Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Shewbert, a longtime resident of Amarillo, moved to Boerne two years ago. She was a charter member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Shewbert of Boerne and Gary Shewbert of Amarillo; a sister, Naomi Woodard of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Baker Kenneth R. Baker, 80, of Amarillo died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with Bob Schroeder, minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Baker was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Ashland, Kan., to Benjamin and Minnie Baker. Kenneth attended school in Ashland. Immediately on graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Austrian Theater during World War II. He worked with his brothers as carpenters and graduated from Wichita University. Kenneth married Janice Lee Birkhead on July 2, 1963. He was transferred here from Wichita, Kan., in September 1963 by Sears Roebuck & Co. and later he worked for the Hub and Dillard's. He was a member and deacon of Paramount Terrace Christian Church for many years. He also worked with Boy Scout Troop 65. He later attended Jan Werner Adult Day Care. Mrs. Ellington was born Sept. 1, 1919, in North Carolina to Luther and Holland Basden Thompson. She worked at St. Anthony's Hospital and retired from there after 24 years. She lived in Amarillo since 1968 where she taught at St. Andrew's Preschool and The Opportunity School. Mrs. Buchanan graduated from high school in Miss Doherty's College Preparatory School in Cincinnati in 1956 and from Garland Junior College in Boston. She received her bachelor's degree from West Texas State University. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild and the choir. Survivors include two sons, Christopher Scot Buchanan of Dallas and William Gordon Buchanan of Amarillo; a daughter, Angeline Buchanan Arnold of Wildorado; her father, Richard VanVyven of Florida; a brother, Dale VanVyven of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren. Hollabaugh, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Harold was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Rising Star to Luther and Florance Hollabaugh. He was the oldest son in a family of three children. He entered the Army in 1945 and served during World War II. He married Dorothy H. Fisher on April 5, 1947, in Amarillo. He worked at Pantex from 1959 until his retirement in 1992. While at Pantex, he worked as a Production Technician in the Manufacturing Division, later transferring to the fire department, where he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and finished his career as a security guard in the security division. After his retirement, he worked as a gate attendant for Lake Tanglewood Security until health problems prevented his continuance. He loved camping, fishing and bowling. He especially loved his only grandson and four great-grandchildren. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Palo Duro Lodge No. 1239, and was also a lifetime member of the Scottish Rites. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy H. Hollabaugh; a daughter, Theresa L. Pannell and husband Deryal of Amarillo; a son, Terry A. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Winfred Moore officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Howard Andrew Chamblin was born May 13, 1969, in Lubbock to Ed and Caroline Chamblin. He moved with his family to Amarillo when he was 3 weeks old. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1987 where he was active on the golf team, the Latin Club and the academic decathalon program. He always considered his AHS calculus teacher, Dale Martin, to be his first mentor. He also loved music, studying keyboard at WTAMU and under the tutelege of Amarillo Symphony Conductor Robert Bernhardt. In 1991 he graduated from Rice University with a degree in mathematics. He started his Ph.D. program at Oxford University before he was invited to move to Cambridge University to study with the world- famous theoretical physicist, Professor Steven Hawking, widely proclaimed as Einstein's heir. Under Professor Hawking's tutelage, he obtained a Ph.D. in theoretical physics in 1997. Returning to the United States, he did a three-year post-doctoral study at MIT, before taking a position at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2000. While living in the Southwest, he took great pride in climbing all of the Fourteeners in Colorado. As part of the Hawking Group, he published more than 30 adjudicated papers on the subjects of general relativity and the origins of the universe. He delivered these papers at conferences around the world, including Israel, France and Switzerland. He loved research but he also loved lecturing and teaching, once receiving a standing ovation for a lecture he gave at the University of Chicago. In 2003 he moved to the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky where he was assistant professor and guest lecturer in physics, at the time of his death. Dr. Chamblin is survived by his parents, Ed and Caroline Chamblin of Amarillo; his grandfather, Andrew Warren Stowe of Amarillo; a brother, Jonathan Chamblin of Bernalillo, N.M.; an aunt and uncle, Joan and J.G. Serrata and cousins James Serrata, Edward Serrata, Lucinda Serrata and Janine Serrata, all of San Francisco; as well as cousins Kim Galloway Holston and Mark Galloway of Amarillo and Rhonda Boyce of Austin. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Lee Harmon. He was reared and educated in Amarillo. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. After the war he returned to Amarillo and worked as a welder. He was a member of Pipe Fitters Union 196 in Amarillo. Mr. Morris moved to Waller in June 2005 to be near family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Harline Morris. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. David Dovel was born March 21, 1922, in his home in Stratford. He grew up in Stratford and Odonald, where he graduated from high school. In his high school years he played football as well as the slide trombone. After he completed high school, he was drafted by the Army and was sent to Camp Adair, Ore., for two years. He then went to the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan, where he fought for his country in World War II. He was a man in action for two years, earning two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for his bravery in combat. Upon returning to America he met and married Mary Louise Garner; they moved to Plainview, and set up a dairy farm of 100 cows. David and Mary then moved to Amarillo in 1947, where Nelson worked as a cabinetmaker and designer engineer until he retired from Maywood in 1990. Nelson was a planner, woodworker, writer, gardener, rock enthusiast, builder, wonderful husband, father and friend. He was a gentle, kind and a very loving man. Even though the past few years he was not able to express himself, he continued to show his love for live, and we will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Clodell Dovel Cook. Survivors include his wife, Mary; his son, Randy and wife Teresa and their daughters, Katie and Kallie of Costa Mesa, Calif.; his daughter, Anita Shawgo of Amarillo and her children, Eric Shawgo and wife Katrina of Austin and her daughter, Sarah Shawgo of Amarillo, his daughter, Debbie Ross and husband Danny and their two sons, Taylor and Matt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his son, David and wife Anne and their three boys, Davie, Adam and Luke of Milford, Neb. She was disabled and was also a former sales clerk for Texaco. In her early life, she loved dancing and in her later years she loved bingo, lotto and socializing with her friends. Her family always comes first. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Opal Beck. Jim served on the board of directors for First National Bank in Hereford, was a past president of the Hereford School Board, an avid supporter of the Hereford Whiteface Booster Club, a supporter of the Hereford 4-H Club and a member of Hereford First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Nell was born March 4, 1928, in Childress County. She was a member of Central Christian Church of Childress. She served as a member of the regional, state and national boards of the Disciples of Christ. She and Harry Thaten were married Dec. 16, 1945, in Childress. He preceded her in death in 1996. They owned a commercial contracting business in Childress and Dallas. She served as president of the county library board and was chairman of the library building committee. She was a member of the Mayflower Society, National Society of Magna Charta Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was a published author of the National Genealogical Society. Her parents, Lonnie and Myrtle Byars, were pioneers of Childress County. Lemert and Mildred Shay Lemert. She was the older sister to Annette Louise Lemert-Larrabee of Liberal and James Rex Lemert of Amarillo, Texas. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1953. Bo attended Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., after which she completed her Bachelor of Nursing degree at Kansas University in 1957. Following graduation, she was an instructor of Public Health Nursing at KU Medical Center. Betty Jo Lemert was married to Dr. Douglas Dean Sheafor on the winter solstice Dec. 21, 1958. Their three children are William Bramhill "Bram" Sheafor of Longmont, Colo., Nathan David Sheafor of Grants Pass, Ore., and Alison Elizabeth Sheafor-Joy of Arlington, Wash. The family has lived in the Potwin neighborhood of Topeka since 1963.Many have been touched by Bo's generosity, service and compassion. In this spirit, her reach extended to the international community. She was past president of the Topeka Chapter of the American Field Service. She expanded her family by hosting numerous international students and teachers including Baili, Nan and Benjy, Zhang of Topeka. Bo belonged to Chapter EP of the PEO Sisterhood. She was a board member of the Cross-Cultural Studies Program, past co-chairman and board member for the Council Grove Conference, charter member of International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine and Program Committee member for the 2005 ISSSEEM conference. She was also a supporter of the Topeka Natural Foods Co-op for more than 25 years. She was partnered with her brother and sister in the family farming and ranching business of B.H. Lemert & Sons and Millie Corp. Bo and Alison established the AlBo Glass Studio at her home in 1991. Her love for glass art was reflected in her beautiful and colorful designs created at AlBo Glass. She was passionately dedicated to managing AlBo Glass and especially enjoyed developing friendships and connections in the art community, both locally and worldwide.
