Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Central Church of Christ with Dan Bouchelle, minister, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. He was born March 27, 1984, in Amarillo and has lived here all his life. Michael attended Amarillo Christian Montessori School in the very early years of life, then Trinity Fellowship Christian and home school for his elementary years, Crockett Middle School and Amarillo High School. He was a gifted athlete, playing basketball and baseball on numerous teams throughout his school career. He also loved snow skiing and water skiing. He was a gifted musician, singer and songwriter. He was a member of Central Church of Christ all of his life. He graduated from the Amarillo College Fire Academy No. 17 in December 2005. He lived and worked at the Randall County Fire Department in their dorm program and was a recent employee of Tascosa Heat & Air. He was dearly loved by all those who knew him, a great son, brother and friend. Survivors include his parents, Mike and Emily Barber; two sisters, Maria Sell of Houston and Amanda Barber of Amarillo; a brother-in-law, David Sell and niece, Elizabeth of Houston; grandparents, Charles and Betty Barber of Amarillo and LaJuan Smith of Houston. Mrs. Barela was born in San Antonio and lived in El Paso before moving to Amarillo in 1978 where she lived the rest of her wonderful life. Mrs. Barela worked as a loan officer for Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union and as assistant manager at Canyon Finance. She married Bernardo Barela Sr. on May 12, 1972. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed greatly. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from BSA Hospice. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bernardo Barela Jr. and Jimmy Barela; a daughter, Brenda L. Bobby was born Sept. 6, 1935, to Henry Harrison and Mary Jenkins Baxter in Fort Worth. He moved to Amarillo in 1969. He was a machinist and retired from Amarillo Gear in 1998. Before his illness, Bobby was an avid bowler and was in many different leagues at Western Bowl and Eastridge Bowl. He was preceded in death by his wife, Troyce Baxter; an infant son, Bobby Gene Baxter II; his parents; two brothers, Martin Lynn Baxter and Edward Harrison Baxter; and a sister, Billy Rae Baxter. Mrs. Morrison loved her home, church and children and spoiled and loved her grandchildren. Her family remembers her as the best mom anyone could have. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Ricky Pfeil of Kingdom Keys Network officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery East. Pete was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Shamrock, one of 10 children to the Rev. and Mrs. Charlie Lawler. He was preceded in death by six of those siblings. Pete spent two years in the Marines during World War II. He worked several years for Mobil Oil. He installed gas pumps in their stations, covering the Texas Panhandle and parts of New Mexico. Through the years, he worked for several car dealerships in Amarillo, selling used cars. He was the top salesman on several occasions. He also drove cars for dealers to various locations until 2002. For a period of time, he was one of the owners of S&L Auto Supply. Pete was married to his wife, Thelma, for 57 years. She died in 1997. He married Bennie Pfeil in 2000. Mr. Lawler enjoyed life and got considerable pleasure in teasing folks. He was a great domino player, enjoyed ice cream anytime and was always ready to help people. He was generous, kind and considerate. Survivors include his wife, Bennie, of Amarillo; a son, Gary Lawler of Auburn, Ga.; two daughters, Jean Mitchell of Amarillo and Patsy Blades of Farmington, N.M.; a brother, Benny Lawler of Mustang, Okla.; and two sisters, Nora Crosby and Bertha Lawler, both of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Ricky Pfeil and Debra Shelton, both of Amarillo; and five stepgrandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Area Cody Drew Arnn DECATUR - Cody Drew Arnn, 19, died Friday, March 17, 2006. He was a graduate of Seaborne Military Academy. He worked as an inspector for APAC. He loved to hunt and fish. Clay DALHART - Robert S. Clay, 72, died Monday, March 20, 2006. Graveside memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Robert Shelby Clay was born Nov. 25, 1933, in Spur. He attended grade school, junior high and high school at Graham. He attended Texas A&M University one year. He served in the U. S. Navy on active duty from 1955 to 1957, Patrol Squadron II Naval Aviation. He served in the Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1961. He was released with an honorable discharge. He moved to Seymour in August 1959 to manage the Shamburger & Clark Lumber Co. He bought the business in 1963 and changed the name to Home Lumber CO. He sold the business in 1989 to enable him to purchase the Dalhart Texan newspaper. While in Seymour, he was very active in community events and clubs. He served as president of several organizations including Seymour Chamber of Commerce, Seymour Golf and Country Club, Seymour Lions Club, Seymour Rodeo & Reunion, Baylor County Little League, Baylor County Junior Livestock Show and the Baylor County Boy Scout chapter. He was secretary-treasurer of the Seymour Industrial Foundation and director of the Lumbermen's Association of Texas. He is a past master of the Seymour Masonic Lodge, AF&AM No. 604 and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine. He is also an Eagle Scout. Since his move to Dalhart, he served as president of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, past Master and current Secretary of the Rock Island Lodge, AF&AM No. 869 of Dalhart. He is presently a member of the Rotary Club. Clay was married to Susan Hogue Clay. He remained active in political and community events. He considered himself to be a patriotic American and Texan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Nelllie Goff Clay. He served in North Africa at Arzew and Oran. His unit was awarded two citations. Cleo was discharged after achieving the rank of seaman first class in 1945. He married Judy Jordan on Dec. 29, 1945, in Wellington. He was a member of Turkey Church of Christ and Shriners and was treasurer for the Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his wife. Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Waco to Floyd and Eula Thompson. He was raised in Dalhart. After serving in the Navy from 1952 to 1956, he moved to Dumas. He was involved in the trucking industry most of his life, having owned and operated a trucking company, ABT Transportation. He was also a classic car collector and an avid fan of drag car racing. Alvin touched the lives of all who knew him with his quick wit and kind nature. He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers. Mr. Rushmer was born on Sept. 5, 1923, in Amarillo, Texas, to John Robins Rushmer and Martha Pearl Wolking. He married Joyce Simms on Aug. 26, 1949, in Panhandle, Texas. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II as a private first class. He retired from West Texas State University, where he was employed as an instructor of photography and school photographer. His special interest was recording archives for the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, pictures of stock shows, various horse events and other special events. Bettye Coffee Tumlinson, born April 10, 1931, in Amarillo, Texas, was a retired teacher (Brookes and Horace Mann social studies), Special Projects Manager and Teacher Inservice Specialist for USD 259 and owner of Computer Training Resources. Bettye graduated from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, with a BA in sociology with honors and from Wichita State University with a M Ed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Pearl Coffee; a brother, Woodson; and two infant children, Charlotte and Arthur. Survivors include her husband, Dick; a son, Chuck Tumlinson and wife Judy of Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter, Lyne Tumlinson and husband Stuart Johnson of Lawrence; grandchildren, Aleksander McElroy, Stephen Johnson of Lawrence and Christa and Mark Tumlinson of Anaheim; and a sister, Ethel Couvillion and husband Jack of Shreveport, La.
