She was an active member of Calvary Pentecostal Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Jan. 29, 2003; and a granddaughter, Jerolyn Sirmon in 1979. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Gen. Dale Hoover Jr., retired Army Airborne Special Forces and Maj. Chaplain Michael Robinson, U.S. Air Force, retired, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Latimer was born May 22, 1924, in Searcy, Ark., to William Bradford and Mae Chaney Latimer. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in November 1942 and was discharged in September 1945. He then promptly re-enlisted. He was stationed in India and flew in the Battle of Burma. He was stationed in Burma for two years until it was regained from the Japanese. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals, two Good Conduct Medals, Asiatic Pacific Theater Award and the Victory Medal. In 1951 he was moved to Amarillo Air Force Base where he met Winifred Virginia Fletcher. They were married on Sept. 29, 1954. Mr. Latimer continued his Air Force career and served as an airplane mechanic at Reese AFB in Lubbock, Japan, Korea, Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, Brooks Aerospace Medical Center in San Antonio and Ottawa, Ontario, with the ambassador for two years. While in Ontario, Winnie's mother suffered a stroke so they returned to Amarillo AFB. After surviving two plane crashes, serving as the flight engineer for numerous generals and proudly serving his country, Mr. Latimer retired from the Air Force in 1968. Mr. Latimer began work as a trim carpenter and flew 27 years as a private pilot. In 1995 he was made sergeant major in the Army. Mr. Latimer was loved by many and will be missed by all that were fortunate to know this remarkable man. He was preceded in death by his wife in December 2001, after 47 years of marriage. Survivors include a close friend and longtime military associate, L. Dale Hoover Jr. of Amarillo; three nieces, Dorothy Johnson of Arkansas, Kim Milburn and Lynette McHam; and a nephew, Don Cranford of Arkansas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Martha Munday Estes Martha Munday Estes, 75, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Ojo Caliente, N.M. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jim Bankhead and Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Martha Estes was born Oct. 17, 1930, to Marcella Walker Munday and Charles Lowell Munday of Amarillo. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a master's degree in music history from Teachers College at Columbia University, New York. She went on to become a registered music therapist through studies at the University of Georgia at Athens. In 1972, she was a founder of the Music Therapy Program at WTAMU, where she taught for 25 years, as well as founder of a clinical program of musical therapy at the Pavilion at Northwest Texas Healthcare System. Mrs. Estes was proud of her early involvement with Junior League of Amarillo. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and had recently been appointed to the Speakers Circuit of Alcoholics Anonymous. She continued practice in the field of music therapy, nationally and internationally, after her retirement from teaching in 1998. She was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in 2001. Music therapy, an allied health service like occupational or physical therapy, is a powerful tool of the healing arts based on the body's response to rhythm. It is available to people of all ages, and is not limited to the hearing population. Some of Mrs. Estes' most rewarding work was with deaf children. From the first experience of a mother's heartbeat, she believed, T.S. Eliot's poetry rings true: "You are the music while the music lasts." She will be remembered and missed for her dynamic engagement with life, her love of travel and adventure, her sense of drama, her wit and her inspired understanding of music. Survivors include a son, Allan Walker Estes and wife Betha of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Jennifer Schneider and husband Jack Sedam, of Oil City, Pa.; a sister, Carolyn Burson of Wimberley; two nieces; four grandchildren, Alison Schneider, Sarah Ausmus, Leslie Estes and Jennifer Estes Minyard; six great- grandchildren; and many friends and former students. Georgia St. Lois Ann Johnson, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, in Nevada. She was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Ida Grove, Iowa, and resided in Las Vegas for 16 years. Lois lived in several states, making friends everywhere she went and with people of all ages, races and economic groups. Lois loved life and living. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, playing bingo and cross stitching. She fancied cats and kittens. She felt great joy from her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Lois was a dedicated professional who worked her way from a temporary secretary after high school into many leadership roles in Texas, Ohio and Nevada, including the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and Odessa. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1983. She always cared about people, especially the disadvantaged, working in Ohio for a children's home and in her latest position for more than 10 years as deputy director of the Nevada Disability Advocacy and Law Center. She helped to better the quality of life for people with disabilities at both the state and national levels. Lois was someone whose spirit kept fighting when her body relented, a patient who beat odds with her uncommon determination and a person who raised spirits of others regardless of cancer and its harsh treatments. She was without question genuine, without question, real. We miss you, Lois. You touched our lives forever. Survivors include her stepmother, Mary Thies; her husband, Marty; two sons, Tim and Troy; six brothers, Don, Bob, Wayne, Dick, Mike and Gerry; two daughters-in-law, Teresa and Diedra; and five grandchildren, Shayne, Dillon, Caleb, Savannah and Scarlett. Georgia St. "Uncle Bob," as he was known, was born Jan. 10, 1927, to Gladys Juhl and Charles Leslie Nelson in Tulsa, Okla. Named after a distant relative, Robert E. Lee, Bob would graduate from Waco High and the University of Houston where he worked on the first broadcast of what would later be known as PBS. Working in the hotel industry in Washington, D. C., Bob spoke of meeting Truman Capote and of witnessing the caisson procession at the funeral of President John F. Kennedy. After becoming blind, Bob returned to Texas where he worked as an X-ray technologist with Scott and White Hospital, where he retired after 17 years. Bob reminisced often of his dear friends in Temple, especially of those in his Unitarian Fellowship. His greatest passion was his music, most especially jazz. In his youth he toured with a swing band playing the trombone. Bob was preceded in death by his father in 1947; his mother in 1980; his brother, Charles "Chuck" Nelson in 1985; and his sister-in-law, Lois, in 1971. Survivors include a niece, Leslie Richardson; four nephews, David, Tony, Scott and Shawn Nelson, their spouses, Vic, Debby, Elaine, and Josefa and their children, Greg and Mark Holland, Ryan Richardson, Brandy, Cody, Justen, Chad, Joey, Tony, Shawn, Stephanie, Omar, Leslie and Jasmine Nelson; and his great- great-nephews and great-great-nieces, Braden, Parker, Alexa, Avery, Brandon, Ambria, Tyler, Klayton, Jayden, Mykala, Dillan, Taylor and Daniel. Georgia St. Mrs. Richardson was born Dec. 28, 1908, to James and Pearl Shaw Corley in Memphis. Ruby and Rich married Dec. 23, 1926, in Breckenridge. Ruby was a lifelong member of Polk Street Methodist Church, PEO Chapter AN and was a volunteer nurse's aide during World War II. Mrs. Richardson was an avid reader and accomplished pianist. Ruby enjoyed her needlework and sewing. Granny was truly a fun loving, gracious, Christian and "Southern" lady who opened her home and heart to the young and old alike. Always with a smile on her face and an encouraging word, Granny was like a "Mother Bear with her cubs" when it came to her family. She was always there to nurture, protect and guide them through their lives. She believed that family, next to God, meant everything. She was preceded in death by four sisters; a brother; and her husband, Joseph Chambers Richardson. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Hanson of Fort Worth; a son, Joe C. Richardson Jr. and wife Susan Dixon Richardson of La Jolla, Calif., and Amarillo; a sister, Corley Sterns of Borger; surviving grandchildren include Richie Richardson, Mary Lynn Holder, Elise Wilkes, James Dixon, Robert Hanson, Peder Hanson and Amy Hanson; and seven great-grandchildren. Woods, 93, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Ziehmer and Tom Curl officiating. Music will be performed by Michael Riggs, Dale Riggs and Ron and Leslie Boerger. Graveside services will be in the Maddox-Parker section of the Miami Cemetery in Miami with Frank Parker, Clifford Parker, Tom Curl, Ron and Leslie Boerger and Bob Morris, Linda Parker and Kennedy Shuler officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Woods was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Fort Worth to John and Eugenia Woods. In 1930, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. While in the Navy he earned his GED. The Navy commissioned him as an officer in 1945 and he served on several ships as a medical officer with duties of Prosthetic Dental Technician and the officer in charge of preparing the dead for burial at sea. Mr. Woods received a medical discharge in 1947. Following his discharge he enrolled in North Texas State University and received bachelor's and master's degrees in education and taught school for 11 years in Corcoran, Calif., Pampa and San Antonio. Mr. Woods married Leona Parker in her parents' home in Miami in April 1954. Soon after their marriage he entered St. Mary's University in San Antonio where he studied for a law degree and received a doctorate of jurisprudence in law. Following law school he and Mrs. Woods moved to Stratford, where he became Sherman County Attorney. He also served 14 years as Justice of the Peace of Sherman County and then served as Sherman County Judge until his retirement. While in Stratford, Mr. Woods was active in First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and a member of the presiding board. He was also a member of the Stratford Lions Clubs and the legal adviser to the Cold Water Manor Nursing Center. At the age of 88 he completed a 10-year research project of writing a full-length book on the Sherman County Cemetery. It is written in genealogical form and can be used for research on families histories. One of the aims in writing the book was in hopes that every unmarked grave in the cemetery would have names on them. Two of his Stratford friends took the project and indeed made headstones for many of the unmarked graves. Immediately following the publishing of the book the ownership and all proceeds were turned over to the Sherman County Historical Society by Mr. Woods. Since moving to Amarillo in 1995, Mr. Woods has been a member of First Christian Church, the Friendship Sunday school class, and the Seniors Happy Timers of the church. He and Mrs. Woods have made their home at The Continental since October 2000. In January 2006 Mr. Woods received the pin and certificate for being in the Masonic Lodge for 70 years. Other organizations that Mr. Woods belonged to are Dumas Masonic Lodge No. 1009 AF&AM, Khiva Shriners of Amarillo, Knights Templar of Texas, Scottish Rite Freemasonry of El Paso, Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas, Amarillo Council 134 and 196, York Rite Bodies of Amarillo, the USS Columbia CL56 Association, the Retired Military Officers Association, American Legion Post 0262 and the State Bar of Texas. He has been listed in the Who's Who in America since 1969. Mr. and Mrs. Woods began to be visitors to the Rio Grand Valley in 1954 and later bought a winter home in McAllen where they enjoyed many great times among the Winter Texans and relatives in the area. Mr. Woods was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters; and a nephew, Jerry Curl of McAllen. Mr. McFarland was born Aug. 24, 1905, in Weir. He attended Texas Tech where he played varsity golf, which was his lifelong hobby. He worked at Pantex, owned Blackstone Cleaners and had a State Farm Insurance Agency for 32 years. Mr. McFarland lived in Amarillo before moving to Canyon 12 years ago. He was a member of the AB Club and Polk Street United Methodist Church. Mr. McFarland's faith in God and love of people sustained him for 100 years. He married Ruth McGee in 1933 in Sayre, Okla. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1993, in Amarillo. He married Thelma Foster on Aug. 10, 1993, in Amarillo. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ with Mikel Petersen and the Rev. Paul Baskin officiating. Burial was in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton. Mr. Lollis was born May 28, 1918, in Longview. He lived in the Perryton area since 1941, moving from Portales, N.M. He was a farmer and rancher, retiring in 1996. He married Christine Earwood on Sept. 16, 1939, in Portales. He was a member of Church of Christ in Perryton, the New Hope Community and the Wheel Go Motorcycle Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Eli and Viola Bickley Lollis; his wife; a son, James Ray Lollis; and three brothers, Avery Lollis, Grover Lollis and Virgil Lollis. He was employed by Amarillo Hardware from 1965 to 1966, by Morrow Thomas Hardware as a salesman in Amarillo from 1966 to 1969, by Zork Hardware in Albuquerque, N.M., from 1969 to 1970 and by Amarillo Hardware from 1970 to 1991. He was a co-owner of Science and Service, currently in Amarillo and Olton, founded in 1991. He was co-owner of B&T Ag Distributing, currently in Amarillo, founded in 1993. He owned Trimble Farms Inc., currently in Plainview, founded in 2000. He was active in Texas Cattle Feeders Association and Texas Water Utilities Association.
