Askew Jr., M.D. Wesley L. Askew Jr. M.D., 79, of Amarillo died Saturday, March 18, 2006. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Dr. Askew was born Feb. 2, 1927, to Margaret May Hatcher Askew and W.L. Askew Sr., M.D. in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by both parents. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, where he had served as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also served as a member of the personnel committee. Dr. Askew graduated from Amarillo High School in 1942. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry. His college education was interrupted 18 months having served in the Navy as a pharmacist mate. He was accepted at Johns Hopkins Medical School, where he trained to be a medical doctor, specializing in the field of OB/GYN. In 1951, he worked at Guys Hospital in London and served as a senior dresser under Sir Hedley Atkins. He graduated from Johns Hopkins in 1953, Phi Beta Kappa and was also board certified. He served as a resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital in OB/GYN. He then served three years at Vanderbilt University Hospital, where he became chief resident the third year. In 1957, he opened his private OB/GYN practice in Amarillo. He was in private practice 25 years, before retiring. He was on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellow of American College of Surgeons. Survivors include a cousin, Bill A. Askew and wife, Carolyn, of Amarillo; an aunt, Betty Hatcher of Oklahoma City; and many friends. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 1208 S. She married Jose Carrasco in Chihuahua in 1952. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Sena was born April 8, 1927, in Anton Chico, N.M., to Cirilio Ortega and Francisca Sisneros Ortega. She married the love of her life, Alberto L. Sena, on June 5, 1948. Ernestina was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was also an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was a proud member of the Guadalupana Organization. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eleverto Ortega and Juan Ortega; two sisters, Leonora Aragon and Madalena Ortega; and a special nephew, Louis Lucero.
