Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Jim Brown, pastor of Monterey Baptist Church of Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Case was born July 17, 1911, at Spanish Fort, the daughter of Walter and Dora Scruggs. She was the oldest of 11 children. She graduated from Bowie High School and attended business school in Dallas. Mrs. Case worked as a secretary in Dallas, moving to Tulsa, Okla., in 1949. She was employed by Amco Oil Co. in Tulsa. She married E. W. Case in June 1957. Mr. Case died in 1989. In 1998, Mrs. Case moved to Amarillo to Park Place Towers. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Brown of Amarillo, Odessa Lindemann of Umbarger and Maureen Abbott of Canyon; and a brother, Bobby Scruggs of Amarillo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anna L. She married Willie Cooper in 1976. Survivors include her husband; seven daughters, Elizabeth Jones, Barbara Polk, Patricia Aldridge, Rachel Cooper, Lisa Cooper, Latasha Cooper and Kristelyn Cooper; four sons, Robert Russell, Charles Russell, Sammy Russell and Anthony Cooper; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- O.L. "Jenks" Jenkins O.L. "Jenks" Jenkins, 84, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rusty Dickerson officiating, and the Rev. Perry Hunsaker and the Rev. Steve Cox assisting. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. O.L. "Jenks" Jenkins was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Richland, Mo. He graduated from Shawnee High School in Joiner, Ark. During World War II, Jenks served in the U.S. Army Air Force. After training in Santa Ana, Calif., and at Mather Field in Sacramento, he became part of the 390th Bombardment Group at Parham in Suffolk, England. As a first lieutenant, he was a navigator and occasional gunner aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress nicknamed the "Shif'less Skonk." He flew on 28 bombing missions to various targets in the European Theater of Operations. On his final mission, he and his crew were forced to parachute from their heavily flak-damaged aircraft over England, just short of a safe landing. For his service, Jenks was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters. After his discharge, Jenks attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxvillle and graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering in 1949. He then moved to Amarillo, where he worked as an engineer, first at Southwestern Public Service Co., then at the Bureau of Mines Helium Activities until his retirement in 1977, He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. O.L. and his beloved wife, Sammie, were very socially active. He served as vice president and president of the Amarillo Square and Round Dance Council in the 1970s. Until his death he remained close friends with the people he met through square dancing, especially with his fellow members of the Reddy Squares. Jenks was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church beginning in 1956, serving faithfully in many, many capacities within the church family. Physically active until his unexpectedly sudden death, he worked out with a personal trainer and studied yoga. O.L. Jenkins was a good-natured, gregarious man who was well-liked by all who knew him, and he will be sorely missed by all. O.L. was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sammie, who died in 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Jenkins of Arlington; a son, Tom Jenkins of Austin; two nieces; and a cousin. Mr. Patterson was born May 16, 1919, in Claude to Clarence and Irene Patterson Sr. He married Verna Mae Garthwait on March 23, 1940, in Amarillo. Frank Patterson was a highly thought of engineer on the Santa Fe Railway. He hired out as a Fireman in 1941 and was promoted to Engineer in 1945. Frank worked on many of the old steam locomotives including the Old Madam Queen Engine 5000. Then with the passing of the Steam Era into the Diesel Age, he retired in 1986. Frank was also a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers until it merged with the United Transportation Union. Frank outlived most of his railroad friends, but there are still a large number who remember him and regret his passing. Frank enjoyed boating, waterskiing and was an avid golfer. He was a kindhearted man who loved his family and friends. Mr. Patterson is remembered by his family as a man who was eager to help others. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna; a grandson, Dean Marsh; three brothers, J.S. Patterson, Darrell Patterson and Clarence Patterson Jr.; and a sister; Nona Wilson. He was raised in Amarillo. The last school he attended was Caprock High School. He worked three years in ministry work in San Antonio with the Victory Outreach Church under Freddie Garcia. Mario worked at various construction jobs. Mario was loved by all the people he met. His greatest gift was his smile and all who knew him well, called him "Cowboy." He will be missed by all his family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles G. Salazar Sr. in September 1973. Survivors include a daughter, Destiny Salazar of Antlers, Okla.; a granddaughter, Audrey Childress of Antlers; his mother, Dolores R. Bowen Sr. and Odessa Winter Bowen. He married Annie Ellis on July 12, 1947, in Wellington. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1941. He was a Golden Gloves boxer in his youth. He served 39 months sea duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Mason, a member of the VFW and First United Methodist Church. He was a retired letter carrier for USPS. He was the Collingsworth County Veterans Service Officer from 1973 to 1991, and also farmed. Fields CLAUDE - Henry Ford Fields, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006. A celebration of his life and Christ's saving grace will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jess Little of Claude First Baptist Church and the Rev. Charles Davenport, Representative of Baptist General Convention of Texas for West Texas, officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow in Claude Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo. Henry Ford Fields, 89, graduated to eternity with his Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at his home in Claude. Henry was born June 26, 1916, in Clarendon. He was the youngest of 14 brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. His parents were pioneer dentist Dr. C. L. Fields and Elizabeth Priddy Fields, who also preceded him in death. He lived most of his growing-up years on the family farm near Groom, where he and his siblings learned faith and hard work. Upon graduation from Groom High School in 1935, Henry earned a football scholarship to West Texas State College in Canyon. He played center, was team co-captain his senior year, earned a BS in physical education and industrial arts and helped build Buffalo Courts. In 1939, Henry began coaching and teaching at Phillips High School in Phillips. His brand of coaching and teaching emphasized character building and encouragement. Henry was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1941, trained with the corps of engineers and became commander of the 27th Special Services Company in 1943, serving with them in the Pacific Islands during World War II. He earned an honorable discharge in 1946 and achieved the rank of Major. On Feb. 27, 1943, Fields married the love of his life, Koma Beryl Mahler, at Fort Meade, Md. Following World War II, the couple made their home in Claude where they have farmed and ranched in the counties of Armstrong, Carson, Hemphill and Roberts for 60 years. Henry also taught woodworking for a number of years after WWII in Claude. Henry belonged to First Baptist Church of Claude where he was humbled to serve for many years as deacon and boys' Sunday school teacher. He was a Master Mason in Claude Lodge No. 719, where he recently earned his 60-year pin and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Fields held membership in Texas Simmental (cattle) Association and American Simmental Association, serving as President of both in the mid-'70s and early 1980s. Henry further served his Lord, his community and his profession through membership on various boards such as Claude Independent School District, Wayland Baptist University, Federal Land Bank and Baptist General Convention of Texas. He earned the distinction of being named to the WTAMU Athletic Hall of Champions in 2000. Henry Fields was blessed to have a family who loved and respected him deeply. Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years; two children: a daughter, Henra Kay Henard and husband Joe of Lake Tanglewood in Amarillo, and a son, Jack Douglas Fields and wife Shelley of Claude. Henry had seven grandchildren, Evan Henard and wife Carrie of Amarillo, NiKay Smith and husband Tracy of Denver, Nancy Fields, Lindsey Fields and Karli Fields, all of Amarillo, Matt Cox and wife Melissa of Canyon and Ben Cox and wife Suzanne of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren. His life was also blessed by numerous relatives and many friends and colleagues. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Claude location of Schooler Funeral Home. Mrs. Orman was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Floydada to Jess and Janie Shurbet. She graduated from Floydada High School in 1936. She married W. L. Orman on July 16, 1938. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1978. Mrs. Orman worked as a bookkeeper and then held the office of County Treasurer for 20 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Juanita Henry. Survivors include two sons, Bill Orman and wife Kaye of Plainview and Larry Orman and wife Cheryl of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. Riley CANADIAN - Otis G. Riley, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006 in Hereford. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Higgins Cemetery in Higgins with Masonic rites by Masonic Lodge No. 855. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian. Mr. Riley was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Higgins to the late Mr. George Riley and Mrs. Glessie Fitzgarrold Riley. He attended schools in Higgins. He married Barbara Rippstein Riley on July 27, 1941, in Arnett, Okla. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2002. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in World War II with the 749th Railway Battalion in 1944. He later served in the Philippines and Korea. He moved to Canadian in 1946 from Higgins. Otis worked for Santa Fe Railway for 42 years as an agent telegrapher. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge No. 855 where he served as past master, was awarded the Golden Trowel and served as secretary for 20 years. He was appointed ODGM of the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1971. He was a member of the Eastern Star where he was a past worthy patron. Otis was a charter member of the Scottish Rite in Lubbock, and a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo. He served as mayor and municipal judge for six years in Canadian. He also served as councilman for one year. Otis owned and operated several businesses in Canadian, and was a member of First Baptist Church. He served as Texas Municipal League President and was a lifetime member of VFW. He was adjutant of American Legion Post 56 for 27 years. Survivors include a son, Les Riley and wife Olivia of Hereford; a brother, F.M. Riley of Rolla, Mo.; two sisters, Dollie Steinle of Booker and Martha Van of Fort Worth; two grandsons, Clif Riley of San Marcos and Patrick Riley of Gunnison, Colo.; two granddaughters, Terry Hazlett and husband Murray and Michele Newton, all of Hereford; and four great-grandchildren, all of Hereford. She married Jose Ruiz Jr. in 1945 in Asherton. Mrs. Ruiz was a homemaker and a member of Iglesia Catolica De San Jose. She was preceded in death by her husband.
