Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Stratford Cemetery in Stratford with Alan Williamson, chaplain and pastor of Park Place Central Retirement Community, officiating. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Popejoy was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Dalhart. She was raised in the Phillips and Borger area and lived in Amarillo since 1996. She was a member of St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Borger, a master judge of the American Iris Society and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Prentice Ballengee, and her second husband, Bill Popejoy. Survivors include a brother, Eugene Harrison of San Diego, and two nephews, Kent Harrison of Oceanside, Calif., and Dean Harrison of Grass Valley, Calif. She married Russell Boosa on Dec. 26, 1951, in Henryetta, Okla. They moved to Amarillo in 2001 after living in Tulsa, Okla., for more than 40 years. Wanda had worked as an engineering assistant for Public Service Co. of Oklahoma. She was a lifetime member of Good Sam RV owners Club. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Cindy Orcutt of Enfield, Conn., and Barbara of Oklahoma; a son, Russell Boosa and wife, Kathy, of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- Margie L. Wadyka and husband, Steve, of Washington, D.C., and Anne Elizabeth Weinberg and husband, Michele Cinelli, of Florence, Italy; and six grandchildren. Mr. Roberson was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Colombia, Tenn., to Walter and Idella Mary Roberson. He was reared and educated in Colombia. He served in the Navy as a camera operator during World War II and Korea. He was discharged in the early 1950s. He returned to Tennessee where he met Jean Stewart in Nashville. They were married Jan. 28, 1963, in Georgia. The Robersons moved to Amarillo in March 1963 and Jessy established Jess's Garage which he operated until he retired in 1994. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Lawrence, and a son, Phillip Robinson. Survivors include his wife; a son, Ronald Robinson and wife, Kathy, of Nashville, Tenn.; five daughters, Peggy Barnes and husband, Ralph, Diane Luna and husband, Everett, and Rosa Bryan and husband, Danny, all of Tennessee, Barbara Rasberry and husband, Donald, of Amarillo and Jessica Gillis and husband, Jubel, of Canyon; a brother, Earl Robinson and wife, Jane, of Geneva, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Local arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Laxton was born May 15, 1924, in Erick to Hezekiah and Della Luman. She married Doc Laxton in 1944 in Erick and resided in Sayre, Okla. After Doc Laxton's passing in 1992, she moved to Amarillo to be near her four children. She lived at Independence Village until her death. She enjoyed the staff and the many special friends she made there. The family wishes to express their appreciation of the professional care she received at Northwest Texas Hospital and especially the wonderful staff at SCCI/Triumph Healthcare. She was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings; her husband; and a grandson, Coly Garland Laxton. Irene enjoyed her sons-in-law and a very special, loving daughter-in-law, Cynthia Laxton, all of Amarillo. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 6, 1948, in Bexar County. He grew up in the San Antonio area, moving to Amarillo in 1988. He worked as a diesel mechanic for many years and most recently worked as shop foreman at Valley Proteins. He married Wendy Schermerhorn in 1991 in Amarillo. He was a member of River Road Baptist Church. He valued his work in the mission field and went on mission trips to Russia and Honduras. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Micah Joe Thompson in 2005. Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Nicole Ritter of Groom, and Kerra Meurer, Kristi Cox, Kala Schermerhorn and Lisa Thompson, all of Amarillo; three sons, John Charles Thompson of Amarillo, Roy Thompson of Oklahoma and Jerry Schermerhorn of Austin; four sisters; two brothers; and nine grandchildren. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the Army Air Corps in Europe. For many years, he was employed by Gilvin-Terrell Contractors and later by Fish Construction of Borger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn in April 1995. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Parker was born March 3, 1912, to J.E. and Rae Curyea Beagel in Dwight, Kan. She graduated from Alta Vista High School and attended a two-year business college. She married O.W. "Bud" Parker in Olathe, Kan., in 1941. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, board member of "Texas" and a hospital auxiliary Pink Lady. Irene volunteered at her church and with Boy and Girl Scouts. She was also an avid bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003; a brother; two sisters; and a granddaughter. Mr. Sims was born March 24, 1928, in Shreveport, La., to Edmond and Lottie Bell Sims. He married Emma Yarbrough in 1977 in Plainview. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Boomer was born on a farm between Claude and Goodnight to Samuel and Beulah Scott on March 25, 1915. She married Lynn Boomer on Sept. 5, 1936, in Claude. She was a lifelong resident of Claude. She was a homemaker. She was active in the community throughout her life and also was involved with many volunteer activities. She had been past worthy matron of the Claude Eastern Star and a member for well over 50 years. She was also a member of Methodist Unity Study Club, the Friday bridge group and library and cemetery boards and for years served on Meals on Wheels. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Claude for more than 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 14, 1972, and a great-grandchild, Jada Bates. Mr. Lain was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Panhandle. He was a resident of Panhandle for the past 56 years. He was a farmer and member of First Baptist Church in Panhandle. He was also a member of the 55-Plus Club, Love-In-Action Pantry and the Carson County Livestock Association and was a Panhandle Panther supporter. He was a former board member of Hoccheim Insurance. He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Lain in 1988; a son-in-law, Junior Sams in 1998; a daughter, Christy Sams in 1999; and a great-granddaughter, Mia Jewel Sams in 2004. "Jim" Douglas CLARENDON - James W. "Jim" Douglas, 77, died Thursday, March 23, 2006. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Douglas was born Feb. 10, 1929, to Clyde J. and Dorinda Tatum Douglas in Clarendon. Jim attended Clarendon schools, graduating from Clarendon High School and Clarendon College in 1946. He entered the University of Texas Pharmacy School in 1946 and graduated in 1949. Jim served in the Navy as a corpsman attached to the 1st Marine Division for four years. He was stationed in San Diego and Brimmerton, Wash., before being deployed to Korea from 1952 to 1953. Following his discharge from the Navy, Jim returned to his career as a pharmacist. On July 21, 1961, Jim married Mary Sanders in Irving. In November 1961, Jim and Mary opened Douglas Pharmacy, which they owned and operated for 11 years. Jim's long career in pharmaceuticals included time as president of PAS, Inc., and Family RX Systems. He was an active member of the Dallas County Pharmaceutical Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association and was an American College of Apothercaries' Fellow. Throughout his life, Jim sought to capture on the film the beauty of the places he and Mary traveled together. Among his favorite sites were Austin, Estes Park, Colo., San Diego, Hawaii and the Panhandle of Texas. Jim's photographs capture the uniqueness of every landscape and demonstrate his own appreciation for the natural beauty of his subjects. Much of Jim's free time was spent exploring the outdoors. A fly fisherman since childhood, Jim spent countless hours seeking out prime locations. Fly fishing, naturally a graceful, patient sport, spoke to Jim's personality and generosity of spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Clyde B. Douglas. Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years; their adored dog, Squeaky Marie; and a host of friends at home and abroad who mourn the loss of this extraordinary man. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Stratford. She married Leonard "Fat" Plunk on Sept. 10, 1939, in Hartley. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working on the family farm with her husband of 66 years. She loved her grandchildren and loved to travel. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her parents, J.R. and Panetha Marshall. Mrs. Torres was born Nov. 30, 1931, in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was a resident of the Stratford and Texhoma area for more than 40 years. She married Jose Torres on Nov. 5, 1949, in Meoqui, Chihuahua. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratford. She was preceded in death by a brother, Salomon Garcia, and a sister, Berthita G. Martinez.
