"Bob" Callan R.C. "Bob" Callan, 79, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, Dr. Winfred Moore and Dr. Billie Hanks officiating. Private burial was held in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Callan was born July 4, 1926, in Shamrock to Maggie and Herbert Callan. He graduated from Shamrock High in 1943, where he was an All-State football player. He was a World War II Navy veteran, where he was selected as one of nine for the Navy Select Boxing Team. He attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, where he also played football and was able to continue his love of sports by coaching in Lefors. On July 10, 1948, he married the love of his life, Ginny Williams, from Wichita Falls. He owned and operated R.C. Callan Oil and Gas Inc., where he enjoyed his love of oil and gas investments for more than 50 years. In his earlier years, he worked for Humble Oil Co. and Shamrock Oil Co. before forming his own business. Mr. Callan loved his Lord, his family, his church and his friends with all his heart. His love of life could always be seen in his big smile and the joy that he displayed. He spent many years of active service in many civic and Christian organizations including the High Plains Baptist Hospital Board of Trustees, Gideons, Life Challenge Board, Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, International Evangelism Board, American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Panhandle Producers Royalty Owners Association, Independent Producers Association of America and West Texas Geological Association. He was a founding board member of Amarillo Young Life as well as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher for many years at First Baptist Church, Amarillo. He was a member of Amarillo Country Club and the Palo Duro Club. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cathy Vahrenkamp of Arlington; a son, Bob Callan Jr. of Edmond, Okla.; a brother, H.W. Callan of Seattle; seven grandchildren, Billy, Chad, Josh, Libby, Abby, Megan and Matt; and his best friend/dog, Muffy. Emmett was born March 7 at Northwest Texas Healthcare System, where he was diagnosed with Potter's Syndrome, a fatal kidney condition. He passed peacefully into eternity 10 hours after his birth. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Vurn Martin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Mrs. Burnett was born Aug. 23, 1907, to Will and Eliza William Simmons in Hill County. She attended the public schools of Corsicana. She confessed her faith in Christianity in 1927 at First Independent Baptist Church under the pastorage of the Rev. A.L. Moore. She came to Amarillo in 1934. She united with Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church of Amarillo. She worked for the Santa Fe Railway System for 23 years and retired. She was a member of Wonderful View Chapter 125, Order of the Eastern Star and Ladies Auxiliary at VFW 7869. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madie O'Neal and Eliza Nash. Survivors include a niece, Georgia Ethelmae Pettie Houston of Lubbock; a loving and devoted friend, Lester Moore; and a God sent caretaker, Cynthia A. Smith. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bernard F. O'Gorman Bernard F. O'Gorman, 82, of Amarillo died Thursday, March 9, 2006. Vigil services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church with Monsignor Joseph Tash officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. O'Gorman was born in Greeley, Neb. He entered the Army on Jan. 11, 1943, and served in the European Theater during World War II with the 347th Corps of Engineers. On June 18, 1944, he landed on Omaha Beach, 12 days after D-Day. He earned Four Bronze Stars for action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, including Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and France. He returned to the states on Nov. 22, 1945, on the Wakefield with 6,000 fellow troops. He married Dorothy Harney in Borger on March 6, 1948. He worked for 38 years at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for numerous years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy Lambright and husband, Larry, of Lubbock and Debbie Davenport and husband, David, of Canyon; three sisters, Betty Christian of Stinnett, Rosemary Gonzales of Hawthorne, Calif., and Bobbye Crowley of Lubbock; a brother, Richard O'Gorman of Stinnett; four grandchildren, Kristi Satterfield and husband, Bruce, of Lubbock, Marc Lambright and wife, Amy, of Shallowater, Matt Davenport and wife, Michelle, of Carthage and Cheslea Davenport of Canyon; and six great-grandchildren.
