Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Bishop was born Oct. 9, 1941, in Maud, Okla. He worked as a manger at a grocery. He was a 20-year veteran of the Air Force and former employee of the Veterans Administration. He enjoyed working on cars. He was a loving man, kind and polite and cared about everyone around him. He was preceded in death by two granddaughters; a brother; and his parents. Laverne Chambers, 80, longtime Amarillo resident, died Monday, March 13, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Laurel Land Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Fort Worth. Mrs. Chambers was a 1944 graduate of Amarillo High School. She then went to work in the Pentagon in Washington during World War II. After the war she came back home and went to work for Amarillo National Bank, then she went to work for Robbins Lumber Co. She finished her career with the Potter County Clerk's office. She was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Crouch; two brothers, Leo Wilmeth and wife Mildred (whom Mrs. Chambers was named for) and C.E. Wilmeth and wife Elizabeth; and her parents, John and Gladys Wilmeth. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Kelly was born Nov. 28, 1913, in Caddo, Okla. She married R. Z. "Bill" Kelly on Sept. 12, 1931, in Clovis, N.M. They moved to Amarillo in the spring of 1941. Her family was her life and she devoted her life to making the family home a haven, not only to her family, but to all. She was employed with Boys Ranch headquarters in Amarillo for many years. She was a member of St. Laurence Cathedral. She was a longtime member of the Local Carpenters Union 665, Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; and her daughter, Billie Marie Brown. Georgia St. Mrs. Long was born in Amarillo, where she graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. She married Earl Long on May 21, 1949, in the Buchanan Street Methodist Church parsonage. She was employed by Plains Creamery and retired after many years. Mrs. Long had a passion and talent for designing and creating handmade items, especially her quilts. She made award winning quilts and was known nationally. She displayed her quilts in an "invitation only" quilting show in Paducah, Ky. Mrs. Long was a member of the Ogallala Quilters Society, Potter Extension Education Club, South Georgia Baptist Church, the Sonshiners Sunday School Class, and was very active in Bible study. She enjoyed supporting her church through her accounting abilities. Mrs. Roach was born in Carrie. She married Willie Roach in Childress on Sept. 16, 1935. Mrs. Roach was a homemaker and caregiver for her husband prior to his death in 1989. She loved children and gave many of her stuffed toys to needy children. She also loved to play bingo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Roach; a daughter, Mary Carnes in 1971; a son, Bill Roach in 2003; a granddaughter, Kay Lee in 1996; a great-granddaughter, Angel Elizabeth Vogle in 1992; eight brothers; and seven sisters. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Ray attended school in Borger. He married Norma Pearson in Stinnett on March 15, 1946. He served in World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. During WWII, he served as a guard for Gen. Eisenhower. He was past post-commander of the DAV and was a life member of the VFW. Mr. Ray was past-Sunday school superintendent at River Road Baptist Church and past-president of the Senior Citizens River Road. He was a carpenter and started building homes, developing several housing communities in Amarillo. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a member of River Road Baptist Church. She was a member of the National and Texas PTA. She taught preschool and kindergarten at Amarillo Christian School. She was an avid Bible teacher, and a longtime volunteer at BSA Hospital. She and her husband owned and operated North Amarillo Cleaners for 37 years. She was a member of North Amarillo Church of Christ. She married Joseph R. Shackelford in 1931 in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 13, 2000; and a son, Joel Shackelford in 1995 in Amarillo. Survivors include two daughters, Mae Ellen Morgan of Fayetteville, Ark., and Thelma Hall of North Little Rock, Ark.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; and two foster children, Vernon L. He married Lois Morris on Dec. 7, 1948, in Champaign, Ill. Mr. Peters was in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years, retiring as a chief master sergeant. He worked at Pantex as an inspector from 1970 until 1981. His hobby was rebuilding old cars.
