Hamel Leo F. Hamel, 80, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Monsignor Arturo Mesa of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Hamel was born July 15, 1925, in Armstrong County to Charles A. Hamel and Blanch M. Braddock Hamel. He was a Seabee in the Navy during World War II. He had been a supervisor with Panhandle Steel Erectors for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and a sister, Bertha Leard. Survivors include a son, Joe Hamel of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Glisson of Amarillo; a grandson, James Glisson and wife, Ashley, of Amarillo; a great- granddaughter, Kaori Glisson of Amarillo; two brothers, Andrew Hamel of Madill, Okla., and Jim Hamel of Amarillo; and three sisters, Edna Allen of Amarillo, Elizabeth Dawkins of Claude and Emma Lou Tasco of Los Lunas, N.M. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Helen Lofton McDonald Helen Lofton McDonald, 76, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Washington Avenue Christian Church in Amarillo with Jim Shelburne, minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. McDonald was born June 27, 1929, in Megargel to Herbert D. Cox and Iris B. Cox. She graduated from Lefors High School and attended Frank Phillips College, Amarillo College and West Texas State University. She transferred to Amarillo from Pampa with Southwestern Bell Telephone, where she retired. She was also employed at First National Bank of Pampa and Gordon, Gordon and Buzzard Law Firm. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Pilot Club of Amarillo, where she served as treasurer and president. She was involved with mental health services and served on the National Alliance for Mental Health Board for two years. She also served as librarian at the MHMR facility. She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church, where she taught the Homebuilders Sunday School Class until she became ill. She loved her Lord and tried to serve him in community service. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth D. Cox and Charles H. Cox; and her first husband, Onnie N. Lofton. Survivors include her husband, Richard E. McDonald; two sons, Johnny N. Lofton and D.D. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Papp was born and raised in Hungary. Prior to immigrating to the United States in 1950, he was the Hungarian National Coach for several sports. He married Margaret Fruhwirth in Hungary in 1938. He was a longtime employee of St. Mary's Catholic Church since 1951. He was known affectionately by generations of St. Mary's school children as their grandpa, "Mr. Pop." He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice and Virginia, and a brother, Kenneth. Johnson WELLINGTON - Ober Vaughan "O.V." Johnson, 91, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with his family and the Rev. Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Haskell to William Edward Johnson and Edith Lelora Jones Johnson. He married Wandell Berryman on Oct. 9, 1942, in Champaign, Ill. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering and had 45 years of service with the Texas Highway Department. Upon retirement from the Highway Department, he started Ober J Engineering, now OJD Engineering, with sons, Jamie and Dickie. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Collingsworth County Museum and First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jon Johnson of Levelland, Jamie Johnson and Dickie Johnson, both of Wellington, and Barry Johnson of Round Rock; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was very active at Full Gospel Community Worship Center and with the Huntoon Club. Maxine loved working in her flower garden, arranging flowers and sewing. Mrs. Moore was born April 12, 1924, in Wheeler to James Barksdale Calcote and Goldie Trimble Calcote. She lived in Wheeler almost all of her life. She married R.O. "Red" Lister in November 1942. He died in December 2001. Mrs. Moore married Hutch Moore, and he died in 1980. She worked as an LVN. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Wheeler. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, and a sister.
