matches. Ricky paved a way for many wrestlers as well as his own sons and grandsons to enter the professional wrestling profession. Ricky was loved by his family very much. He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Romero in 1985. Survivors inclued his wife, Stella of Amarillo; three sons, Chris Romero and wife Jennifer, Rick Romero Jr. and Mark Romero and wife Sherrilyn, all of Amarillo; two daughters, Yolanda Bell and husband Rick of Lubbock and Melissa Miller of Baytown; a brother, Dario Romero of Fontana; three sisters, Julia Le-Valle, Inez Gomez and Lupe Alvarez, all of Fontana; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He married Geraldine McCalister on Aug. 16, 1952, in Clovis, N.M. Prior to his marriage he served in the U.S. Army's 349th Infantry during World War II. He loved his country and was proud to fly the American flag. Jiggs owned a barbecue restaurant in Perryton before moving back to Donley County in 1971, where he worked as a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clarendon and VFW Post No. 7782. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters. Osage St., Amarillo TX 79103. Mrs. Lowry married Robert C. Lowry in November 1951 in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2000. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served on the Bereavement Committee at First Baptist Church of Tucumcari, N.M. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels in Tucumcari and enjoyed traveling and going to the mountains. She took her first plane ride in 2000, and then went on her first train ride to Chicago. She loved spending time on the boat. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Tucumcari.
