Gay FARWELL - Jimmy V. Gay, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis, N.M. Mr. Gay was born July 27, 1930, in Bovina to Reba Leona Raburn Gay and Bonnie Britt Gay on the Gunn place. He was a member of Parkland Baptist Church for more than 30 years. Survivors include a son, Jimmy R. Gay of Portales, N.M.; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Dianne Brown of Shreveport, La., and LaJeanne Rushing of Ruston, La. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mrs. Cooley was born April 30, 1923, in Arnett. Her parents were John and Elva Rucker Campbell. Lila married Oren Cooley on Nov. 2, 1940, in Arnett. They farmed and ranched south of Arnett until 1952, when they began managing various ranches in the Texas Panhandle and Kansas. They ranched in Texline before moving to Hartley in 1964. Lila worked for the Hartley Truck Stop CafH for more than 20 years, and she retired in 1995. She attended First Baptist Church in Hartley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter; a great-grandchild; five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include three sons, Oren Cooley and wife, June, of Dawn, Berkley "Buck" Cooley and wife, Mary, of Johnstown, Colo., and Danny Cooley and wife, Kae, of Hartley; a daughter, Glenda Spriggs and husband, James, of Marfa; a brother, T.V. Mr. Carter was born July 9, 1922, in Evening Shade, Ark., and had been a resident of Pampa since 1930. He married Wanda Roberts on June 15, 1952, in Lefors. He was a lab technician at Cabot Corp. for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed at Pampa Army Air Base, then serving in Italy with the 15th Air Force 52nd Fighter Group. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Dr. Katz was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Sylvia and Irving Rothstein. She married Paul Katz on Aug. 9, 1968, in Hiawatha, Kan. She attended Spring Valley, N.Y., High School, received a bachelor of arts in anthropology from the University of Arizona in 1966 and earned three graduate degrees in anthropology from the University of Kansas. She had wanted to be an anthropologist from age 6, when she began watching the 6 a.m. Sunrise Semester classes in anthropology. She taught anthropology at the college level for 15 years, achieving the rank of associate professor. She also served as director of the Division of Business Administration, Social Sciences and Multidisciplinary Studies at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She was principal investigator of PRIAM, a cultural and natural resources consulting firm she established in 1985. Dr. Katz conducted fieldwork in prehistoric and historic archeology for more than 30 years. Her primary interests included the study of human adaptation at the mountain-plains periphery, archeology of arid lands and lithic technology. She conducted inventory, assessments and mitigation projects in archeology for state and federal agencies, private companies and individuals. Her recent work included the analysis of excavations at a Late Plains Village site in the southeastern Texas Panhandle and a monograph about an intensive survey of Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument and adjacent portions of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. She researched and created a large traveling exhibit on the natural and cultural history of the playa lakes region, which received the American Association of Museum's "Excellence in Exhibition" in 2005 for its content and innovative design. At the time of her death, she was the editor of the Plains Anthropologist, an academic peer-review journal concerned with the anthropology and archeology of the Great Plains of North America, an area covering 13 states and three Canadian provinces. She was active in the Panhandle Archeological Society and was a member of Temple B'Nai Israel in Amarillo. Jess Little, pastor of First Baptist Church of Claude, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Burton was born May 4, 1925, in Cameron, N.M., to Paul and Edith Mote. She attended school at Wheatland, N.M. She married Cloyd Burton on April 19, 1941, in Clovis, N.M. They lived in eastern New Mexico for a time and then moved to the Washburn community in Armstrong County in September 1943. Mrs. Burton was a member of First Baptist Church in Claude and the Fairview Busy Bee Home Demonstration Club. She particularly enjoyed the Searchers Sunday School class, of which she was a member for many years. Mrs. Burton was a homemaker, loving wife and mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed. She loved her God, her family and her church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and a brother. He married Peggy Bledsoe on June 12, 1954, at Buchanan Street Baptist Church in Amarillo. He was a Baptist and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Taylor worked as a shift supervisor at the Southwestern Public Service Plant. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James M. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Ms. Thompkins was born Dec. 6, 1962, in Helena, Mont., to Shirley Odean Bullock and Tommy Yukovanko. She graduated from Petrolia High School in Petrolia in May 1981. After graduation, she lived and worked in Quanah until moving to Dodson in 1989. Darlene was a faithful member of Dodson Church of the Nazarene and Sunday school. She was a willing servant at church dinners and served for 14 years as the VBS refreshments leader. Renae Haiduk officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Wright was born Feb. 12, 1935, in Sayre, Okla., and attended school in Borger. Philip was a standout athlete at Borger, competing in football, basketball and baseball. From there, he went on to a spectacular football career at West Texas State University, where he earned the prestigious title of All-American his senior year, playing on the team that went on to win the Tangerine Bowl. Philip's football career ended in Canada, where he was injured while playing with the B.C. Lions in the Canadian Football League. Philip returned to WTSU to earn his master's degree in education and began his teaching and coaching career at Horace Mann Junior High. After two years, Philip moved to Palo Duro High School, where he taught and coached as well. After five years at Palo Duro, Philip decided to retire from coaching in order to spend more time with his family. He joined the Tascosa teaching staff in 1966 and stayed there until his retirement 23 years later. He was preceded in death by his mother, Opal Griffin of Borger; his stepfather, Hugh Griffin of Borger; and a sister, Ramona Berry of Oklahoma City. He worked as a salesman for most of his life before retiring from Affiliated Foods in the late 1990s. Mr. Warren was a loving and caring father and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Warren in 1947 and his wife, Judy Brooks Warren in 1995. He grew up in Childress and later served with the Navy. He married Doris Morehead on Sept. 11, 1954, in Roswell, N.M. Together, they shared their lives and raised their family in Amarillo. He was president of Jim Madison & Associates. He had owned and operated Madison Convenience Store since 1996. He was a member of Tascosa Country Club and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends and family. "Jimpa" was especially proud of all of his grandchildren whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 8, 2000. He married Mary Lou Ramon in Amarillo on June 23, 1973. His family remembers that he was always willing to lend anyone a helping hand. He loved family cookouts, playing with his grandchildren and listening to oldies rock and roll music. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Fish, and a son, Glynn Dale Fish. He was a grouchy old man, but will be missed by all who loved him. Survivors include his wife, Kristin. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsewhere Alvis E. Tabor RICHARDSON - Alvis E. Tabor, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Pampa with family members officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Tabor was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Whitt to Dan Franklin Tabor and Iva Willis Tabor. During World War II, he worked in the defense industry in California. He was a 1947 graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, majoring in agriculture. In 1952, he and his partners, Marvin Sparks and Johnny Truelove, founded Vibra Whirl and Co. in Panhandle. The firm manufactured athletic whirlpool baths and sports equipment and constructed football stadiums, all-weather running tracks and tennis courts. Vibra Whirl remains the oldest sports surfacing company in America. In 1972, Mr. Tabor moved to Richardson and established Vibra Whirl's Construction Division offices in Dallas and Houston. In 1980, he retired as chairman of the board and sold his interests to spend more time with his family and enjoy his second home at Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island. He enjoyed fishing on his boat with his friends and family, and took particular joy in helping children catch their first fish. Mr. Tabor was a longtime member and assistant chief of the Panhandle Volunteer Fire Department. He served as member and president of the Panhandle School Board and was an active leader in many charitable activities, including the Carson County Fair. He was an officer and 25-year member of Lions Club International. Mr. Clark passed away peacefully surrounded by family members, Friday, Feb. 17, in Burleson after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Wayne was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Clarksville to Ada and Clarence Clark. At one year of age he moved to Borger. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum for 10 years and by Ameripol Synpol for 18 years as a production supervisor. Wayne spent the last five years working for Total Fina as an operator. He lived in Orange for 23 years and spent the last six months of his life with his family in the Fort Worth area. Wayne loved to work, fish and spend time with his grandkids. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and credited the program, and, most of all, our very faithful and loving God with helping him find sobriety the last few years of his life. Wayne was loved by so many and will be missed greatly, but we rejoice that he is now in the presence of the One who loves him most. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Emery J.
