Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, in Amarillo, with military rites by DAV chapter No. 26. Mr. Brown was born March 1, 1927. Survivors include a son, M.J. "Bud" Brown of Amarillo; a daughter, Virginia Hughes of Deming, N.M.; five brothers, Guy Robert Brown of Fort Worth, Nathan Brown of Arlington, Bill Brown and Jesse Brown, both of Fredrick, Okla., and Harold Brown of Tennessee; two sisters, Naomi Preston of Oklahoma City and Jerry Brown of Alabama; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Juanita Kitchens BORGER - Juanita Kitchens, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006. Les Sharp, pastor of Faith Covenant Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa. Mrs. Kitchens married Kelly Kitchens on Sept. 28, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. She served as a corporal in the Women's Army Corps in World War II in England and Germany. Survivors include two sons, Joe Kitchens of Borger and Jon Kitchens of Tyler; two brothers, Lyndall Keel of Oklahoma City and Don Keel of Terrell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lillard was born Oct. 3, 1945, in Houston to Mr. John and Mrs. Bonnie Prince Wentz. She married Phillip Lillard on June 5, 1967, in Durant, Okla. Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Bartley of Memphis, Sheryl Hughes of Amarillo and Lisa O'Brien of Austin; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Don Wentz of Garland. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Virginia Weis Renner PAMPA - Virginia Weis Renner, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Friona Cemetery in Friona with the Rev. Jim Powell, pastor of Hobart Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Renner was born July 27, 1917, in Shattuck, Okla. She married John G. Renner on May 25, 1933, in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1978. She was a resident of Pampa since 1991, moving from Canyon. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was also preceded in death by a son, Fabian Renner, in 1973. Survivors include three sons, Clyde Renner and wife Ruth of Friona, Donnie Renner and wife Betty of Pampa and Jerry Renner and wife Harriet of Canyon; four brothers, Vilo Weis of Keene, Vernon Weis of College Place, Wash., Harry C. Weis of Bakersfield, Calif., and Viddian Weis of Perryton; three sisters, Vivian Cozart of Cisco, Denise Werner of College Place and Viola Stevens of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Amarillo Benita Hertel Benita Hertel, 72, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Darren Hutchinson, grandson, officiating. Mrs. Hertel was born June 27, 1933, in Henderson, Ky., was raised there and was a resident of Amarillo for more than 50 years. She married Robert Hertel in 1952 in Henderson. He passed away in 2002. She was a member of the Eastern Star and loved working with arts and crafts. She was a homemaker and loved being "Grandma" to her grandchildren. She was a Baptist. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Lawlis; a sister, Mary Taylor; and two brothers, James Gibson and Rudolf Gibson. Survivors include two sons, Robert "Bill" Hertel Jr. and Kenneth Hertel, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Linda Young of Lubbock; two brothers, Sterling Gibson of Amarillo and Robert Gibson of Evansville, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kelly Don Kellison Kelly Don Kellison, 52, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006. Osage St. Mr. Kellison was born July 19, 1953, in Plainview to H.J. and Joann Kellison. They moved to Amarillo in 1954. Mr. Kellison graduated from Amarillo High School in 1971. He married Susan Mayes in 1974. Also in 1974 he joined IBEW local 602 and worked until an illness retired him in 2001. Mr. Kellison was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather. Kelly will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Susan; a daughter, Jennifer Kellison and her soon- to-be husband, Gabriel Cortinas of Amarillo; two sons, Jeffrey and Jane Kellison and Jordan Kellison, all of Amarillo; his mother and father, Joann and H.J. Young Billy J. "B.J." Young, 77, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St., with Bob Thomas, chaplain of Odyssey Hospice, officiating. Mr. Young was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Chillicothe. He moved to Amarillo in 1948 from Bowie. He worked as a brakeman and conductor for Burlington Northern Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 1990. Mr. Young served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the United Transportation Union, the Burlington Northern Retirees Association, the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, and the Church of Christ. He married Georgia Lain in 1948 in Dinuba, Calif. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sue Nelson and husband Neal and Vickie Crow and husband Don, all of Amarillo, and Lynn Young of Austin; two sons, Tracy Young and wife Jamie and Tony Young and wife Janice, all of Amarillo; a sister, Doris Brown of Denver; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. Hancock, 63, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2006. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Hancock was born May 24, 1942, in Greenville, Mich. He served two terms in Vietnam and was a retired gunnery sergeant from the Marine Corps. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. Edward M. Ainsworth Sr., 85, made his final flight Feb. 26, 2006, in the VA Hospital in Big Spring. Mr. Ainsworth had recently moved to Big Spring from Austin. He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Gonzales. Ed served as a pilot during World War II in the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded many honors including the Air Medal and the Purple Heart. While flying a mission over Germany, his plane was shot down and he became a prisoner of war for 13 months. Ed retired from the U.S. government as an IRS supervisor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, June Annell. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ed Jr. and Debbie of Austin; two daughters, Cindy Lacy and Ellen Barnett, both of Tyler; four granddaughters, Missy Lacy of Bellmead, Wash., Kelly Penney, Sarah Barnett, and Erin Argote, all of Tyler; three great-grandsons, Anthony and Noah Argote and Isaac Penney, all of Tyler; and his four-legged pal, Paco. Memorial services will be Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland. He was born Nov. 18, 1941, in Amarillo, Texas, and lived for many years in Amarillo and Panhandle, Texas. He was an attorney who moved his international practice to Zurich in 1985. In addition to the practice of law, he owned and operated the Texas Camera Co. in Amarillo for a number of years. Mr. Purvines was elected Carson County Attorney (Panhandle, Texas) in 1972, and served four years. He graduated from the Southern Methodist University Law School in 1969, and was on the editorial staff of the Southwestern Law Journal and the Championship Moot Court Team in 1971. A graduate of Amarillo High School, Purvines received his undergraduate college degree from the University of Texas in 1964. Purvines was selected after graduation to serve his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha, as an International Field Consultant. After military service, he associated with the Dallas Law Firm of Akin, Vial, Hamilton, Koch & Tubb. Three years later he returned to the Texas Panhandle where he engaged in the practice of law for the next 15 years, specializing in real estate and oil and gas law. Always interested in international matters, Purvines moved to Yelapa, Mexico, and became an Economic Development Consultant in Puerto Vallarta. Loren Purvines was a member of the Texas and American Bar Association and served two years the Texas District and County Attorneys' Association Board of Directors. He served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army Reserves attached to the Nike-Hercules Nuclear Missile Base from 1964-1970. He was preceded in death by his father, M.L. "Mike" Purvines; his mother, Bessie Greg Purvines of Amarillo; a brother-in-law, Harold V. O'Neal; and a nephew, Stephen Shawn O'Neal, of Panhandle. Survivors include his loving wife, Marianna Dreher Purvines of Schwerzenbach/Zurich, Switzerland; a sister, Norma Purvines O'Neal; nieces, Sharon O'Neal Loerwald and husband Jeffery and Mary O'Neal Mjolhus, all of Amarillo, Patrice O'Neal Shadid and husband Jay Douglas and Susan Garcia O'Neal, widow of Shawn O'Neal, all of Panhandle; eight great-nieces; four great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; and four great-great-nephews.
