"Marcie" Bryant Claudia M. "Marcie" Bryant, 79, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 22, 2006. Memorial celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with Glen Walton of Bell Avenue Church of Christ officiating. Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Bryant lived in Amarillo more than 55 years. She married Mitchell M. Bryant in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was a supervisor in the insurance department for S.I.C. and also worked for North Seminole Church of Christ for many years, retiring in the late 1980s. She was a member of North Amarillo Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Becky Clayton of Amarillo; a son, Philip Bryant of Wills Point; two sisters, Modena Johnson of Kingsland and Lucille Reed of Austin; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. She was born Dec. 17, 1953, to Kathryn Scott, M.D., and Edward Scott, M.D., in Salt Lake City. Alison loved the outdoors, was an avid hiker and ski patroller and volunteered in mountain Search and Rescue. She graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute, and enjoyed successful careers as a professional photographer, art dealer and real estate agent. She was an accomplished pianist throughout her life and continued to play daily. Hughes St. Ronnie Lee Wilson was born Sept. 26, 1948, in Itasca. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army in 1969. He moved to Amarillo in 1981 and was a member of North Heights Church of Christ and the Soul Seekers Singing Group. He was employed with Tradewinds Turbine for 27 years. Hughes St. Thomas Crosby was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Panola County to John L. and Tennessee Allison Crosby. He had been a resident of Amarillo since 1989, coming here from Carthage. He was a retired farmer and also retired from the Independent School District as a custodian in Garden City, Kan. Survivor include his wife, Bessie Mae Crosby of Amarillo; four sons, John Crosby of Odessa, Alvin Crosby of Amarillo, Henry Crosby of Wichita, Kan., and Thomas Crosby of Fort Worth; a stepson, Darrell W. Dr. James Garten was born Sept. 3, 1943, to Guy William and Marian Garten in Medicine Lodge, Kan. He married Kathleen Bunn on Nov. 2, 1963, in Wichita, Kan. Dr. Garten began seminary at Oklahoma Missionary Baptist Institute & Seminary in Marlow, Okla., in 1968. He received his Doctorate of Bible Theology in 1995 at West Texas Baptist Institute & Seminary in Midland. Dr. Garten pastored churches in Oklahoma and Paris, Texas, before coming to Amarillo in 1976. He also pastored Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and Liberty Baptist Tabernacle in Amarillo. He was currently pastor of Pavillard Baptist Church, where he and his wife, Kathleen, have been for more than 18 years. This Sunday he would have finished his 18th year at Pavillard Baptist Church. Through his years in the ministry, his love for God's people and the church and his burden for lost souls was evident. His other loves were his grandkids, of whom he was so proud; he also enjoyed cruising in his '55 Chevy. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Brad Foster of Calvary Baptist Church of Dumas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born in Wichita, Kan., to Edward and Hulda Louise Smith. He attended Wheeler High School and married Chrystella Crafton on Jan. 31, 1938, in First Baptist Church in Wheeler. Mr. Smith was a journeyman electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 63 years and received a 60-year pin. He worked for SPS as an electrician for 15 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Smith and his wife were charter members of Lake Meredith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one sister; four brothers; and a grandson, Gary T. Hella. "God Bless You, Pap." Vinyard, 82, formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in Dallas. Masonic graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery by San Jacinto Masonic Lodge 1330. Bell St. Mr. Vinyard was born in Webb City, Okla., and attended Amarillo High School. He worked for the Amarillo Daily News for 26 years and then for the Dallas Morning News as a printing pressman until retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines for two years. He received a Purple Heart for being wounded in 1943. Mr. Vinyard was a 50-year Life Member of San Jacinto Lodge 1330 in Amarillo, 15-year member of Metropolitan Lodge 1182 and served as Past Master, was currently secretary and was past secretary of the Tannehill and Vickery Lodge. He was a 50-year member of the Shrine and was active in Shrine bowling, golfing and was a volunteer office worker. He was present secretary of the Dallas High Noon Club. He married Grace A. Smith on Nov. 10, 1946. Survivors include his wife; a son, Jack Vinyard Jr.; a daughter, Susan M. Bennie Woods was born Oct. 5, 1929. He married Jerry Banister on Nov. 23, 1950, in Canyon. He was a member of the Texas National Guard for eight years. He was also a member of West Texas SAMS, First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. Bennie retired from WTAMU. He was lovingly known as "Papa Bennie" by his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; a sister; and a nephew. He was born Aug. 12, 1916, in Rule. His parents were the Rev. J.F. Curry and Mattie Osborne Curry. He attended school in Munday and moved to Lubbock from Tahoka in 1967. On Feb. 11, 1944, he married Betty Longbrake in Brownfield. Prior to his retirement, Rogers was a printer who worked for various newspapers across the South Plains and was a former mayor of Plains. Rogers served our country as a corporal during World War II in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and very active in all aspects of church functions. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 10 brothers and sisters. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and rancher. He lived in Clarendon the past 10 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Clarendon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estal Louise, on Jan. 26, 1996. She graduated from Wheeler High School and also attended McMurry College. Mrs. Sabbe was a homemaker, a member of the American Legion auxiliary, Senior Citizens Organization and a member of First United Methodist Church in Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eli Sabbe in 1992; a sister; and seven brothers. He married Melba Dobson on Dec. 15, 1956, in Crosbyton. Mr. Hickman retired with the Texas Department of Transportation after 29 years of service, was a member of the Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849 AF&AM, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a member of the Hereford Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by three brothers. Mrs. Wagner worked 17 years as dietitian at the Parkview Hospital in Wheeler, retiring in 1985. She moved to Plainview nine years ago. Mrs. Wagner was a member of First Baptist Church of Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; three sisters; and a daughter, Betty Sternkopf. Smith MAYFIELD, OKLA. - Rodney E. Smith, 65, died Thursday, March 23, 2006.
