Mrs. Jones was born July 24, 1938, in Childress County and was raised in Estelline. She moved to Amarillo in 1955. She moved to Odessa in 1977 and returned to Amarillo in 1995. She owned and operated the "Big O" restaurant in Odessa and worked for Levi Strauss for more than 20 years in Amarillo. She was a Baptist. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Jones of Amarillo; three sons, Gary Adams and wife Sandy and Clay Adams, all of Amarillo, and Doug Adams of Odessa; a sister, Shirley Reece and husband Bennett of Jayton; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Opal Darlene Short Opal Darlene Short, 62, of Amarillo died Monday, March 13, 2006. Georgia St. Mrs. Long was born in Amarillo, where she graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949. She married Earl Long on May 21, 1949, in Buchanan Street Methodist Church parsonage. She was employed by Plains Creamery and retired after many years. Mrs. Long had a passion and talent for designing and creating handmade items, especially her quilts. She made award-winning quilts and was known nationally. She displayed her quilts in an "invitation only" quilting show in Paducah, Ky. Mrs. Long was a member of the Ogallala Quilters Society, Potter Extension Education Club, South Georgia Baptist Church and the Sonshiners Sunday School Class, and was very active in Bible study. She enjoyed supporting her church through her accounting abilities. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Ralston was born Jan. 11, 1957, in Amarillo to Don and Ramona Ralston. He lived in Amarillo all of his life. Mr. Ralston and his wife Joy were married for nine years. Mr. Ralston was a board member and member of the Praise and Worship Team at Miracle Covenant Church Healing Center in Amarillo. He was a "take charge kind of man," who loved his mother's beans and corn bread. He was a kind and loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Zybach Cemetery. Mrs. Peterman was born April 18, 1912, in Ducktown, Tenn. She married Harold B. Peterman on Nov. 24, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1990. For someone who had been blind for more than 50 years, she had great vision. Mrs. Peterman was a great joy to be around and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include a son, Gene Peterman of Amarillo; a daughter, Margie Onstott of Lodi, Calif.; a sister, Pauline Beeson of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She worked as a bookkeeper at Neely, Craig and Walton Insurance for 36 years. She was a member of First Nazarene Church. Mrs. Tibbs married Lee Tibbs on Feb. 7, 1985, in Amarillo. Mr. Chavira was born Nov. 6, 1963, in Chihuahua, Mexico. He attended many horse races and was a great singer. Mr. Cole was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Arney to Ray Cole and Laura Cox Cole. He was a farmer and rancher most of his life. He operated a grain elevator for 19 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Happy. He married Darlene Edmonds on Dec. 8, 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mrs. Ayres was born May 23, 1915, in Lipscomb County to Newton and Rose Flathers. She lived in Vega since 1949. She received her BS degree from West Texas Teachers College and taught at Bunker Hill, Gruver and Vega for more than 35 years. Mrs. Ayres was active in Senior Citizens and helped found Oldham County Library. She was a member of Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Lee J. He was co-owner of Patton & Patton Tank Company for many years. He was a resident of Pampa since 1955. He was a lifetime member of the Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF&AM, where he served as past master and past district deputy grand master. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, a member of the Lubbock Scottish Rite Consistory and the Khiva Shrine Temple of Amarillo. He was a member and deacon of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of the VFW. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Dale Jennings in 1995; two brothers, Raymond Vance Jennings and T.E. Jennings; and a sister, Doris Irene Emerson. Otis Harman TULIA - C. Otis Harman, 90, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Central Church of Christ with Bob Colson, lay minister, officiating, and the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor of First United Methodist Church, assisting. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Otis was born Dec. 4, 1915, in Industry, Kan., to Virgil and Esther Harman. The family moved to Plainview on March 17, 1917. On Sept. 28, 1917, a home place was purchased in Tulia, precipitating another move. Otis graduated from Tulia High School in 1933 and West Texas State College in Canyon in 1937 with a B.S. in math and minor in physics. He taught math in Plainview, Stratford, and Coleman while farming during the summer. On Aug. 2, 1939, he married Helen Edna Rahlfs. In 1942, he and Helen moved back to Tulia from Coleman. He taught mechanics at Amarillo Air Force Base while working on B17s and B29s. In 1943, he returned to farming. Helen died on July 14, 1999. On April 22, 2000, he married Mary Cleaver in Tulia. Otis served on numerous boards, Texas Cattle Feeders, Grain Sorghum Producers, Tulia Industrial Foundation, Tulia Day Nursery (first president and charter board member, he made many trips to Austin raising funds for the nursery), Zoning and Planning Commission (more than 25 years), Texas Highway Valuation Commission, President Tulia School Board, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Band Parents, Texas Wheat Producers Board (served 25 years), President Texas Wheat Producers (three years), Executive Board of National Wheat Foundation, Director of Grain Mutual Insurance Trust (13 years), 1974 Soil Conservation Man of the Year, 1986 Tulia Man of the Year, 2001 Tulia Pioneer Spirit and 2001 Wheat Man of the Year. Otis was part owner of the Tulia Feedlot and served on its board until his death. He was a member of Central Church of Christ and was the longest active member of the Tulia Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; four brothers; and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Mary Harman of Tulia; five daughters and sons-in- law, Betty and Tommy Womack of Tulia, Patsy and Jerry Merrill of Shreveport, La., Martha and Larry Goff of Emory, Mary Beth and Warren Hewitt of Gladstone, Mo., and Pam and Bryan Edwards of Tulia; two stepdaughters, Katha and Ronnie Pierce of Amarillo and Reba and Jim Cox of Brighton, Mich. He was a member of Wells Street Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II, stationed at the Pampa Army Airfield. He was preceded in death by five brothers; his twin Ralph Lee Mason who died when he was 6 months old, Troy Mason, R.D. Mason, Everett Mason and William E. (Dub) Mason. He was a 1939 graduate of Canadian High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. He married Betty Hale on Jan. 17, 1953, in Clovis, N.M. Revis owned and operated Massey Water Well Drilling Company. He was also a longtime faithful member of First Christian Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder until he was no longer able. He married Bettie Kathleen Starnes on April 25, 1943, in Tokio, which is near Plains. Survivors include his wife of Clovis; a son, Vic Carrol Fitzgerald of Zellwood, Fla.; a daughter, Sherri Kathleen Shipman of Muleshoe, Texas; three sisters, Winnell Loe and Linda Huddleston, both of Canyon, Texas, and Martha Palmer of Plains; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Kingswood United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Douglas Wayne Holland LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Douglas Wayne Holland, 48, died Sunday, March 12, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Community United Methodist Church in High Rolls Mountain Park, (Haynes Canyon Road). Mr. Holland was born March 11, 1958, in Borger, Texas, and grew up in Amarillo, Texas, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1976. After graduation he moved to Alamogordo, where he worked for NewTech at Holloman Air Force Base and attended NMSU receiving an associate in pre-business in 1991. Continuing his education in Las Cruces, he completed his bachelor of accountancy in 1996 and master's of business administration in 2000 as a Gold Key National Honor Society member. He then joined Advance System Technology at Tradoc at White Sands Missile Base and in January 2006 accepted the position of Senior ORSA for the Department of Defense. He married the love of his life, Roxanne Waskiewicz, on May 20, 2000. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing golf, bicycling, fishing, hunting and camping. He restored Ford Mustangs and treasured his 1965 convertible. He was an animal lover and enjoyed his dogs to their fullest. His gentle nature and kind heart will be forever missed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn Jean Morton in 1980. Survivors include his wife, Roxanne and daughter Ronni Curry; his father, Ken Holland and wife Peggy; two brothers, Joe Holland and Roy McCoy and wife Clara; two sisters, Brenda Holland and Terry Hegemeyer and husband Delton; an uncle, John Holland and wife Karen. His extended family includes his mother- in-law, Arlene Waskiewicz; sisters-in-law, Renee Waskiewicz, Raelynn Faulhaber and husband Bob; a nephew, Ryan Hegemeyer; and a niece, Ryann Faulhaber.
