Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Shaeffer officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Blakley was born in Aspermont and had lived in Amarillo since 1956. Survivors include five cousins, Robert Gofinch and wife Sue, Crystal Pena, Tommy Gofinch and Lorraine Hill, all of Amarillo, and Gilbert Gofinch of Burleson. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- James "Flash" Davis James "Flash" Davis, 53, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 27, 1952, in Amarillo to Duwayne and Mabel Wright Davis. He was a talented woodworker. Survivors include a brother, Jeff Davis; and special friends, Malissa and Juan Martinez. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cherry P. Lane Cherry P. Lane, 76, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Memories at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Kurt Oheim officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Lane was born June 13, 1929, in Amarillo to Charles Herbert Mixon and Lora Allard Mixon. She grew up in Amarillo, the fourth of six children, attended school in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. On June 6, 1948, she married Rex Lexter Lane in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1988. After several years living in various places in South Texas and Louisiana, they moved to Southwest Kansas (Moscow, then later Ulysses) in 1953 where they lived for 20 years. They then moved to Wilburton, Okla., and lived there until Rex's death. In 1989 she moved back to Amarillo. Cherry was a loving mother and wife, raising six children and later taking care of her aging mother for the last 14 years of her mother's life. Through the years she was always there for numerous family and friends, giving them a helping hand, a home-cooked meal or a place to stay until they could get back on their feet. Besides her husband, Mrs. Lane was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard Mixon and Charles "Bud" Mixon; a sister, Margaret Nancy Mixon; an infant son, Tony Keith Lane; and a daughter, Sara Janiece Henson. Survivors include a brother, Lewis Mixon and wife S.E. of Denham Springs, La.; a sister, Iris Busby of Amarillo; three sisters-in-law, Myrle Rhea Mixon of Westlake, La., Barbara Mixon of Phoenix and Treva Vickers and husband Buddy of Anderson; three sons, Rex Stephen and wife Hilary of Rochester, Minn., Leland Kent and Bradley Joseph, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Cherry Lynette Hickman and husband Darrel of Ulysses, and Lorie Boyd of Woodland Park, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Kim Schubert of Jetmore, Kan., Jason Hickman of Ulysses, Clare Lane and Matthew Lane, both of Minneapolis, Cory Henson and Casey Henson, both of Rock Springs, Wyo., Nathan Lane of Fritch, Ryan Lane and Jacob Lane, both of Amarillo, and Cassie Boyd of Woodland Park; five great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends. Mrs. Busby was born July 9, 1929, in Missouri and moved to Amarillo in 1976 from Hereford. She was a cashier for parking at the airport. She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Garner; and two husbands, Harold Garner and Lawrence Kempf. Survivors include three sons, Ralph Garner of Hermittes, Mo., Eugene Kempf and Paul Kempf, both of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Patricia; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bobbie Lee Mixon Bobbie Lee Mixon, 81, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Robert Field officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum. Mr. Mixon was born July 1, 1924, in Amarillo and raised in Borger. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a motorcycle messenger. He moved to Amarillo in 1948. Mr. Mixon married Clara Joe Wellborn in 1984. She preceded him in death in 1992. He was a lineman for SPS for 37 years before retiring in 1986. Mr. Mixon was a charter member of the Gold Wing Riders Association of Amarillo. He was also a member of the Sport Car Club of America and of the AMA for 20 years. Mr. Mixon was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Mixon; and a brother Bill Mixon Jr. Survivors include a son, Kyle Mixon of Amarillo; two daughters, Linda Lee Topham of El Cajon, Calif., and Sharon Anderson of Lubbock; a brother, Don Mixon of Chama, N.M.; and 11 grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lenora Ann Dickson Lenora Ann Dickson, 91, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in Round Rock. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with family members officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Dickson was born in Dallas to Elbert and Alma Ray. She lived in Amarillo from 1939 until 1986 before moving to Round Rock. She married Homer Dickson on May 28, 1939, in Seymour. They had been married 43 years when he died in 1982. Mrs. Dickson was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Survivors include two sons, Herb Dickson and wife Sandra of Austin and Joe D. Dickson and wife Karen of Santa Fe; a sister, Betty Morrison and husband Orvil of Parker, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Steven Dickson and wife Kandis of Del Rio, Jennifer Willicut and husband Rob of Cleveland, Sally Dickson of Austin and Karen Dailey and husband Doug of Portland, Ore.; and seven great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to a hospice of choice. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Nelson "Nelly" Dovel David Nelson "Nelly" Dovel, 83, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006. A private burial will be at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday in Llano Cemetery with military honors provided by Fort Hood. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Central Church of Christ Chapel with Dan Bouchelle of Central Church of Christ, Chaplain Chris Kutin and Glenn Walton officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. David Dovel was born March 21, 1922, in his home in Stratford. He grew up in Stratford and Odonald, where he graduated from high school. In his high school years he played football as well as the slide trombone. After he completed high school, he was drafted by the Army and was sent to Camp Adair, Ore., for two years. He then went to the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan, where he fought for his country in World War II. He was a man in action for two years, earning two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for his bravery in combat. Upon returning to America he met and married Mary Louise Garner; they moved to Plainview, and set up a dairy farm of 100 cows. David and Mary then moved to Amarillo in 1947, where Nelson worked as a cabinetmaker and designer engineer until he retired from Maywood in 1990. Nelson was a planner, woodworker, writer, gardener, rock enthusiast, builder, wonderful husband, father and friend. He was a gentle, kind and a very loving man. Even though the past few years he was not able to express himself, he continued to show his love for live, and we will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Clodell Dovel Cook. Survivors include his wife, Mary; his son, Randy and wife Teresa and their daughters, Katie and Kallie of Costa Mesa, Calif.; his daughter, Anita Shawgo of Amarillo and her children, Eric Shawgo and wife Katrina of Austin and her daughter, Sarah Shawgo of Amarillo, his daughter, Debbie Ross and husband Danny and their two sons, Taylor and Matt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his son, David and wife Anne and their three boys, Davie, Adam, and Luke of Milford, Neb. Braboy, 98, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, in Jeffersonville, Ind. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Carey Skinner of Trinity Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Mr. Braboy was born Jan. 30, 1908, in Fannin County to William Stanley Braboy and Lillie M. Gardner Braboy, the fourth of six children. J.R. met Mary Ethel Taber while students at Arlington State College in Arlington. They married in 1932. He earned his bachelor's degree there and later graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton, earning his master's degree. J.R. and Ethel taught at various locations in Montague County and later in Palo Pinto County, where he served as a superintendent of public schools. Their only son, John Jr., born in 1947 in Wichita Falls, now resides in Sellersburg, Ind. He is president and chief administrative officer of Mid-America College of Funeral Service in Jeffersonville. Following retirement from teaching, J.R. and his family moved to Amarillo in the early 1950s, where he and his family were longtime members of Trinity Baptist Church. J.R. and his brother, Neil, owned and operated Stanley's Drive-In. He was active in real estate and commercial development ventures with his business partner, R.F. Dryden, until his retirement in 1983. During his retirement, he was actively engaged in his love for family genealogy, photography and electronics. Poor health necessitated his relocation to Southern Indiana in 2001, where he lived for several years with his son and daughter-in-law, Rebecca. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Providence Retirement Community in New Albany, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife; three sisters, Allie M. Wheat, Vernice Hazlewood and Weltha Devenport; and two brothers, William H. Braboy and Neil S. Braboy. Survivors include a son, John Braboy Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Sellersburg; four grandchildren, Ashley Leigh Byers of Amarillo, Mary Kaitlyn Braboy of Sellersburg, and Tahnia Trevino and John R. Braboy III, both of New Albany; two nephews, Dean Devenport of Sun City West, Ariz., and Dale Hazlewood of Amarillo; a niece, Nathalie Manning of Houston; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He came to Pampa in 1966 from Big Lake. He worked for Exxon for 43 years, retiring in 1978 as a managing supervisor. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Big Lake Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Bladen. They both lived most of their lives in Groom. She was homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in White Deer. Retha was preceded in death by her parents. He was also a concrete contractor, antique dealer and restorer as well as an avid hunter and collector of Indian artifacts. Mrs. Heathington was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to James Lafayette and Georgia Simmons Frazier. She grew up and attended school in Tuscaloosa. She was the widow of Joe Frank Heathington Sr., whom she married July 23, 1944, in Clarendon. She had lived in Tulia since 1946, where she continued to live until August 2004. She was moved to Abilene to be close to her son and daughter-in-law after the death of her husband, Joe, in 2004. During her years at Tulia, she was active in golf, bowling and raising her only child. She was very active in the community and farming area around Tulia. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Mrs. Thompson was born July 24, 1936, in Wellington to John Alexander Coleman and Lettie Mary Hooten Coleman. She married William James "Jimmy" Thompson on Dec. 21, 1959, in Dozier. She was a teacher and had a state teacher's certificate in Home Economics and Special Education. She taught at Clarendon, McLean, in the prison system and in surrounding towns. She also worked together with her husband while he was sheriff of Donley County. She was a resident of Clarendon since 1976 and lived in other surrounding communities in the Texas Panhandle. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarendon and Clarendon Red Hatter's Club. Survivors include two sons, William Thompson and wife Lynn of Clarendon and Walt Thompson of Borger; a brother, Donald Coleman of McLean; a sister, Laverne Bentley of Dozier; and two grandchildren, Todd Thompson of Clarendon and Emilie Thompson of Amarillo.
