Varner Stanley R. Varner, 64, of Amarillo died Friday, March 10, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Friona Cemetery in Friona with Pansey Dalton of Woodville Pentecostal Church officiating. Mr. Varner married Martha Lynn Dalton in 1971 in Friona. He lived most of his life in Friona and was a member of the Friona Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to bowl and bowled many games with his parents. He worked for John Allen Electric. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ray Lynn Varner and wife, Renee, of Amarillo; a daughter, Nicki Varner of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Krista Varner of Amarillo; a grandson, Dalton Varner of Amarillo; his mother, Stella Varner of Granbury; two brothers, Jimmy Varner and wife, Lindy, of Glendale Ariz., and Phillip Varner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Martha Shepard of Granbury and Gail Trevison and husband, Bob, of Fayetteville, N.C.; special friends, Mike and Martha Petschlete of Amarillo; and lots of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Winfred Moore, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. John Love, senior citizens pastor of Trinity Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Heket was born in McCurtain, Okla., on July 21, 1919, to Pearley and Alice Tankersley. She married Vern Kardell in 1937 in Salinas, Calif., and had one son, Richard "Dick" Kardell. During World War II, Vivian worked as a welder in the Kaiser Shipyard in Oakland, Calif. In 1946, she moved to Amarillo, where she met and married John Heket on June 19, 1952. Throughout her career, she ran several successful businesses including Vivian's Caf and several Mayfair Family Clothing Stores and Ladies' Shops. She also founded the Vivace School of Modeling. Vivian was often described as an "elegant" and "gracious" woman. She was honored as the Queen of Charm in 1957. Vivian loved helping and caring for people. She was a dedicated volunteer for Faith City Mission, BSA Hospital, and BSA Hospice. She taught Sunday school to elementary school girls, was WMU bereavement chairperson, and served on her church Soul Winning committee. She had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1956. More recently, she became a regular attendee of Trinity Fellowship. She maintained strong relationships with her friends at both churches. Vivian was a humble person and a wonderful Christian, who loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was a dedicated wife, a loving mother and a special Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She valued and loved the many friendships that she made during her lifetime. God blessed Vivian with a long and useful life in his service. Her purpose every day was to share his love with everyone she met. Her family would like to express its deep, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Taylor Carlisle and the wonderful staff at BSA Hospice. They also would like to thank all of her friends who cared for and supported her during this past year. You are all special people. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John Heket; her parents; a sister; and three brothers. Mr. Clemann was born Jan. 3, 1946, in Garden City, Kan., to John and Bettie Craig Clemann. He married Susan Jerden on April 10, 1971, in Garden City. Mr. Clemann graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1976. He was a Vietnam veteran. He worked at the Amarillo Police Department, for several electrical supply houses and Hastings. Ron had an unusual sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, working around the house, his children and their friends and was a member of the Harley Owners Group. Mrs. Thomas died peacefully at her home Sunday, March 12. Her youthful spirit and zest for life will be missed by her family and friends. Doris was born Nov. 15 in Oklahoma. She attended the University of Oklahoma and American University in Washington, D.C. She had been an Amarillo native since 1949, when she moved here with her husband, Dr. Edward F. Thomas. She organized the Symphony Guild and Symphony Belles and served as president of the newly established Symphony Guild. Doris helped organize the Art Alliance for the Amarillo Art Museum and worked on many of its committees. Her energy was also felt in the Medical Alliance, where Doris served as president locally and worked on a state level as state vice president. With a boundless energy and imagination she embraced life, her garden, friends and family. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Ann Thomas of Amarillo, Jane Thomas of Dallas and Susan Boddy of Wichita Falls; and two grandchildren, Christian and Thomas Boddy, both of Wichita Falls. A memorial service to celebrate the life of John Bechtol Welch will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Polk Street United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Welch was born March 11, 1950, in Columbus, Ga., to Jo Anne and Thomas Edison Welch. He graduated from Coronado High School in Lubbock, received a B.B.A. in accounting from Texas Tech University in 1972, and was a Certified Public Accountant. John joined Doshier, Pickens & Francis, P.C., Certified Public Accountants in Amarillo in 1977 and worked there until his death, serving as managing partner for many years. He was an active member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs, serving on many committees for those organizations and receiving recognition for service as Outstanding Committee Chairman. He married Deborah Dickerson in 1972 and moved to Amarillo in 1977. They have two children, Meagan Marie Welch and Meredith Leigh Welch. He was active in many civic organizations in Amarillo, serving on the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and as president and treasurer of the St. Andrew's Episcopal School Board. He served on the board and as president and treasurer of the Texas Panhandle Foundation of Planned Parenthood for many years and on the board of Planned Parenthood of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. He was recognized for his service on the Amarillo Parks and Recreation Commission and for his many years of service on the Citizens Budget Committee for United Way. John and Debbie had many great adventures, including a bicycling trip in the California Wine Country and a float trip through the Grand Canyon. John was a devoted father and loved being a "Volleyball Dad" - traveling all over the country with Meagan's and Meredith's volleyball teams. John was a lifelong Texas Tech Red Raider fan. He loved golf and tennis and valued his many hours with his golf and tennis buddies. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Meagan and Meredith, both of Amarillo; his mother, Jo Anne Anderson and stepfather, Bert Anderson of Brownsville; a sister, Jan Welch and her children Jasmine, Rudy and Sofia Welch-Ptak, all of Austin; his mother-in-law, Carrie Dell Dickerson of Silverton; a brother-in-law, Clinton Dickerson of Silverton; and a sister-in- law, Rhonda Hunter and husband, David, of Midland and their children Ross Hunter and wife, Jennifer, of Missouri City and Greg Hunter of Albuquerque, N.M. John is also survived by a host of friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Box 41081, Lubbock, TX 79409-1081. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dustin Wheeler Dustin Wheeler, 23, of Amarillo, died Friday, March 10, 2006. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Amarillo South Church. Additional services and burial will be in Hollis, Okla., by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mr. Wheeler was born Nov. 11, 1982, in Eureka, Calif., to a military family who traveled around the world. He touched hearts from California to Germany before the family settled down in Hollis. He lived in Hollis for six years, where he made many friends and was involved in sports. He was involved in basketball, track and football. Football became his passion. He moved to Colton, Wash., to live with his uncle, Bryan Wheeler and finished high school there. He enlisted in the Navy on Sept. 11, 2001. His basic training graduating class was the first group to graduate in all the military after the tragedy of 9/11. Their class was honored by Donald Rumsfeld. After his training, Dustin settled at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb. He married his childhood sweetheart, Stacy Browning, on Jan. 9, 2003, in Omaha. They were transferred to San Diego. It was there that their only child, Donnovan, was born in 2004. The birth of his son was Dustin's proudest moment of his life. After serving three years in the Navy, he was released and returned to Amarillo to begin college at West Texas A&M University. After one semester of college, he began to work as an attack helicopter mechanic at Bell Helicopter. Survivors include his wife; a son, Donnovan Wheeler of Amarillo; his parents, Sam and Pam Wheeler of Fort Hood; two brothers, Christopher Adam Wheeler of Weatherford, Okla., and Daniel Allan Wheeler of Fort Hood; his grandmother, Violet Jean Hillis of Hollis; a sister-in-law, Mary Beth Browning of Amarillo; many aunts, uncles and friends; and his closest and best friend, Justin Theadman. Rob Lindley, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Tulia, officiating. Military rites will be by DAV Chapter 26. Mr. Richardson was born May 27, 1937, in Wheeler. He was a veteran in the Army, serving from 1957 until 1962. Since 1996, Gene had been a circuit rider program coordinator for Driskill House, Inc. CJOP. He had previously worked as a chemical dependency counselor for MHMR Allen Treatment Center in Plainview, where he met his wife, Elizabeth Lopez. They married on Feb. 14, 1998, in Plainview. He had also worked in Panhandle, Pampa and Clarendon. He had been a Texas licensed drug alcohol counselor and was awarded clinical privileges by the Pavilion, Northwest Hospital in Amarillo. He conducted group therapy and worked with families of chemical abusers, mental health clients and criminal justice clients. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tulia and the National Association of Independent Clergies. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gina Blanton and husband, Jeff, of Dallas; two grandchildren, Jack Blanton and Celeste Blanton; a very close nephew, John Weidling; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Russ departed this life on Saturday, March 11, after a long and happy life. Letha was born June 14, 1913, in Cora, Okla., to Henry and Mary Steward. The family moved to Vega in the early 1930s. She was the oldest of six children and resided in Vega until her health forced her to leave her home in 2004. She cooked in several restaurants and owned and operated two of her own. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved the challenge of pie making. Playing dominos became one of her great hobbies. Letha married Spencer W. "Shorty" Russ on Feb. 18, 1934. In this union were born six children. She was a dear mother, grandmother and friend to all. The family expresses deep thanks to Beth, Rachel, Jim and Nancy Fox and the staff of Vista Care Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons at birth; a precious daughter, Fran; her parents; three brothers; and a sweet daughter-in-law.
